Children are a gift – an amazing blessing from God. Every single day we may find ourselves doing a lot for our kids, loving and caring for them, nurturing, teaching, training, helping, leading, equipping, encouraging, protecting, and so much more. We spend precious hours just living out life, helping with homework, and driving them to activities. We spend money on sports, lessons, and various classes to help them grow and become all they can be, providing opportunities for them to do what they most love in this world.
But in the midst of busy, full lives, we have to ask ourselves: Are we praying? I mean, really praying specific, powerful, promise-filled, hope-inspired prayers. Are we praying God’s powerful Word and promises over their lives? I’m freshly aware, and challenged to pray more.
There’s a battle over our families today, and the enemy would love nothing more than to destroy all that we hold dear in this life. He’s ruthless and cunning, deceitful and sly. He’ll attack when we’re not watching, he’ll do everything he can to lure our kids his way. Don’t let him win.
Prayer is essential over our children and families, in order to stay alert, aware, and discerning of God’s voice, as well as to stand against the attacks of the enemy in our lives. We should never underestimate the importance of speaking blessing and truth over their lives. Prayer is powerful and his words are true.
Prayer + God’s Word = Power – the pathway for Him to do miraculous things.
Dear God,
We praise you for your love and faithfulness. We thank you for your protection and care over our families. Thank you that you give us the power to love well; the wisdom to lead and teach our children. We know you’re for us; that you fight for our families today. 3 Daily Prayers For Our Children
I pray the Lord’s prayer (aka the Disciples’ Prayer) every day on waking, but praying it specifically for our children is a great idea, because it is Biblical, simple, and, like a onesie (all-in-one garment), covers everything!
“Please provide them today with their daily needs.”
You can go on to elaborate! These might be physical, emotional, spiritual, relational.
“Please forgive them their sins, and help them to forgive those who have sinned against them.”
Job prayed in this way for his children. Our children need to know God’s forgiveness, as well as the release of being able to forgive – we can pray for this!
“Please keep them away from temptations and all the plans and schemes of the enemy.”
The enemy likes to kill, steal and destroy, but Jesus came to give us abundant life! We can pray for the Lord’s protection over our children, whether it’s worldly pleasures luring them away from walking with God, battles with their own sinful nature, or other external evil influences.
We do not pray to a God who is far away, but a God who is near, and He loves our children even more than we do, so we can pray with confidence. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. So let’s pray!
Thank you for reading – may you be blessed as you pray!

The Importance of Daily Prayer for Children & Families
November 05, 2015
Prayer is talking to God. It’s the simple opening of one’s heart to our father in Heaven. It’s coming to Him and telling Him everything in our hearts. God Himself asks us to pray. This is expressed through the Apostle Paul, who told the Christians at Ephesus. ‘Pray in the spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests…’ (Ephesians 6: 18). Prayer is powerful and can change a life. Daily prayer is important for the following reasons:

