Prayer Of Protection Those With Dementia

Look down in pity and mercy on all that are suffering with the illness of dementia. Father we know that although our loved ones may not recognise the family and friends who love them dearly – Your Holy Spirit can commune with their human spirit in a unique and Godly way – which must be very precious to Your heart.

Father I ask Your protection on those that are suffering with this debilitating mental disease and pray that You will minister to the emotional and spiritual of those we love, with all forms of this mental illness.

Thank You Father that in the power of Your Holy Spirit, You can touch the heart of those that have lost the memories of those that are their nearest and dearest. Comfort those that feel excluded from a loved one with dementia, in the knowledge that Your grace is sufficient.

Thank you,

Amen.

“”I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”

(John 10:11)

Spirit of the living God – fall afresh on me and sustain me with Your goodness – so that I may be a vessel that is fit to do Your bidding, Break me of my self-will and mould me into the person that You desire me to be – that I may be a witness to Your grace and speak boldly of Your great salvation – and help me to be ready always to give an answer for the hope that I have in Christ Jesus, my Lord,

In whose name I pray.

AMEN

“and if children, also heirs-heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ-seeing that we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.”

Refreshment for Body, Soul and Spirit

I pray that You renew my heart with Your healing touch and refresh me in body, soul and spirit – Thanks You Jesus

Prayers For Those That Are In Need

Dear God, I know that it is Your will to help those that are afflicted – to support the weak; to provide for the widows and orphans – and to help those that are in need.Use my hands to be of service to those in need and use my voice to speak words of healing and encouragement to those that are afflicted and in distress.

Thank You for hearing my prayer,

Amen

“For the oppressed will not always be forgotten; the hope of the afflicted will not perish forever.”

(Psalm 9:18)
Times of Healing and Spiritual Renewal

Loving Father, I know that You often halt us in our tracks and remove us from the business of life, through an illness or a time of ill-health – so that we are forced take our eyes off the hurly-burly of life, and lie on an enforced bed of sickness – in order to rediscover what are our true priorities are in life.

Father, I know that I have not spent quality time with You, as I have allowed the daily duties of life and less-important issues to crowd out my special time alone in Your presence.

Forgive me I pray. I want to use this time of ill-health as an opportunity to get closer to You. Lead me and guide me in this time of illness – and may it become a time of spiritual as well as a period of physical rest.

Heal me Father I pray, not only in my body but also in my relationship with You,

Thank you,

Amen

“you are being renewed in the spirit of your minds;”

Sometimes something happens that is so incredible that I find it hard to write about.  I still sit here amazed by it.  I will do my best to tell you this story truthfully and faithfully.  This is how it happened…

I have written multiple stories about Mike and Jo.  I am convinced that if you followed this couple around you would witness a multitude of miracles.

Two and a half years ago Mike went to the hospital with a minor infection.  When I arrived to pray with him and Jo, it was clear that Mike’s mind was not right.  Yes, Mike already suffered from a variety of mental and emotional challenges, but this was different.  It was dementia.

He was transported from the hospital to a nursing facility.  After a few months it became clear that Mike wasn’t going anywhere.  This would be where he would finish his days.  The dementia was increasing.  He was on a puree diet and strapped to either a wheelchair or a bed.  I hated to see him that way.

Jo resigned herself to the new reality.  Things had already been going down hill for Mike before this and he was becoming more than she could handle.  In a way it was a blessing for her.  She too is greatly taxed emotionally and Mike’s worsening conditioning was taking a greater toll on her.

After he had been there almost two years, Jo told me that she wanted me to pray that Mike would experience a full recovery.  Now I have witnessed miracles.  Jo in fact had been healed of cancer the year before.  It was incredible.  She had a double-mastectomy and twenty-four malignant nodes removed.  Twenty-four!  She remains cancer free.  But this was something different…or maybe not.

