How to pray when under spiritual attack

how to pray when under spiritual attack

Christians are the prime targets of the devil, the common enemy of mankind. Now more than ever, he unleashes his rage and destruction against people because he knows that his time is short. Christians especially experience strange attacks, both physical and spiritual, day and night.

In such conditions, we are not expected to be helpless or defenceless, rather, we are supposed to pray and subdue the enemies who have come to attack us, and quench them as the fire of thorns.

Isaiah 59:19: “So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the West and His glory from the rising of the sun. when the enemy shall come in like a flood, the spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.”

Exodus 14:7-14: “And he took six hundred chosen chariots and all the chariots of Egypt and captains over everyone of them and the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh, King of Egypt and he pursued after the children of Israel:; and the children of Israel went out with an high hand. But the Egyptians pursued after them all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh and his horsemen and his army and overtook them encamping by the sea beside Pihahiroth before Baalzephon. And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes and behold the Egyptians marched after them and they were sore afraid and the children of Israel cried out unto the Lord. And they said unto Moses: Because there were no graves in Egypt hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? Wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us to carry us forth out of Egypt. Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying: “Let us alone that we may serve the Egyptians|?” “For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.” And Moses said unto the people: “Fear ye not, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen today, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The Lord shall fight for you and ye shall hold your peace.”

As long as a person is alive, he will always face attacks, especially if the person is a Christian. You may wonder why you should be under attack.

You must understand the mysteries of life; once you are a child of destiny, you come under attacks. You don’t have to offend anybody nor go against any law.

Joseph came under attacks first, because of his dreams and later in Egypt, because he refused to commit an offence against his master and sin against God.

When a person comes under attacks, he would have decisions to take and most times, people take wrong decisions which compound their problems.

In the text above, Israel was under attack. Although born in the cradle of miracles, they found themselves in the midst of problems. They marched forward but got to a standstill and did not know their door of escape.
They could not go further; the pillar that was leading them had led them to a seeming destruction: in front was the Red Sea and behind was the host of Egypt as well as Pharaoh himself.

On the right and the left were insurmountable rocks. Behind them, was the raging foe pursuing, ready to attack and devour them; surely this was a time when hope would naturally die.

If you are a man or woman of destiny you would have identified with the above description. There would have been a time when you were attacked from all sides or you may be going through that attack.

Perhaps, for many years, the devil has been using you to fabricate bricks for his building and you have found a way of escape by giving your life to the Lord Jesus Christ. All of a sudden fresh problems came up against you at once.

In Isaiah 59:19, the Scripture says, “When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him. “

Why is it that you find yourself under attack because you are praying?

What do you do when these attacks come against you? Pray kinds of prayers to be prayed when under attacks.

PRAYERS TO BE PRAYED WHEN UNDER ATTACK
1. Praise – Exalt the Lord: When Paul and Silas were in the prison, they praised the Lord with all their hearts and the earthquake of deliverance descended upon the whole prison and the chains that bound them broke.

2. Bind every spirit of fear: That is bind the powers that will make you panic Psalm 46:10 reads,”Be still and know that I am God I will be exalted among the heathen I will be exalted in the earth.”

If you don’t bind the spirit of fear and panic, you will make more destructive mistakes. You will do terrible things that will worsen the situation. Then, the weapon of surprise by the enemy will catch up with you.

3. Ask God for wisdom concerning the steps to take and the decisions to make: Ask Him what he want you to learn in the situation. When there is a crisis- there is concentrated information, which you have to analyze with wisdom. Pray for divine wisdom in any situation for find yourself.

4. Pray that the power of god should move in the situation.

5. Pray warfare prayers: The Bible says, ”Submit yourselves therefore to God Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” When you are a real fighter, you intimidate the enemy. Use your weapons o warfare; the word of God, the fire of God, Angels of God, the Blood of Jesus; to fight back and launch a counter attack against the enemy that wants to deal with you.

6. Pray that it is the enemy that must surrender and not you.

Be determined to fight through and the Lord will raise a standard against him.

The text in Isaiah 59:19 is actually saying that when the enemy comes against you, the spirit of God will come like a flood and raise up a standard against the enemy. Many people interpret it to mean the enemy rising up like a flood.

A BASIC CONDITON: YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN

The prayers you are going to pray would wage war against the enemy but I want you to surrender your life to the Lord Jesus Christ if you have not done so.