1. Prayer brings you closer to God
In any relationship, communication is the key to success. When you communicate, you are able to know more about a person. This also applies to your relationship with God. Through talking to God, we learn more about who He is. To understand our Father, we need to pray and read the Bible each day both as individuals and as a family. It’s the only way we can lead a life of intimacy with God.
2. Prayer protects
The words uttered in a prayer have wonder-working powers. Never underestimate the power of prayer. Life is full of trials and obstacles that can sometimes lead us to question faith. Pray every morning and evening, pray for your children and teach them how to pray. When you make prayer part of your life, you reinforce your faith in the face of obstacles. Even when challenges come your way, with prayer, you know that you are not alone as no weapon forged against you shall proper, as Isaiah 54:17 teaches us.
3. Prayer Heals
Jesus healed the sick while He was on earth. He gave authority to His disciples to heal. Jesus Christ has also given those who believe in him authority to heal. James 5: 14-16, talks about how prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. If you have any physical or emotional pain, then praying and reading the bible can begin the healing process.
4. Prayer brings breakthrough
If you are struggling to work through an issue, prayer can bring miracles. Open your heart to God and share your burdens. Even if the breakthrough doesn’t happen immediately, God gives you the grace and strength to keep going.
Teaching Our Children to Pray
The Bible contains many promises that we can include in both our prayers for children and daily confessions for our families. Children are gifts from God, and it’s the duty of parents to instill in them the values and characters they need to become good Christians. Here are simple ways to teach children how to pray.
1. Pray together every day
To begin with, pray with your child every day. He or she will be able to learn by example, and seeing you pray is a great example. Let your children know the importance of praying before a meal, in the morning and before bedtime. By setting a routine, your children will want to continue on their own.
2. Let them see you pray
It’s important that you pray aloud when your children are around. Whenever a situation arises that evokes prayer, take time and involve children. Children take note and will learn to use prayer in the same way.
3. Talk about prayer
From the beginning of your child’s life, teach them about prayer. Give your children simple explanation about prayer. It opens up dialogue and allows your children to ask questions.
Simple Prayers for Children
1. Before meals
Praying before meals is a good habit to teach your child to be thankful for what they have. If your children are involved in any community service, this is the perfect time to reflect on how others may find themselves in different circumstances. Many children can learn this simple prayer over meals, “God is good. Let us thank Him for our food. By his hands we are fed. Provide us with our daily bread. Amen.”
2. Bedtime prayer
Getting children on the habit of praying before bed helps them reflect on their actions for the day, and ask for guidance for the following day. Try teaching them a simple bedtime prayer such as this: “Father, thank you for your blessings today. Thank you for taking good care of me and my family. Protect us throughout the night. Amen.”
3. Morning Prayer
This simple prayer sets the tone for the day, “Dear God, as I rise this morning, I thank you for a restful night and the gift of a new day. Guide me as I walk through this day. I am grateful for all the blessings in my life. As I start my day, I trust you to guide me in everything I do. Amen.”

Prayer for Protection and Care Over Our Children
Heavenly Father, we praise you for Your love and faithfulness in all things. We thank You for your protection and care over our families. Thanks be to You for giving us wisdom and righteousness for raising our children. We confess that some days, parenting is very tough. Many days we can feel anxious, stressed or overwhelmed. We ask that You would make us more like You, more aware of your constant Presence in our lives. Help us to release our children to You, so that You are free to fully accomplish all that You desire within the hearts of our child(ren). Please fill our day to day life with Your truth, and cover us with Your favor in all things. Amen.
Prayer for Your Child’s Salvation
Father, I pray that my children will learn and understand Your holy scriptures, which are able to make them wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. I pray that Your word will fill their minds and their hearts. May they come to know that You are the way, the truth, and the light.
Prayer for Child’s Health and Healing
Lord, according to Your Word, Jesus took stripes on His body so that we could be healed. He carried our infirmities, our downfalls, and bore our sicknesses to save us, and give us life. Therefore, I ask for You to heal my child. I believe that they can and will be healed because of your miraculous power. Please comfort them, watch over them, and give me the strength to do what is best for them in their time of need. Amen.
Prayer for Your Child’s Wisdom and Learning
I come to you Father, and pray that my children are knowledgeable and skillful in all wisdom, discernment, and understanding that I know is a gift from You. I pray that they are competent to learn whatever they need to know, and that Your spirit fills them fully in all things. Lord, I know You can and You will give them the aptitude for understanding and wisdom when they are young, and when they are grown. Their foundation starts with You, and I am grateful. In Your name I pray these things, Amen.
Prayer for Your Child’s Obedience to the Lord’s Will
My gracious Lord, I pray that my children conform to Your will in every purpose, thought and action at all times. When they are faced with decisions, that they will raise their eyes to You for guidance. Life is full of uncertainty, but if they look to You in all things, I have deep faith in knowing You will lead them. I pray that they will follow Your plan for them, and always practice what is pleasing to You. May Your everlasting love fill their hearts and minds before speaking, planning or moving forward when it comes to decision making.
May they always be obedient to You in their youth, and as they grow.
Verses:
“He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.” Matthew 18:2-6
“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6
“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” Exodus 20:12