At any rate, I had a hard time wrapping my faith around it.  Jo was insistent, though.  She kept on asking me to pray every chance she could.  I honestly did not have any expectations of recovery.  Every time I visited Mike it seemed impossible…until last Christmas.

We had been praying for recovery for about two months.  I walked into the common area of the nursing facility where about thirty residents were being entertained by a “singer” and a karaoke machine.  It was painful, but most of the people seemed to enjoy it.  Mike was.  I found him sitting in his chair with his legs crossed and keeping the beat.  I was used to finding him with his head sunk into his chest and his feet resting helpless on the ground.  You couldn’t even push his chair without his feet dragging under it.

I sat down beside him and he turned and said, “Hey, Paul.  I sure am glad to see you!”  He knew what day it was and was asking about church the next Sunday.  He hoped to be there.  And he was. We went on to have the most normal conversation I have ever had with him even before the dementia set in.  His mind was as clear as a bell.

Before I left, I found his nurse and asked her what was going on with Mike.  She said, “We have no idea.  It just happened all of a sudden.  I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Mike started coming to church regularly in his chair.  He told me he wanted to walk again.  Most nursing places don’t want their folks walking around.  It is too high of a fall risk.  I wondered if they would even let him do this.  I said, “Mike, there is absolutely nothing wrong with your legs except that you haven’t used them in two years.  Start doing the physical therapy.”  And we prayed that he would walk.

About five months later Jo called and asked if I could attend the next family consultation about Mike’s condition and progress.  We sat around a table with the staff involved with Mike.  They wheeled him in and moved him to a regular chair and the woman in charge of the meeting said, “Mr. Mike, say goodbye to your chair.  You won’t need that anymore.”  He looked as surprised as Jo and I.  The woman in charge went on to say, “Today we are going to make the plans for Mr. Mike’s discharge.  He’s going home.”  Jo in her joy began singing “To God be the glory great things he has done…”  She sang the entire first verse and might have launched into the second had the administrator not gracefully continued with the meeting.  I asked her how all this came to be and she said, “It’s what you think it is.  We have no other explanation.  It’s a miracle.”

When we finished making plans, they brought out a walker for Mike to use.  He stood up like a man of forty years.  I actually have it on video. He had no balance issues and seemed strong on his feet.  He took hold of the walker and we followed him to his room.  We could barely keep up with him.  One week later he went home.

When he walked into church the next Sunday, people were blown away.  I realize that you would have to see it to believe it.  I did.

Miracles are not something to be understood.  They are to be celebrated.  One could ask, “Why doesn’t it always work like this?”  Well, it isn’t magic.  It is the work of God…a very mysterious God.

I know one thing for sure.  If someone asks me to pray for something, regardless of how impossible it seems, I will pray and trust God.  What God did for Mike’s mind, he did for my faith.

I pray that you will find miraculous healing as you seek God’s plan for your life – His plan to prosper you and to give you a hope and future!

Here are Four Prayers for Healing you can use today to speak life and hope into your situation.

A Prayer for Personal Healing

God, you know me so well. You created me. You know the number of hairs on my head, and you even know the thoughts conceived in my heart before I ever vocalize them. You’ve told us to come to you and ask for every need of life. You are Jehovah-Rapha, the God who heals, and you have the final word on my destiny, the number of years I’ll live and serve you on earth.

I’m coming to you today as your child, longing to hear from you and asking for your divine healing. There’s so much I don’t understand about life. But I do know that with one touch, one word, you can make me whole. Please forgive me of my sins, cleanse me of my unrighteousness, and begin your healing from the inside out.

I don’t always know what your will is Lord, especially in times like now, when I desperately seek your face. I offer you no promises, no bargains, no deals to exchange for my health. I simply bow my heart before you to tell you the desire of my heart: that I want to spend as many years as I can loving you here, loving others, and wanting to become more like you. However you choose to accomplish that is up to you—and okay with me. If you use doctors to provide healing, give them wisdom to know what to do. Regardless of how you accomplish it, the healing you give is always miraculous. And you deserve all the praise.

