Bible verses to pray over your home

I believe that prayer is a vital part of a successful marriage because you are inviting Christ into your marriage to shape and mold one another’s character as He desires.

I personally believe you can bring positivity and spiritual nourishment into your husband’s life through prayer. The duty of a Christian wife is to pray for your husband’s integrity, strengths, weaknesses, spiritual walk, and work ethic for every aspect of His life. My heartfelt desire is that my husband would feel covered in prayer with intentionality and meaning through scripture.

After reading Jennifer Smith’s novel The Unveiled Wife, here are a few verses that I have prayed over my husband during our first month of marriage:

Table of contents

1. That he lives in accordance with God’s plan for his life (Ephesians 4:1-2)

“I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love.” (NKJV)

2. That the Lord would bless his work (Proverbs 22:29)

“Do you see a man who excels in his work?

He will stand before kings; He will not stand before unknown men.” (NKJV)

3. That he would lean on Christ in his trials (Psalm 46:1)

“God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.” (NKJV)

4. His integrity (Proverbs 11:3)

“The integrity of the upright will guide them,
But the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them.” (NKJV)

5. His temptations (1 Corinthians 10:13)

“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God isfaithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” (NKJV)

6. That he would have a giving heart (Proverbs 28:27)

“He who gives to the poor will not lack,
But he who hides his eyes will have many curses.” (NKJV)

7. For discernment in handling finances (Luke 16:13)

“No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” (NKJV)

8. That he would trust in God’s plan, not his own (Jeremiah 29:11)

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (NKJV)

9. That he would give everything to the Lord in Prayer (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing.” (NKJV)

10. That he would seek wisdom (James 1:5)

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” (NKJV)

11. That God would give him discernment (Philippians 1:9-10)

“And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ.” (NKJV)

12. That the Lord would teach him how to be a good husband & likewise me a good wife (Ephesians 5:22-33)

“Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.” (NKJV)

13. That he would submit his fears to God (Psalm 118:6)

“The Lord is on my side;

I will not fear. What can man do to me?” (NKJV)

14. That he would fully grasp his purpose in Christ (Romans 8:28)

16. For strength (Psalm 28:7)

“The Lord is my strength and my shield;

My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices,And with my song I will praise Him.” (NKJV)

17. That he would be surrounded by people who bring him up (Proverbs 13:20)

22. That he would be quick to forgive (Ephesians 4:32)

“And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.” (NKJV)

23. His Heart (Proverbs 4:23)

“Keep your heart with all diligence,
For out of it spring the issues of life.” (NKJV)

24. His Future (Psalm 105: 42-45)

“For He remembered His holy promise,

And Abraham His servant. He brought out His people with joy,His chosen ones with gladness. He gave them the lands of the Gentiles,And they inherited the labor of the nations,That they might observe His statutesAnd keep His laws. Praise the Lord!” (NKJV)

25. That he would continue to lead and that God would be glorified in our marriage (Ephesians 5:25-29)

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.” (NKJV)

The house is coming along very well friends. Thanks for all the love notes you guys have been sending us via Instagram and Facebook! We are very excited and I’m sure thankful to be sharing this journey with you all!

We had this idea to write bible verses on the studs of our new build long before we broke ground. But after talking to friends and family and YOU, the idea kept coming up over and over. So I knew it was something that we had to do.

We had some great ones in mind that have been special to our family and we also picked up a few here.  We also let the kids write some on the walls as well because we really wanted them to be apart of the experience and they LOVED it. They kept wanting to write more and more!! Plus when we visit the house, they immediately go the spot were they wrote “their” verse. It’s so sweet and I’m praying that it will be one of those memories that really STICK. Moving can be a stressful time. It sure has been for us. Doing this has really allowed our family to focus on the blessing and be humbled by the gift that he is giving us. We are in AWE to be here you guys. It’s a dream come true and we pray that we are good stewards of all that he has given us.

Bible Verses to Bless Your Home

But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:15

I love this. Reggie and I always say it in away that cracks us up. We’re goofy like that. ” Listen…. ya’ll can do what you want, worship all the gods you want, but as for me and MY house, we gonna serve the LORDDDDDD! Bye.”  haha. We had Livy girl and her super cute kinder handwriting write this one on the walls in the kitchen. Stand firm in your faith friends. Serve the Lord and don’t be ashamed to do so!

