Prayer to sleep peacefully

Jesus repeatedly said, “do not be afraid”. So let me ask: do you sleep peacefully?

As you think about going to bed tonight, do the words, “sleep peacefully” seem ridiculous?

The devil WANTS you to be afraid… ALWAYS!

Satan and his demons may be totally evil, but they are definitely not stupid.

However, they do not have infinite resources as God does.

They are not omnipresent, meaning they can’t be everywhere as God can.

Nor are Satan and his demons all-powerful. All of them combined are as nothing compared to the infinite God.

Because of these limitations, Satan and his demons have to pick their battles carefully.

And that’s exactly what Satan did when he tempted Jesus.

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry.” (Matthew 4:1-2)

The phrase: “He was hungry” has got to be the biblical understatement of all time!

After 40 days of fasting, Jesus — as a human being — was at His weakest point ever. That’s the moment Satan chose to try to get Him to sin.

Do you know why? Because Satan is a bully, and that’s how bullies operate. They go after those who are weaker than they are.

Small wonder, then, that demons go after us when we’re weary, half asleep, and already churning over difficult problems.

Fight back! Here’s what I urge you to do:

Here are several verses that you need to know by heart:

…for he gives to his beloved sleep. (Psalm 127:2)

When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. (Proverbs 3:24)

In peace I will both lie down and sleep;
for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. (Psalm 4:8)

You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you,
because he trusts in you. (Isaiah 26:3)

Don’t those thoughts seem wonderful to you? Those thoughts are from the Mind of God. He wants you to sleep peacefully. And realize this: He was already thinking of you in eternity past, before He even made the universe!

How To Apply The Principle:

  1. Realize: If it’s in the Bible, it’s possible.
  2. Decide: If it’s possible, tell yourself that you want it.
  3. Discover: what possible conditions there may be. Is it available to anyone?
  4. Learn: what steps, if any, must I do. What’s my part? (See “Here’s What To Do” below.)

Do You Want To Sleep Peacefully?

Here’s What To Do!

Get some 3″ x 5″ recipe cards, and write / print each verse on a card.

OR: I’ve made it even easier for you. Scroll down, and you’ll see an image of a page of 4 Scripture cards. I’ve put these into a PDF file, which you can open and view by clicking the link below the image. From there you can save the PDF file and print the page of cards. I’ve put faint lines around the edge of each card to show where to cut. Cut them out with a scissors, or with a ruler and a utility knife. You end up with (4) cards, 3″ x 5″ (like recipe cards).

I printed mine on heavier 8-1/2″ x 11″ paper, 65# weight, from an office supply store.

OK, I’VE DONE MY PART!

I’ve given you all the information you need, along with examples and materials.

Now it’s up to you.

Do you like the way things have been going? Or are you unable to sleep peacefully? Is your “sleep” plagued by nightmares, fear, doubt, worry, anxiety, even panic attacks? That doesn’t have to continue. Let God help you!

Don’t listen to the voice of reluctance telling you that all this Bible stuff in nonsense, and that it won’t work and you’ll never be able to sleep peacefully. Those thoughts are lies from the devil!

I assure on the authority of the Word of God: turning to Him and learning a few helpful verses WILL work and that you CAN sleep peacefully! You will finally be cooperating with God instead of keeping His hands tied.

Even if you haven’t committed these verses to memory yet, Keep a set of these printed verses beside your bed. If fear or anxiety tries to grab you, do this: turn on the light if necessary (or use a small flashlight) and speak these verses out loud! That’s what I did. In my crisis moment, having memorized a verse, I stood up beside my bed and spoke God’s Word. You can read my own incident in my article entitled The Night I Stood Up To The Devil .

Those verses are like medicine for your soul. And, like medicine prescribed by your doctor, this “medicine” needs to be taken internally.

Print out a couple of sets of them. Take one with you and read the card over several times during the day. Put another set on your night stand, and read them out loud as you’re getting into bed.

I also suggest you get a set of our Scripture cards, which you can see in the gallery below this article. But regardless, spend a little time each day feeding your soul on this spiritual medicine, which God has prescribed for your spiritual health.

Now pray this prayer, and then get busy.

PRAYER: “Heavenly Father, I’m going to sleep peacefully because here’s what I know: You are always with me, You are vastly more powerful than any demons seeking to torment me, and I’ll sleep well because I have put my trust completely in You. I will never again fear going to bed. You will bring me safely through whatever problems I face tomorrow. But right now I praise you, Lord, because tonight my sleep will be SWEET!!”

Peaceful Sleep

Father, thank You for peaceful sleep, and for Your angels that encamp around us who fear You. You deliver us and keep us safe. The angels excel in strength, do Your word, and heed the voice of Your word. You give Your angels charge over me, to keep me in all my ways.
I bring every thought, every imagination, and every dream into the captivity and obedience of Jesus Christ. Father, I thank You that, even as I sleep, my heart counsels me and reveals to me Your purpose and plan. Thank You for sweet sleep, for You promised Your beloved sweet sleep. Therefore, my heart is glad and my spirit rejoices. My body and soul rest and confidently dwell in safety. Amen.
