You cannot be involved in sexual sin and at the same time be used of God.
1 Pet 1:13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
1 Pet 1:14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance;
1 Pet 1:15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,
1 Pet 1:16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”
How to fight temptation, avoid sin, and be holy
1. See sin as God sees your sin. He hates it.
2. Acknowledge your sin. Admit it.
3. Determine you will do anything to avoid the sin.
4. Repent of and forsake your sin. Ask for and accept God’s forgiveness.
5. Ask for God’s grace to prevent temptation from coming near. Trust God to work with you.
6. Ask for and accept God’s grace and the Holy Spirit’s work to overcome temptation.
7. Plan ahead of time (like police do) what you will do and how you will act when tempted.
8. Know that God ALWAYS provides an escape route, and shows it to you (1 Cor 10:13).
9. Don’t go near temptation. When you see it, run away. (Prov 4:14-15)
10. To resist it, have daily quiet times to prepare you mind for the day. And in times of temptation, praise God, sing to God, and recite memorized Scripture.
11. Don’t make excuses (like no one is perfect, God will forgive me, no one sees it, etc.).
12. You may fall to the sin again. Repent quickly (the quicker you repent, the more mature).
13. If you have repeated a sin and intend to never to do it again, mark the date, and use that as a reminder to never to it again.
14. Realize you are not free from the consequences of sin. Sin ALWAYS has consequences.
15. Once you repent, know what you are clean before God – God has removed the guilt.
16. Find someone to share your struggle with, and to ask you tough questions.
