Prayers for upcoming surgery

Christian singer Natalie Grant is expected to have thyroid surgery soon.

The singer will have to cancel shows between mid-October and November as she recovers from the surgery, which will remove tumors from her thyroid.

She said this week in a Facebook video post that doctors have been monitoring several tumors and nodules for years, but she has scheduled surgery for Oct. 10.

“Anytime you hear the word ‘cancer,’ it is terrifying,” she said. “I’ve been told that Thryoid cancer, if you had to choose one, I don’t know anybody who would choose to have cancer, but if you had to choose one, thyroid cancer would be one that you would want to choose, because it is so treatable and curable.

“I’m asking you, would you pray for me?” she added. “Pray for my husband and my daughters, who are, of course, super concerned for their mama. Pray for wisdom for the doctors, for God’s grace and mercy on my voice.”

Her “Celebrate Christmas” tour with Danny Gokey is still scheduled to start on Nov. 30.

Grant’s hit songs include “Hurricane,” “Held,” and “I Will Not Be Moved.” She is also a five-time Dove Award winner for female vocalist of the year.

{update: Surgery has been moved up to Monday, March 20th}

As some of you are aware, yesterday brought unexpected and daunting news to our lives. After a routine check up and ultrasound my doctors found that there is a large mass/cyst that has been found on my right ovary that I will need to have surgery to remove. At this point and with my health history it is the safest for me to go in for surgery and to remove and biopsy this to make sure that it is not Ovarian Cancer. My doctor has been quite open and frank with me and we are praying that this will just be a simple cyst that will require minimal surgery and not be complicated and will not be cancerous.

As I type this I am receiving an IV for continued treatment for Lyme and yet still in shock from yesterday. Hearing those words and having this sudden and drastic health detour has been an incredible shock to me and to my family. There has been lots of tears, lots of prayers, and lots of learning to trust the Lord with the unknown details that are before us.

In many ways, as I shared in my last update, I have been moving forward, so this news is a bit discouraging. I am leaning and trusting the Lord that He promises that all things work together for His good and that this is just a helpful step in this healing journey.

I would covet your prayers as we move forward with a pre-op appointment on Thursday, for wisdom for me and for my medical team and the surgeons, and for the miraculous removal of this mass. We are praying that this is a benign mass that will only need a simple surgery. Our miraculous prayer request is that this would be removed miraculously.

At this point surgery is scheduled for March 29th and I will continue to update in the days and weeks ahead. Will you also pray for peace? My little heart would so appreciate that. Thank you for your continued prayers, and your love and support during this very scary and overwhelming time.

“For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty Savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With His Love, He will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.”

Prayer Before Surgery

Before surgery, it’s important to turn to God and ask Him to enable you to trust in a good outcome. Call on God to help you contribute your own share of optimism and confidence. Also, call on God to keep far from you any presumptions that it all depends exclusively on you. Welcome His presence into your surgery. If you’re looking for strength and healing before a surgery, pray this prayer: Heavenly Father, grant me joyful acceptance of the surgery which awaits me, and let this be the relief and cure which I seek. Make skilled the work of the surgeon and that of his team for it is unto their knowledge and skill that I give myself for healing. I pray to You, O Lord, that this procedure will be without complication, and that my recovery will be speedy and complete. Amen.
