Warfare prayer for my marriage

Spiritual warfare is real and can be devastating to our lives. Marriage is where I have personally endured spiritual warfare many times. Especially when it came to feeling defeated spiritually and mentally as a wife.

What once seemed like just a silly thought would suddenly bombard my mind with full force of negativity, which eventually damaged my self confidence and burdened relationships surrounding around me; especially my marriage.

I had to learn how to fight and rise from the habit of falling to the battles.

Through spiritual warfare, Prayer is one of the most spiritual deadliest weapons to breakthrough and conquer the battle against the enemy. Prayer brings out the authority you have in the Lord as you speak against what the devil is trying to kill. The first part of John 10:10 tells us:

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy…

In marriage we can sometimes become overwhelmed with the thoughts of; “Am I a good enough wife? Am I being the wife God called me to be? Could I be prettier or more adventurous for my husband?” These and many more questions can overwhelm us. It can turn from one thought to many thoughts and if we do not get a ahold of it and stop it, these doubtful little thoughts becomes more aggressive overtime – to the point that we no longer question the wife we are, but we don’t even believe we are a godly wife.

That my friend, is what the enemy wants to do to you. The thief wants to steal and destroy your joy and confidence as a wife. It first starts the battle with a negative reflection on ourselves then the war is completed by us no longer finding our confidence in God.

When we allow doubtful thoughts of ourselves as a wife to enter into our minds over and over it then turns into a habit. A habit then turns to a lifestyle, and a lifestyle can overtake you if the lifestyle is not representing everything that is pure, honest, and noble before God. The last part of John 10:10 restores our hope by Jesus Christ reminding us:

I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

John 10:10

To break these thoughts we must use the power of prayer and confidence in knowing that Christ gives our marriage life. Pray to the Lord about your doubts, fears, and insecurities. Ask Him to reveal to you why you are being attacked as a godly wife. Most likely He will respond with; ‘Because the enemy hates a marriage that is serving the Lord. It makes your marriage powerful’.

Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.

Jeremiah 33:3

Your marriage is powerful in the Lord because two are better than one. You can lift each other up when one feels weak (Ecclesiastes 4:10). The Lord is upon you when the two of you pray together (Matthew 18:20).

As a wife your spiritual discernment and strength is vital to your marriage. When you discern an attack with negative thoughts, cease it with the strength you receive from the Lord. Remember these scriptures to gain hope and trust in why God created you to become one with your husband:

  • An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. Her husband finds full confidence in her and lacks nothing. Proverbs 31:10-11
  • Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered. 1 Peter 3:7
  • “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”       Ephesians 5:31
  • He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.   Proverbs 18:22
  • House and wealth are inherited from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the Lord.  Proverbs 19:14

A wise women desires peace for her home. She builds her home upon the word of God. By consistently reading your word, speaking scripture over your life and the life of your marriage, you can restore, deliver, and even prevent what the enemy wants to steal from you. I encourage you to be proactive with the word of God for your marriage and for the well being of your husbands spiritual walk.

“And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan; 2And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there. 3The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? 4And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, 5And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? 6Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. 7They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? 8He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. 9And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.” – Matthew 19:1-9

Because the Lord hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant. 15And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth. 16For the Lord, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the Lord of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.” – Malachi 2:14-16

Almighty God, You created everything in the world. You thought of it all. There is nothing lacking in what You’ve done. You are so awesome and from where I stand, I’m in awe of You. I Love You, Lord!

Gracious and Merciful Father, today I thank You for partnering me with someone special to be my spouse, whom You have also created in Your image and likeness.

You knew us before we were born and already knew we would be together. You have given us both responsibilities as husband and wife.

I trust that, as we walk in faith and unwavering love, You will protect us from the evil forces in this unpredictable world.

Ephesians 4:1-3 I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for edification. Eph 4:29 Click To Tweet

Genesis 2:18, 22-24 – Then the LORD God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone. I will make him a helper fit for him.”  And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man, he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife. And they shall become one flesh.

Ephesians 5:22-23, 33 – Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself. And let the wife see that she respects her husband.

Renew and revive us

Abba Father, we know that we are all imperfect. So we pray that You will continue to renew us.

Facing challenges in our marriage

Give us strength and humility as we face challenges in our lives. May we always have love, honour, patience and respect for each other and be motivated to shower encouraging words, both spiritually and emotionally.

I declare that as I practice these things daily, the commitment in my marriage will grow and will not be threatened by temptation.

1 Peter 3:7 – Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.

1 Corinthians 7:5 – Do not deprive one another except with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer. And come together again so that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

Blessings on our marriage

By Your love and grace we are made whole. As we continue to make You first place in our lives, I declare that my marriage is blessed and highly favoured!

These mercies I pray in the beautiful, sweet sounding name of Jesus Christ, SO BE IT…Amen and Amen!

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 – Love suffers long and is kind. Love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Titus 2:2-5 Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness. Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.

Are you in a battle today, and it’s taking more than just a physical toll on you? Are you finding it difficult to find the words to tell the devil to be gone? Spiritual warfare is crippling, real, and troublesome, but Jesus has already won us the victory! Pray along with these words now and let the Lord break the chains of fear and bondage!

A Prayer for Spiritual Warfare

Jesus, sometimes I can almost sense the heaviness of pressure mounting and the ominous presence of darkness around me. I recognize my enemy is at work again. Whether he’s trying to discourage me to get sidetracked, to fall into temptation, to give up, or to take my eyes off you, he’s always hanging around.

I need your supernatural power, Lord, to stand strong and not surrender. Physical force won’t help, because you’ve said the weapons of our warfare are different from those in this world. As believers, ours are powerful and can demolish strongholds and lies. These supernatural weapons originate from you. By your precious name and blood, Jesus, I’m asking you to confuse Satan and cancel his attempts to shut me and my influence down. Help me not to become discouraged or to give in when heavy times of testing come.

When I’m tired and weak, you are strong, Lord, and you are my only source of help. I cannot fight without you. Teach me how to pray and to trust you to pull down those strongholds that keep me or others helpless. Guard me from isolation that leaves me exposed and vulnerable. I believe you destroyed the power of my enemy by your death and resurrection. But like a bad penny, my enemy keeps showing up, whispering lies, twisting the truth, and attempting to inflate my selfish pride. He never gives up.

I am declaring the devil and his demons liars today, Lord. Through the power of your precious name and blood, I agree with your Word and the truth that you are in me and that you are greater than my enemy who wants to rule the world. You, your Word, and prayer, Lord, are my secret weapons. I belong to you, and that fills me with a powerful God-confidence. I want to constantly dress in the spiritual armor you give me. Help me use it to defend others from Satan’s fiery darts as well. No one and nothing can snatch me away from your hand.

Strengthen my faith, Lord. Forgive my sins, so that I may be clean in your righteousness. Make me brave, so I can stand and fight the spiritual battles in my life and in our world. Give me your wisdom and discernment so I won’t be caught off guard. Together, Lord, we’ll win, because in truth, you already have.

In Jesus’s powerful name before which every knee shall bow, Amen!