I absolutely believe you have the power to heal. You demonstrated that on earth, and you still heal in miraculous ways today. Even when my faith is weak, you say it is enough, and my love for you is strong. And I know you already hold my heart and life in your hands. It’s up to you. If I can bring you more glory through healing, then that’s what I ask for. That’s what I desire.

But if your answer is no, or not now, I know that your grace is sufficient for me. Ultimately, I want your will to be my will. I look forward to spending an eternity with you. But Lord, if you have planned still more for me to do here on this earth, I not only need and want your physical healing, Lord, but a thorough, deep-down cleansing and strengthening—a whole-hearted renewal of all that I am. Because all that I am is yours. Use this trial to strengthen me from a “what-if” faith to a “no-matter-what” faith. And no matter what, I choose to honor you and give you glory.
In Jesus’s name, Amen.

How to Pray for Healing – Max Lucado

A Short Prayer for Healing for Friends

Lord, your Word speaks promises of healing and restoration and I thank you for the miracles you still perform today. Today I claim those promises over my friend. I believe in the healing power of faith and prayer and I ask you to begin your mighty work in the life of my friend. Please reach down and surround my friend with supernatural peace and strength and give her the faith to believe that all things are possible for you. Protect her from Satan’s lies and discouragement and let her miraculous healing begin. Amen.

A Prayer for Healing and Grace

Dear God,
We confess our need for you today. We need your healing and your grace. We need hope restored. We need to be reminded that you work on behalf of those you love, constantly, powerfully, completely. Forgive us for trying to fix our situations all on our own. Forgive us for running all different directions and spinning our wheels to find help, when true help and healing must be found first in You. Forgive us for forgetting how much we need you, above everyone and everything else. We come to you and bring you the places we are hurting. You see where no one else is able to fully see or understand. You know the pain we’ve carried. The burdens. The cares. You know where we need to be set free. We ask for your healing and grace to cover every broken place. Every wound. Every heartache. Thank you that you are Able to do far more than we could ever imagine. Thank you for your Mighty Power that acts on behalf of your children. We reach out to you, and know that you are restoring and redeeming every place of difficulty, every battle, for your greater glory. Thank you that you will never waste our pain and suffering. We love you. We need you today.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen

A Prayer for Healing Sick Family and Friends

Lord Jesus, thank you that you love . I know that you hate what their illness is doing to them/me. I ask that you would heal this disease, that you would have compassion and bring healing from all sickness.

Your word says in Psalm 107:19-20 that when we call out to you the Eternal one you will give the order, heal and rescue us from certain death. In the Bible, I have read of miraculous healing and I believe that you still heal the same way today. I believe that there is no illness you cannot heal after all the bible tells of you raising people from the dead so I ask for your healing in this situation.

I also know from my experience of life on earth that not everyone is healed. If that happens here than keep my heart soft towards you, help me to understand your plan and help me to be excited about heaven.

God, I thank you that belongs to you and that you are in control of everything that happens from our first breath to our last sigh.
Amen.

A blessing before our meal. . .

Blessed are you, God of all creation, whose very life permeates our world, and whose goodness fills our hearts with joy.

Blessed are you, who have brought us together as friends and colleagues.

Be present to us; continue to work in us the wonder of your grace, forming us as your people committed to justice and mercy, healing and compassion, in a world burdened by violence, injustice, and indifference.

Pour forth your blessing on us, renew and refresh us for our mission, making us effective leaders and wise stewards of your bountiful gifts.

Bless this food we are about to share, a sign of your goodness to us, bless those who prepared it, and who serve it, and keep us ever mindful of those who go hungry this night.

May our meal and this time nourish our bodies and strengthen the bonds that unite us in love and faithful service.

We ask this through Christ Jesus, Amen.
