Prayer for enemies in the workplace

Hi folks. I want to talk about how the enemy will attack us in the workplace. Satan is an opportunist. If he gets the chance he will use coworkers and/or customers to lash out at you. Have you ever had a coworker who was overly hostile towards you for no real reason? Sometimes it’s just a case of a bad attitude but sometimes it’s not. Sometimes it’s a demon using that individual to get at you. Have you ever had a boss who seemed to have it in for you even though you know for a fact that you are doing a good job? If you’re a Christian and your boss is not there’s a good chance the man is being used as a puppet. The first thing to keep in mind is that your enemy isn’t the puppet it’s the evil thing pulling the strings.

There are two strategies that I have found that work well to combat this situation. The first is prayer. A simple prayer asking Jesus to remove anything that is allowing the enemy to work against you in the workplace is very effective. Word it based on your situation. The Lord doesn’t leave His soldiers hanging out to dry. The second strategy is basic spiritual warfare using the authority of the Lord’s name. In the mornings you can take a moment when all parties involved are at the workplace, that is when the puppet is in the building. Step off someplace where no one else can hear you and take authority over the demons in the name of Jesus and command them to stay out of your business in the workplace. Command them to keep their noses out of anything that you are involved in. You can say it quietly but you must say it out loud so the demons can hear it. They will still hear it if you say it quietly, demons have great hearing. This is also very effective.
I once was stuck working with a man who was under demonic oppression. The demons used him at every opportunity. I’m an HVAC service tech. A few years ago I was working for a local company installing heat pumps and gas furnaces. My helper left the company and had to be replaced. The man that was hired to be my new helper turned out to have some serious doors open which the enemy used to lash out at me. The guy was a professing Christian and I am sure he really was a believer. However he was like a lot of Christians. He didn’t know about demons and how they work behind the scenes to create problems for Christians. The man was a Lumbee indian and he actively took part in tribal religious activities. He didn’t see this as being in conflict with the worship of the Lord Jesus and had no idea that this was a demonic door. I tactfully tried to get at the issue a few times but was unsuccessful. I actually liked the guy but the enemy had their claws in Him. The Lord told me through the Holy Spirit what was going on so that I could deal with it appropriately. There were several times when the man made an effort to stab me in the back and later would be talking to me as if it had never happened. All of his thoughts were not his own including the one causing his hostility towards me. When someone is under demonic oppression and the enemy is implanting thoughts and urges into a person’s mind those thoughts don’t register clearly in the persons memory. They will not realize at the time that the thoughts are not their own and will usually act on them. But later the demonic implanted thoughts will not be clear in the victims memory. Not like their own thoughts will be. The man didn’t have a clear memory of having caused me any headaches. Thanks to discernment of the spirit I knew this and dealt with the man accordingly. I could actually tell when the enemy was manipulating him. Once the Holy Spirit made me aware of what was up I began to take the defensive. Every morning when I said my morning prayer I would make a point to ask the Lord Jesus to remove anything that would allow the enemy to use my co workers against me. When I arrived at the workplace and once my helper was there I would take authority over the demons in the name of Jesus and command them to stay out of my business in the workplace. I did this in the parking lot where other people wouldn’t hear but the demons would. I could then actually get the job done while working with the man and not have issues. I did this for several months every day. I wanted very much to sit down with the man and talk about what was going on but until a victim realizes on their own, what’s going on and wants to break out, all you can do is pray for them. The guy finally got himself fired. I did my best to do right by the man and never told the boss he was a problem. It’s not as if I could say to the boss ‘hey it’s not really his fault he’s under demonic oppression’.
I hope this article is useful to someone. Just remember the person isn’t your enemy, the demon manipulating them is.

Parker Palmer was right when he defined community as “that place where the person you least like is.” What is true for communities in general seems especially true in the workplace.

Just about everyone has someone they work with who drives them nuts. Maybe it is a coworker in a similar position. Harder still when the crazy-making person is a boss or someone “higher up”. These are the folks who can, for a whole variety of reasons, make an otherwise good work day miserable.

In some communities (like church), you can at least make efforts to avoid the people who get on your nerves. But at work it’s harder. Work tends to happen almost every day and unlike volunteer organizations, our assignments can force steady interaction with those we would prefer to avoid. Then we carry them with us in our down time, wasting precious energy on pretend arguments with them in our cars, showers and beds. Nothing makes for a work-weary soul more than a day with a “workplace enemy”.

The Hardest of Teachings

Carmelite nun, Therese de Lisieux, knew much about getting along with others. She writes,

One sister attracts you; another sister – well, you’d go a good long way round to avoid meeting her. Without knowing it, she is your persecuttress… Her behavior to be sure, suggests that she isn’t too fond of me; yes, but ‘What credit is it to you if you love those who love you?’ (from Autobiography of a Saint)

She refers to one of Jesus’ difficult teachings about loving our enemies. On a challenging scale, I’d put this one right up there with trusting God more than money. Just loving your friends is no big deal – anyone can do that, he told his disciples. I’m calling you to love even those people who persecute you. To pray for those who treat you poorly, to do good to those who hate you. (Luke 6)

No problem Jesus. Piece of cake.

