However, one way to pursue having a child is to ask for God’s blessing and His support while trying to conceive.

Since having a child is one of the most rewarding parts of life, it is a choice that should never be taken lightly. Despite the obstacles you might face when trying to conceive, asking for God’s guidance and support is the best way to start your own family. Here are six prayers to help you understand the magnitude of having a child and ask for God’s blessing for you to take on this wonderful responsibility.

The period a couple is trying to conceive can be very challenging; but then again, waiting for anything is never easy, especially when it is beyond one’s control.

The physical and emotional stress of failed treatments, or the agony of failed pregnancies can make one grow hopeless, weary and discouraged.

It’s OK to breakdown from time to time and let the emotions flow, we are only human; but please don’t lose hope. In this life we will constantly face challenges; but we must never be defeated.

As long as there is life, we have to keep pushing. We have to stay strong and keep being positive, it will all be worth it in the end.

Our God is the way, the truth, and the life, and his word cannot return to him unfulfilled. He has promised us that children are his heritage, and none shall be barren in the land.

We stand firmly on his promises and decree that as many as are believing him for the fruit of the womb, their mouths shall soon be filled with testimonies, Amen.  He did it for Rachel, Sarah, Hannah, and Elizabeth of old, and is still doing it for many women of our time.

1. Hebrews 11:11-12
And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise. And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.

2. Genesis 25:21
Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife, because she was childless. The Lord answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant.

3. Psalm 20:1-4
May the Lord answer you when you are in distress; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you. May he send you help from the sanctuary and grant you support from Zion. May he remember all your sacrifices  and accept your burnt offerings. May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.

4. Psalm 113:9
He settles the childless woman in her home as a happy mother of children. Praise the Lord.

5. Romans 5:3-5
Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

6. Luke 1:13
But the angel said to him: “Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John”.

7. Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

8. Psalm 130:5
I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope.

9. Joshua 1:9
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

10. Psalm 55:22
Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.

11. Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

12. Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.

13. 1 Peter 5:6-7
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

14. James 1:2-7
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.

15. Genesis 21:2
Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him.

Then God remembered Rachel; he listened to her and enabled her to conceive.

19. Luke 1: 36-37
“Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. For no word from God will ever fail.”

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

22. 2 Corinthians 12:8-10
Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

 23. Genesis 21:1
Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised.

24. Isaiah 40:30-31

Abraham’s faith did not weaken, even though he knew that he was too old to be a father at the age of one hundred and that Sarah, his wife, had never been able to have children. He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God.

prayer for couples trying to conceive

Praying for you,” is one of the most common comments I receive during this season.

I know often people want to have a more lengthy response full of wisdom to sort of “fix” my situation, but honestly “I’m praying for you” goes such a long way.

To be prayed for is to be loved and I cherish those prayers and that love more than I can explain.

As you have probably gathered from posts like THIS one, I have a huge burden for others in this valley. There are so many longing wombs out there. Probably more in your life than you realize.

So whether you yourself are struggling with infertility or someone you love is, here are 5 specific ways I pray for those struggling to conceive.

1. For them to be drawn to Christ through this situation.

I have found some of my greatest joy, intimacy, and peace during this season and I pray these couples will too. We see all throughout Scripture that God desires to grow us during suffering so I pray that for their lives. For couples who don’t know Christ as Savior, pray that God will use this season to pull on their hearts and reveal Himself in irresistible ways.

2. For them to be filled with peace, hope, faith and joy.

There are many times I’ll be having a tough day and God pours these out on me. It’s in those moments that I know someone somewhere is praying for me. Some days faith is hard to come by and hope has to be picked up over and over again. Pray that the Lord who IS all of these will fill their hearts.

3. For their marriages to be strengthened and protected

We know good and well that Satan will use whatever he can to destroy marriage. This sorrow and longing brings out so many emotions and tough conversations. I’m praying specifically for these families that Satan will have no place in their trials, that intimacy will grow not dwindle, and the journey will strengthen the bond they have.

4. For understanding friends and families.

I am SO blessed by a WONDERFUL support group. I have many women around me who are open with me and are there for me by prayer and encouragement. It’ so nice to have friends that understand the exact hurt I’m feeling without thinking I’m crazy, selfish, mean, depressed, ungrateful, or hopeless. MANY of these couples have no such group. I pray God sends people into their life to be that. I also pray that those around them who simply can’t understand from experience will be filled with compassion and discernment in tough situations.

5. For them to have a baby!

Of course this is the obvious one. I used to pray this for couples trying to have babies long before I was ever married. I put it last thought because in the last year I’ve learned how important it is to pray those other 4 points along with the conception prayer.

“He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children, Praise the Lord!” Psalm 113:9

I pray that verse over our family and the many others I know believing that God is powerful and sovereign!

This list could go on and on… and it will. A huge prayer project with A Sweet Aroma is in the works but this is a great list to start out with.

A friend of mine wrote “There is no mental mud like that of an empty womb. It simply oozes and drips on and clouds every other thing you do and think about. It is not a separate part of your life, it is your whole life and it affects all other things in your life. There is no separating it. ”

It’s so true. There are so many aspects of infertility I never saw until I was in it.

For those of you who’ve never experienced it but still care to pray and encourage and read, THANK YOU. You are such a huge blessing to my life.

For those of you who are going through it right now or may have in the past, would you please share this with those around you?

I would love to hear from you, pray for you, mourn with you, and rejoice with you!

Today I am dedicating this Fearless Friday for all those married couples who are seeking to have a baby. I confess this is rather personal and has been weighing on my heart for a long time.

My husband and I have been trying for another baby ever since our son, Andrew, was eight months old. We were hoping to give him a sibling that was close in age; but; alas, that wasn’t meant to be. Andrew is five, almost 5 1/2 years old and still no baby brother or sister.

Don’t get me wrong, I am so grateful for Andrew. He is a shining star in our lives and we love him dearly. I know that I am blessed to have him in my life and I can’t imaging living without him. Still, I can’t help but pray/wish that I could get pregnant again.

God’s wisdom is so far above us, and His will is best for us. In my head I understand all the practical reasons why the Lord may have kept us from getting another little blessing: unemployment/money issues, health issues, we were moving out of state, hubby was away for long periods and now I’m getting older. But, when Andrew pats my belly and asks: “Why doesn’t God give you another baby like other mommies?”, my heart aches.

God is ever faithful, and whether or not I ever have another child, I will bless His Holy Name. I know there are many women and families facing infertility, miscarriage, etc. and so I am praying for all of them. And if you are someone reading this blog who is in this situation, know that you are not alone and prayers are being sent up to heaven for you.

Prayer to Saint Gerard for Motherhood

O good St Gerard, powerful intercessor before God and wonder worker of our day, confidently I call upon you and seek your aid. On Earth you always fulfilled God’s designs, help me now to do the holy will of God. Implore the Master of Life, from whom all paternity proceeds, to render me fruitful in offspring, that I may raise up children to God in this life, and in the world to come, heirs to the Kingdom of His Glory. Amen.
