Mealtime prayers are essential conversations with God. Paul tells us to: “Celebrate always, pray constantly, and give thanks to God no matter what circumstances you find yourself in.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
Poverty and starvation are an everyday reality for some, while others of us quench their thirst and put hunger at bay at our leisure. No matter which side of the pendulum we find ourselves on, praying God’s will over our lives and our meals is important. “… for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18b NLT)
Praying God’s blessing over our meals is a simple way to make a big difference on the daily alignment of our hearts. Use dinner time and all other times of eating to recall God’s goodness in your life. It helps us remember that our blessings come from our Creator… who deserves credit for all.
Here are 10 prayers that will fit any mealtime situation, from formal family dinners, to meals on the go at the neighborhood drive-thru:

We must daily take out time to dedicate our family into the hands of God. Pray that His presence will always go before and after them wherever they are. Speak a covering over each member of the family.
2. Dedicate your family to serve the Lord
“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15).
Pray and disconnect from every affiliation from previous generations. Use the blood of His son Jesus Christ to break any covenants made in your family bloodline with other gods. Pray against generational curses. Declare that your family is God’s and you all are moving forward in Jesus name.
3. Pray for the release of vision into your home
“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he” (Proverbs 29:18).

God promises that He would meet and supply all our needs in Philippians 4:19 “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus”. Thank God for daily meeting the needs of all family members. God honours His word more than His name. He would do whatever He says He would. Speak His blessings over all family members. Don’t forget that you should pray and declare that you all will reap whatever you have sowed.
7. Praying for your family Pray for the Children
But Jesus said,“Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven”(Matthew 19:14).
Children are the heritage of God. We are to train them in the right path as they make their way through this world. ANSWER:
When I think about what should be included in dinner prayers, a smile forms on my face. When our family shared a meal, the kids always ended the dinner prayers with, “and no tornados!” It has now become a family tradition.
Dinner prayers often include:
- Thanking God for the meal He has allowed us to have, because good things come from God. And food is one of those good things.
- Asking God to bless the hands that prepared the food.
- Asking God to bless the food to our bodies, for its nutritive and healing values.
- Close the dinner prayer by thanking Him for the gift of the food and the people around you.
- Finish with Amen, which means “so be it.”
A sample dinner prayer would be: “Thank You, Lord for blessing us with this food. We thank You for always providing for our needs. Thank you for mom who prepared this meal for us. We ask that You would bless this food to our bodies. Thank You, Father, for each person who shares this meal with us today. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.”
God has promised to provide for those who love Him. As we praise Him in dinner prayers for the food, we can pray for those less fortunate than us. Ask God to meet their needs and provide them with food.
Your dinner prayers do not need to be fancy. They can be as short as, “Thank You God for this food.” There are no hard and fast rules for praying. God is seeking sincerity and genuine thankfulness. Just tell Him what you are thankful for and He will hear you.
Thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayers.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
– We have all
sinned
and deserve God’s judgment.
God
, the Father, sent His only Son to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in Him.
Jesus
, the creator and eternal Son of God, who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that He
died
for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was
buried
, and
rose from the dead
according to the
Bible
. If you truly believe and trust this in your heart, receiving Jesus alone as your
Savior
, declaring, “
Jesus is Lord
,” you will be saved from
judgment
and spend eternity with God in heaven.