Small Steps

Assuming you were going to try to love your workplace nemesis, I have a few thoughts.

I have always been helped by the distinction between liking and loving. Liking means enjoying being with someone, hanging out with them, sharing interests. That’s hard to imagine when thinking about my enemies.

Loving on the other hand has more to do with respecting, valuing, and treating people with justice and mercy. Loving means trusting that, no matter how outrageous the behavior, this person too carries the image of God. It may involve less time around the water cooler but more prayer. When all is said and done, it is possible to treat someone fairly and respectfully, without liking them.

Loving my enemy at work also does not mean being a doormat. Loving may mean confronting or challenging untruths and inappropriate behavior. Think of Jesus. Pharisees seem to push his buttons. They were constantly making his job harder. When they challenged his healing on the Sabbath or tried to paint him into a theological corner, he didn’t roll over. Rather he challenged them, confronted, and generally refused to let them get in his way. Jesus loved the Pharisees, even died for them, but he didn’t let them sabotage his work.

Enemies as Gifts?

At another church, I was constantly irritated by Steve. Unfortunately, Steve had a position of leadership in the church, so I had to deal with him all the time. Like a boat lashed to a dock in choppy water, we were constantly banging into each other. I remember putting off phone calls, avoiding him whenever possible and spending way too much time in pretend arguments. Sometimes it felt like he lived with me, but Steve and I were not buddies.

Looking back on it, I can see that Steve was a gift to me. Pain in the neck though he was, Steve helped me to grow in ways others could not. This is part of the miracle and mystery of faith, that God can use even our enemies to help us grow. Our enemies help us to know ourselves better – they show us things about ourselves we may not want to see. As our buttons get pushed, we can ask ‘why?’ What is this person revealing to me that needs healing in my life?

As Jean Vanier writes in Community and Growth, “We can only really love our enemies and all that is broken in them if we begin to love all that is broken in our own beings.” I have found that if I am willing to take an enemy into my prayer life, and simply hold them there, new insights emerge. My antagonists drive me to pray, as I need patience, courage to confront, or help in letting go of fixing them.

The irony of all this praying is that I often start to feel more compassion and less anger toward them. I can’t say I ever grew to like Steve, but I do feel as if eventually I was able to love him. A little anyway.

Whether You Speak or Keep Silent…

Speak in such a way that you can still hear what the other is saying, and that he or she will still be ready to hear you. Whether you speak or keep silent let it proceed from the peace of the Lord. (Rule for a New Brother, Fr. Dr. H. van der Looy)

We will always run into people who push our buttons. If our workplace enemy quits or moves to a new job, a new one will eventually take their place. Call it Murphy’s Law of Community Living, enemies abhorring a vacuum, or the natural result of our living in a fallen world. Learning how to love our enemies is a lifelong call.

There is no one way to deal with enemies, no template that is always the right thing to do in every situation. The best advice might well be that from Dr. van der Looy, to let whatever we do proceed from the peace of the Lord. That is enough.

Evil Conspiracy, False Accusation, Demotion At Workplace

1 Thessalonians 4:11, ”And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;”

Colossians 1:10, That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

If you are dealing with oppression or false accusation at workplace, you should know that you have enemies that are planning to sack you in the place of your position.

The rate of this problem is making a lot of workers to lose their jobs due to one thing or the other. To have a verbal confrontation or fight with your co-workers may cause your job.

Physical assaults, threats, and intimidation are severe forms of harassment and bullying at workplace. Many people are battling with threat day by day. This kind of people are under severe pressure. They usually don’t enjoy satisfaction at job performance.

There is an invisible barrier that drives people into mediocrity. It cripples the best of people, paralyses people with the poison of rejection and hatred.

This barrier develop by evil conspiracy at workplace. They gather to talk against a person’s position and make plans to bribe their boss to effect your demotion. You should reject.

When it comes to issues that attached to a job position, obstacles will always arise and should be addressed with prayers and fasting.

Usually opposition at workplace reveals the high degree of hatred. However, the great thing about this opposition strengthens the children of God. If they try to push you the wall, the Lord will give you wisdom to deal with them both physically and spiritually.

1 John 5:4, For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

Whenever God want to manifest His power in order to protect your job, He uses people to render that job security for you.

However, the kind of people you work with in that orgnaization will either determine your progress, promotion or  even demotion. God has specific plan for you being in that place and wants you to achieve your destiny.

But the moment some people are not creating the enabling environment or freedom for you to thrive at your workplace may lead to serious problems.

The problem can manifest in the areas of severe spiritual attacks. Therefore, having an enemy in your place of work is a normal phenomenon  everywhere but when the enemy is blocking your progress or restricting your blessings, it carefully shows that you will not enjoy your place of work despite the money or position.

A lot of people are working hard but unfortunately the enemy is putting holes in their hands thereby making it difficult for them to achieve good things with their hands. When you keep experiencing attack at your workplace is an indication that your enemy did not want you to last long in that same position.