Proverbs 24:3-4 “By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.”

I don’t know if you guys remember but I shared this verse on Instagram a few years ago. It’s still one our our go to verses as we raise our family. We continue to seek his word when it comes to raising our kids and as we make decisions that we know will change the course of our life. This verse to us is about building a strong foundation for our LIFE, not just our home. We all know the story about building your house on a rock.“Everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock.”

Building a house can be compared to building a life. Making sure the foundation is solid as concrete. Laid perfectly with little or no cracks but with a enough tension so that the house settles well over the years.  Then comes come the electric, installation, drywall and the roof. All the details that build walls of understanding and knowledge. Precious and pleasant riches can be anything from the coziness you create, your grandmothers dishes, and of course the precious children you raise.

God says the storms will come. Life will hit you. It maybe health, your kids, your marriage or any other relationship you have. The storms will come. But the house that is built on a rock will stand. Praying that we continue to seek that strong foundation for our family.

2 Chronicles 7:15-16 “Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place. For now I have chosen and consecrated this house that my name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will be there for all time.”

This verse comes from 2 Chronicles and God is speaking to Solomon after he asks God to bless the temple that he built in His name. This is God’s promise to him and answer to his prayer. I want my home to be a place where God dwells. Where his eyes and heart will be for all time!! It reminds me of the song ” Holy Spirit you are welcomed here, come flood this place and fill the atmosphere.” We know that God dwells where ever he wants but the act of humbling asking him to dwell in our home? Yes. Holy Spirt make yourself know in the walls of my home and heart!

1 Samuel 25:6 “And thus you shall greet him: ‘Peace be to you, and peace be to your house, and peace be to all that you have.”

I don’t know about you but I want a peaceful house and I know I can’t achieve that by myself. This a simple blessing prayer to say as you enter any home. This verse is found in 1 Samuel as a blessing and greeting on the household of Nabal before he completely disrespects Davids men:0) We had our little Bear write this one by the front door. Love.

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” Matthew 6:26

Basically this reminds us not to worry. Look at the birds and the flowers. All the things our God created. They don’t spend a single day worried about anything because God is taking care of them. But think about this, they aren’t even his most precious creation, WE ARE!! SO shouldn’t we believe that GOD will take care of us even more! Our pastor Greg who passed away last year, always used this verse. Reggie and I knew we had to have this one on the wall right above the huge sliding doors that look into the backyard. Look at the birds…… I love this shot of my hubby and my oldest using each other to make it happen:0)

Here are some other ones that we added….

Hope that you are able to do this if and when you build your new home or even when you remodel! It’s never a bad idea to have to word of God covering your home!

We still have time to add more! Give me one and I will try to make it happen!

If you didn’t have time to write scriptures on your wall or for someone else these scripture decor options make great gifts! We have a few in our home and they are great reminders!

bible verses to pray over your home

When we bought this house last year, before we even moved in, we very consciously decided that we’d ask our best friends to come over the night we took possession of the house to assist us in praying through it.

We had very generally prayed through some of our past houses (since Dean and I both became Christians in 2002) and we’ve always been fond of Bible verses as wall art. But this time, we just felt we needed to do a bit more.

So one night last November, four of us gathered in our new-to-us and entirely empty house and prayed through each and every room, starting in the basement furnace room and working our way all the way through each floor until each and every room had been bathed in prayer. Our friends spoke up if they felt something needed to be addressed in a particular space or if they felt a certain room needed a bit of extra prayer. We prayed over bedrooms and bathrooms and stairwells. Dean anointed each of the outer walls with oil and we dedicated our home to our God.

I have no doubt that that has so very much to do with the constant comments we get from friends and family that our home feels very serene and peaceful.

3 Bible verses to pray over your home

bible verses to pray over your home

Your home may not be empty or even new to you. You may not have a best friend who’s a prayer pastor. But you can most certainly pray through your home, renouncing anything not of God and dedicating (or rededicating) it to Him. Your prayers don’t have to be eloquent or complicated. God will understand your simple prayers and the heart behind them.

Here are 3 verses to give you a head start praying over and through your home.

