And then we prayed and prayed some more! I’ve taken that prayer and turned it into this beautiful printable you can print out and tuck it into the bag you’ve got ready for the day when your little one arrives.

These 30 bible verses for labor and delivery will bring comfort during the end of pregnancy and throughout the intensity of any type of birth – natural birth, medicated or a cesarean birth.

Having a baby is not a separate event from life.  If faith and spirituality is part of a woman’s every day, normal life, it would make sense that it would be an important part of birth as well.

The following old and new testament bible verses for labor are a simple way to bring faith and spirituality to each moment, contraction and breath during birth.  Use these during pregnancy, as soon as signs of labor begin, and throughout the whole birthing experience.

Old Testament Bible Verses for Labor

Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (ESV)

2 Chronicles 15:7 “Be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.” (NIV)

Esther 4:14 “Perhaps this is the moment for which you have been created.” (my paraphrase 😉 )

Psalm 121:1-3 “I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber.” (NIV)

Proverbs 29:25 “Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.”

Isaiah 26:3 “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” (ESV)

Isaiah 43:1-2 “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.” (ESV) *this verse was helpful for me around 38 weeks as I was preparing for the birth of my second child.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (NIV)

Lamentations 3:22 “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (ESV)

New Testament Bible Verses for Labor

Matthew 10:29-31 “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.”