See yourself as a sinner, repent of your sins and ask Him to forgive you. Name those sins one after the other and forsake them. Ask the Lord to cleanse you with His blood which was shed on the cross at Calvary for your sins. Enthrone Him over your life and turn away from the world. Decide to follow Him for ever with all your heart. Say good-bye to the devil and the world.

Now that you have taken this important decision, the Lord will uphold you with his hand of righteousness and you will be able to stand against the wiles of the devil, in the name of Jesus.

You have an opportunity today to make your Pharaoh sink in the Red Sea and to disgrace all your oppressors.
The prayers you are going to pray will cause deliverance in the head and the internal organs. They will repair every rotten part of your life and make infirmities to jump out.

Pray fervently and with all your heart. Don’t be alarmed by what you fee afterwards. Concentrate and allow God to work .

In Obadiah 1:17, the Bible says: “Upon mount Zion, there shall be deliverance and there shall be holiness and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.”

There’s nothing that shakes the kingdom of darkness more than a believer that prays in fearless faith in God.

When we believe in the truth of God’s ability to deliver us from our situations, it dismantles all of the enemy’s attacks.

Discouragement, depression, and despondency all lose their grip in the midst of unshakable faith.

The Bible says that God gives us a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind. Think about this!

Faith frees us up to walk in the fullness of this spirit. Fear, however, robs us of accessing this level of spiritual awareness and keeps us from fully stepping into who we are in Christ.

Take back your position through the power of prayer. Operate convinced in the belief that God is who He says He is and that He can do just what He said He can do. These prayers can help unshackle your faith.

Here are 5 Prayers to Pray when you are under spiritual attack:

Help me Lord

“Father right now in the name of Jesus I hold fast to the truth of who You are in my life.

Oh Righteous One, I know and believe that my help comes from You. There is nothing in my pathway that can prevent me from walking in the fullness of favor, love, and complete unity with the Father, Son, and The Holy Spirit.

I believe Lord, that even as the words are leaving my mouth…blessings are coming my way, doubt is leaving, and faith is replacing fear.

In Jesus’ name I pray,

Amen.”

It’s true. You have an adversary who wants to attack your desires, your thoughts, even how you see and treat your body. So you and I need to be on guard against Satan’s schemes.

According to 1 Peter 5:8, “Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour” (NASB). But God’s Word also gives us a strategy against those attacks by telling us to “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes…” (Ephesians 6:11-18). I find it interesting that every piece of “armor” described in that passage refers to the character of Christ. In other words, put on Christ-likeness – abide in Christ – and you will fend off the attacks of the enemy.

We abide in Christ through surrender and constant communion with Him. As you suit up with the armor of God, here are five prayers to pray against Satan’s attacks on your heart, mind, emotions, mouth, and body.

1. A Prayer to Guard Your Heart

Lord God, Captain of my heart, Satan knows if I follow Your Greatest Commandment – to love You with all my heart, soul, and mind (Matthew 22:37) – he is powerless over me. Guard my heart, Lord Jesus, so that it beats for You alone. Don’t let me grow complacent toward You or be lured to love anyone or anything more than You. Remove the idols from my heart so that You alone command my allegiance and utmost affections Help me to love and forgive others as You have forgiven me so the enemy can get no foothold through hate or bitterness on my part. Cultivate in my heart Your love that “bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things” (>1 Corinthians 13:7, NASB). Finally, Lord, set my heart on things above, not on earthly things. Help me to remember that You died for me and my life is now hidden which Christ in God (>Colossians 3:1-2). Increase my longing for heaven so this world holds no power over me.

2. A Prayer to Defend Your Mind

Almighty God, cover my mind with the helmet of Your salvation, reminding me constantly that I am Your child and the enemy can’t mess with me. Fix my thoughts, Lord Jesus, on what is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. Help me to think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise so Your peace will guard my mind (Philippians 4:8-9). Don’t let me copy the behavior and customs of this world, but transform me into a new person by changing the way I think. Then I will learn to recognize Your will for me which is good and pleasing and perfect (Romans 12:2, NLT).  Saturate my mind with Your truth so I am convinced that the answers are found in Your Word, not out in the world.

3. A Prayer to Calm Your Emotions

Lord, keep the enemy at bay by calming my emotions with the peace of Your presence. Help me to follow Your command and not worry about anything, but pray about everything, with a thankful heart offering up prayers and requests to you so that You can give me that peace that no one can completely understand – a peace that will control the way I think and feel (Phil. 4:6-7, CEV). Remind me, daily, that You are the Only One who can meet my emotional needs so I don’t look to any person for my identity, validation, or for my love tank to be filled. Thank You that You are the God of peace, the God of order, the God who heals my wounds and helps me sort through and make sense of life. You are not the God of chaos or confusion. Fill me with Your Spirit so I may express to others only love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).