Welcome God into your home:

2 Chronicles 7:15-16 “Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place. For now I have chosen and consecrated this house that my name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will be there for all time.”

Pray that God keeps your home safe:

Numbers 6:24-26 “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.”

May your home be peaceful:

Luke 10:5 “Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house!’”

Today’s Takeaway:

Pray these verses through your home. Ask God to protect your home, to shut down and shut out anything that’s not of Him. Thank Him for your home.

Prayer and blessing are incredibly powerful ways to say that your home belongs to God and that you’ve dedicated that space to Him.

Also, if you have trouble remembering and getting into your Bible regularly try a Bible Journal. I’m a very visual person by nature. So one of the ways that I remember Bible verses is to use my Bible Journal. When I put pen/marker to the page, I can much better visualize the Bible verses. 🙂

When our children were babies, they depended us on to do everything for them. However, as they grow up, we must continually release them to the Lord. It’s not always easy and we may overstep our boundaries to do more than what we should. Yet when we have released them into God’s hands—we are free to pray over them in faith—trusting in God to do His great work in their lives. Begin today to pray these 8 great Bible verses over your children or grandchildren regardless of their ages:

Lord, I pray that you bless and keep them throughout the day

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace” (Numbers 6:24-26).

This was the prayer of Moses over the children of Israel and it’s still as necessary to pray over our children in these last and evil days. The blessings of the Lord are much greater than financial wealth; rather the blessings of joy, peace, and love along with the knowledge of God has tremendous pay offs for their future.

Lord, I pray that your light will shine through them

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

The light of Christ within our children can’t be put under a bushel and hidden away. We want our children to stand unashamed of the Lord in the darkness. Their words and actions will reveal the light within them, draw others to Christ, and establish them in the community of believers.

Lord, I pray that you would give them a spirit of power, love, and sound mind

“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline” (2 Timothy 1:7).

In times of fear, our children have to be ready to stand in power, love, and a sound mind under the influence of the Holy Spirit. Their faith in God will be strengthened when they overcome the spirit of fear. No matter their age, they will find themselves growing into strong warriors for Christ.

Praying for our children with Bible verses can strengthen our faith …

Lord, I pray that they will not be anxious about anything

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Philippians 4:6).

There are tremendous number of children who are filled with worries—from their family problems to the issues of crime and unrest in the world. We must pray that they will grow in their trust in God to keep them and prepare them for the future. Teaching our children to pray to God regularly with their requests—both small and great—helps them build a stronger faith in God.

Lord, I pray that they will know that You are with them

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6).

Every believer at one time or another will feel like God has abandoned them. Yet we learn to overcome that feeling as we grow in our trust in His faithfulness and promise to never leave us. We must train our children to look to the Lord even before they look to us. In this way, they will grow their confidence in God’s presence whether they sense Him or not.

Lord, I pray that they will grow in the grace and knowledge of God

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen” (2 Peter 3:18).

Our children’s awareness of God’s grace and knowledge is rooted in how acquainted they are with the Bible. The less they know, the less they will grow. Yet the more they know, meditate, and apply God’s word in their everyday lives—they will grow spiritually and become greater influencers over those God has placed around them.

Lord, I pray that they will stand for what is right

“Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place” (Ephesians 6:14).

Peer pressure on every level is hard. The children who choose the narrow and straight way of eternal life will feel the angst of those who follow the broad way to destruction. We can’t always be there to nudge them in the right direction, but we can pray for their strength in the day of temptation to choose what is right.

Lord, I pray that they will know Jesus Christ more intimately

“I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead” (Philippians 3:10-11).

Our children can know about our relationship with Jesus without ever having ownership of this knowledge for themselves. We must pray and be sensitive to the leading of the Spirit to guide them to know Jesus for themselves. When given the right promptings, they will eventually learn to recognize His voice speaking to their hearts.

Lord, I pray…

Are you praying for your children every day? As parents and grandparents, we can’t afford to give way to Satan by neglecting this great privilege. Praying for our children with Bible verses can strengthen our faith especially if we don’t readily see the spiritual fruit. We lay the foundation of living what we believe and praying with all earnest that our children will walk in faith to accomplish great things for the Lord.
