Here are Four Prayers for Healing you can use today to speak life and hope into your situation.

A Prayer for Personal Healing

God, you know me so well. You created me. You know the number of hairs on my head, and you even know the thoughts conceived in my heart before I ever vocalize them. You’ve told us to come to you and ask for every need of life. You are Jehovah-Rapha, the God who heals, and you have the final word on my destiny, the number of years I’ll live and serve you on earth.

I’m coming to you today as your child, longing to hear from you and asking for your divine healing. There’s so much I don’t understand about life. But I do know that with one touch, one word, you can make me whole. Please forgive me of my sins, cleanse me of my unrighteousness, and begin your healing from the inside out.

I don’t always know what your will is Lord, especially in times like now, when I desperately seek your face. I offer you no promises, no bargains, no deals to exchange for my health. I simply bow my heart before you to tell you the desire of my heart: that I want to spend as many years as I can loving you here, loving others, and wanting to become more like you. However you choose to accomplish that is up to you—and okay with me. If you use doctors to provide healing, give them wisdom to know what to do. Regardless of how you accomplish it, the healing you give is always miraculous. And you deserve all the praise.

I absolutely believe you have the power to heal. You demonstrated that on earth, and you still heal in miraculous ways today. Even when my faith is weak, you say it is enough, and my love for you is strong. And I know you already hold my heart and life in your hands. It’s up to you. If I can bring you more glory through healing, then that’s what I ask for. That’s what I desire.

But if your answer is no, or not now, I know that your grace is sufficient for me. Ultimately, I want your will to be my will. I look forward to spending an eternity with you. But Lord, if you have planned still more for me to do here on this earth, I not only need and want your physical healing, Lord, but a thorough, deep-down cleansing and strengthening—a whole-hearted renewal of all that I am. Because all that I am is yours. Use this trial to strengthen me from a “what-if” faith to a “no-matter-what” faith. And no matter what, I choose to honor you and give you glory.
In Jesus’s name, Amen.

How to Pray for Healing – Max Lucado

A Short Prayer for Healing for Friends

Lord, your Word speaks promises of healing and restoration and I thank you for the miracles you still perform today. Today I claim those promises over my friend. I believe in the healing power of faith and prayer and I ask you to begin your mighty work in the life of my friend. Please reach down and surround my friend with supernatural peace and strength and give her the faith to believe that all things are possible for you. Protect her from Satan’s lies and discouragement and let her miraculous healing begin. Amen.

A Prayer for Healing and Grace

Dear God,
We confess our need for you today. We need your healing and your grace. We need hope restored. We need to be reminded that you work on behalf of those you love, constantly, powerfully, completely. Forgive us for trying to fix our situations all on our own. Forgive us for running all different directions and spinning our wheels to find help, when true help and healing must be found first in You. Forgive us for forgetting how much we need you, above everyone and everything else. We come to you and bring you the places we are hurting. You see where no one else is able to fully see or understand. You know the pain we’ve carried. The burdens. The cares. You know where we need to be set free. We ask for your healing and grace to cover every broken place. Every wound. Every heartache. Thank you that you are Able to do far more than we could ever imagine. Thank you for your Mighty Power that acts on behalf of your children. We reach out to you, and know that you are restoring and redeeming every place of difficulty, every battle, for your greater glory. Thank you that you will never waste our pain and suffering. We love you. We need you today.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen

A Prayer for Healing Sick Family and Friends

Lord Jesus, thank you that you love . I know that you hate what their illness is doing to them/me. I ask that you would heal this disease, that you would have compassion and bring healing from all sickness.

Your word says in Psalm 107:19-20 that when we call out to you the Eternal one you will give the order, heal and rescue us from certain death. In the Bible, I have read of miraculous healing and I believe that you still heal the same way today. I believe that there is no illness you cannot heal after all the bible tells of you raising people from the dead so I ask for your healing in this situation.

I also know from my experience of life on earth that not everyone is healed. If that happens here than keep my heart soft towards you, help me to understand your plan and help me to be excited about heaven.

God, I thank you that belongs to you and that you are in control of everything that happens from our first breath to our last sigh.

O Father God, you have been my help in ages past and you are my hope for the years to come. You have loved me all the days of my life. I lean and depend upon you for I know that my life and times are in your hands alone.

As you have been faithful to me in the past, I know that you will continue to be in the future. For you are a God who never changes; I can always count on you to remain the same.

Forgive me for all of my sin, iniquity, and transgression. Wash me and I shall be made clean.

I come to you now asking you to heal me. I know that nothing is too hard for you. No sickness or disease can stand in your presence, It does not matter what report the doctors may have given, everything is under your control. You have the final say. You have promised to never leave or forsake me, therefore I’m going to fix and focus my eyes upon you and you alone. I’m not going to look to the left or the right. All of my help comes from you who made Heaven and Earth.

I know that your word is powerful and that it will never return unto you void. It will accomplish all that you have assigned it to do. Your word never fails. Send your word and heal me, O God. You are my refuge and strength. You are a very present help in my time of trouble. I cleave unto you my Lord. I know that you will do something for me because I trust in you. All my hope is in you. You are all that I have and you are all that I need. I am complete in you. It is you who makes me whole.