4. A Prayer to Cover Your Mouth

Lord, Jesus, guard my mouth so that my words will be few. Help me to be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger (James 1:19). Don’t let me speak reckless words that can pierce like swords. Instead, give me a tongue that brings healing (Proverbs 12:18). Don’t let me give in to gossip or speak careless critical words that will wound others. Keep the enemy far from me so that no unwholesome talk comes out of my mouth but only what is helpful for building others up, according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Don’t let me grieve the Holy Spirit through my words (Ephesians 4:29-30).

5. A Prayer to Protect Your Body

Lord, I give my body to You. Let it be a living and holy sacrifice, the kind You will find acceptable (Romans 12:1, NLT). I  know from Your Word that Satan can not sift me like wheat or even lay a hand on me without Your permission. So place Your hedge around me so that my body – Your temple – can be preserved, pure, holy, and healthy for You (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Block Satan’s attempts to make me doubt that I am “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14) and don’t let me listen to his taunts to harm my body through neglect, contempt, addiction or abuse. I am Yours, Lord Jesus, and I want to glorify You in my body so keep me from Satan’s attempts and the temptations in this world and in my flesh to make me impure, to dress immodestly, to make my body a showcase or advertisement for evil or self glorification.

6 Things to Do When Under Spiritual Attack
Cody Archer

As followers of Yeshua all of us go through seasons of increased spiritual attack, which can unsettle us if we don’t know how to respond. Because Satan hates God, he also hates you and me. His hatred manifests through temptations, lies, fear, sickness, division and more. From God’s perspective, He allows these attacks to test us, strengthen us and then leads us to victory so His character and kingdom can be advanced in and through us.

As we approach Yeshua’s return, spiritual warfare will increase to an unprecedented level (Rev 12:7-17), which means we must be watchful and persevering now in preparation. The good news is that together with Yeshua we will have the ultimate victory! In the meantime, when we come under heavy fire from the enemy, doing these six things  will help us come through “the valley of the shadow of death” in victory.

1. Repent

When we come into agreement with the enemy we empower him to wreak havoc in our lives. By repenting of our sin and breaking agreement with the enemy we seal off access points for demonic attacks. But don’t stop there:repentance leads to forgiveness, and forgiving those who have wronged us cuts off even more of Satan’s access to our lives.

2. Stay in Community

In John 10, Satan comes like a wolf to scatter and isolate the sheep.  There is safety when we stay submitted and connected to the spiritual family God has placed us in  (Heb 10:25). I recently was experiencing intense spiritual attack against my mind and asked two of my leaders to pray with me. Through their prayers I had a breakthrough that I was not able to gain on my own.

3. Stay in the Word

Ephesians 6:17 tells us that the word of God is a sword, an offensive weapon. The Roman sword Paul mentions was a short dagger that was not only effective against physical enemies but was also used to remove arrows from wounded soldiers. In other words, we use the word of God to fight and minister to ourselves and others. Meditating in God’s word cleanses us (Eph 5:26), lights our path (Ps 119:105) and guides us in purity (Ps 119:9).

4. Speak in Faith

Often it is not enough to internally meditate on God’s word, but in faith we need to speak the truth of it into our circumstances. Words transform the atmosphere around us. We speak the truth to combat the enemy’s lies. In faith we declare what God says about us, has done for us in the past, and is about to do.

5. Keep Worshipping

Don’t get distracted by the enemy and make him bigger than he really is. Keep God and His greatness in the center of your attention. When under attack you won’t feel like worshipping, but do the opposite of how you feel!  Come to Him with thanksgiving and enter into His presence with praise (Ps 100). Worship your way into the truth. Pray much in the spirit. Laugh your way into the joy of the Lord. Sing, dance, and make a joyful sound unto the Lord.

6. Keep Standing

One of the most important scriptures about resisting spiritual attack is Ephesians 6:10-18. We are exhorted to put on our spiritual armor so that we can stand against the attacks of the devil. Standing means we are determined to not give up ground. If we turn and run from the battle not only do we lose ground but also leave our back unprotected from more fiery darts. There will be lulls in the attacks and they will come in different forms, but if we stand steady in the power of the Lord’s might we will win!