I thank you for your tender mercies that are new every morning. Thank you for this great love that you have lavished upon me. I thank you that I am your child and you are my loving Father. I thank you for hearing my prayer and for healing my body. In the mighty name of Jesus I offer this prayer, Amen.

Look down in pity and mercy on all that are suffering with the illness of dementia. Father I ask Your protection on those that are suffering with this debilitating mental disease and pray that You will minister to the emotional and spiritual of those we love, with all forms of this mental illness.

Thank You Father that in the power of Your Holy Spirit, You can touch the heart of those that have lost the memories of those that are their nearest and dearest. Comfort those that feel excluded from a loved one with dementia, in the knowledge that Your grace is sufficient.

Times of Healing and Spiritual Renewal

Loving Father, I know that You often halt us in our tracks and remove us from the business of life, through an illness or a time of ill-health – so that we are forced take our eyes off the hurly-burly of life, and lie on an enforced bed of sickness – in order to rediscover what are our true priorities are in life.

Father, I know that I have not spent quality time with You, as I have allowed the daily duties of life and less-important issues to crowd out my special time alone in Your presence.

Forgive me I pray. I want to use this time of ill-health as an opportunity to get closer to You. Lead me and guide me in this time of illness – and may it become a time of spiritual as well as a period of physical rest.

Heal me Father I pray, not only in my body but also in my relationship with You,

Thank you,

“you are being renewed in the spirit of your minds;”

(Ephesians 4:23)

This evening we lift in prayer all those who are sick in body and mind, those who care for them, and all of us who love them. Let us begin by singing “Be Not Afraid” from the Gather Hymnal.

Hymn: “Be Not Afraid” – Gather Hymnal #596

Opening Prayer: A Meditation by Cardinal Newman

God has created me to do Him some definite service. He has committed some work to me which He has not committed to another. I have my mission.

I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons. He has not created me for nothing: I shall be an angel of peace.

Whatever, wherever I am, I cannot be thrown away. If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve Him: if I am in sorrow, my sorrow may serve Him. He does nothing in vain. He knows what He is about.

Therefore I will trust Him.

Reading 1: Psalm 91

Hymn: On Eagles’ Wings, Gather Hymnal #593

Reading 2: Gospel of St. Mark, Chapter 10, verses 44-52

Guided Meditation

“What do You Want Me to Do for You?”

Writing of Petitions

Petitions are brought forward and placed in the basket on the table.
During this time, play music from Michael Vaughan’s CD “Songs of Comfort” (or use a similar source).

Pause for a few minutes while participants share the stories of their petitions with those around them.

Prayer for the Sick

God of hope and healing,
Be with those whose bodies
burn with fever,
rage with pain,
struggle for breath,
cry out for limbs that used to be,
or crave addictive substances.

Be with those whose minds and emotions
face the wait of a diagnosis,
wrestle with the choices for treatment,
adapt to a life altered by chronic illness,
recover from abuse,
or push against the encroaching clouds of dementia.

Be with those whose spirits
are exhausted by the quest for health
doubt the existence of love
question the fairness of life
or stare into the face of death.

Cool the fever,
bring balm to the pain,
ease the fight for air,
adapt the body for new ways to move,
and calm the cravings.
Ease anxiety and fear.
Build trust in your everlasting love and care.
God of all, hear our prayer.

Response: Amen

Prayer for the Caregiver

(Those on the left side read one section; those on the right side read the next.)

God of comfort and strength,
Be with those
whose backs ache with the weight of lifting,
whose hands are raw from the constant washing,
whose eyes close frequently from lack of sleep,
and whose bodies feel broken and weary.

Be with those
whose anxiety cannot face one more “what if”
whose thoughts do not dare go beyond the next moment
whose tears have flowed until there are no more
whose patience has worn too thin
and whose minds and emotions have become fragile.

Be with those whose spirits
are exhausted by the demands of caring for the sick
doubt the existence of love
question the fairness of life
or stare into the reality of losing a loved one to death.

Soothe the body and ease the pain.
Calm the anxiety and fear.
Build trust in your everlasting presence and love.
God of all, hear our prayer.
All: Amen.

Prayer for the Healing of Survivors of Abuse

God of endless love,
Ever caring, ever strong
Always present, always just:
You gave us your only Son
To save us by the blood of His cross

Gentle Jesus, shepherd of peace
Join to your own suffering
The pain of all who have been hurt
In body, mind and spirit
By those who betrayed the trust placed in them.

Hear our cries as we agonize
Over the harm done to our brothers and sisters
Breathe wisdom into our prayers,
Soothe restless hearts with hope,
Steady shaken spirits with faith
Show us the way to justice and wholeness
Enlightened by truth and enfolded in your mercy.

Response: Amen

Blessing: The Serenity Prayer – Reinhold Niebuhr

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.

Invocation: from “Benedictus” by John O’Donohue

May all that is unforgiven in you be released.
May your fears yield their deepest tranquilities?
May all that is unlived in you blossom into a future
Graced with love.

Response: Amen
