Scripture for healing after surgery

Jehovah Rapha: The Lord, Our Healer. There are dozens of Bible verses about healing Scriptures and I have come to take solace in these over the years as my loved ones and I have battle health conditions. They have brought up comfort, hope and have built up our most holy faith to believe our Lord for a miracle!

With that said, there is a practical application to all of this. The Lord has gifted your body with the remarkable ability to heal itself under the right conditions. You need to feed it wholesome food, drink clean water and breathe pure air. Sadly, finding these things is all but impossible in our fallen world as toxic chemicals have overtaken our soil and atmosphere. In spite of our efforts (and great expense) to purchase essential products for a healthy home, we still get sick and God is here to bless you with His healing touch when you need it. The healing Scripture below testifies to that!

Cry out to Him and seek this precious gift today! Come before His throne with confidence and courage.

Scriptures for Healing – 40 Bible Verses to Read

Before I share my 40 favorite Bible verses about healing Scriptures, we need to put what God’s Word says about health into context with these two scripture passages.

  1. “Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, ‘See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.’” John 5:14
  2. “Faith without works is useless.” James 2:20

Essentially, once God does His part, we must do our part! He heals us and we maintain the healing!

Personally, I don’t view sickness as a sin issue. From what I can in the Scripture, neither does Jesus. Otherwise, why would He say this in John 9:3?

  • “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.”

The point that I think our Lord is trying to make is that, when we sin, we put ourselves in harm’s way. Reckless behavior, misuse of medicines and deliberate poor food choices (i.e. all “sins”) can and oftentimes damages our bodies and will make us more susceptible to get sick.

This is why it’s so crucial to put faith to our deeds and put deeds to our faith!

My hope and prayer is that these 40 Bible verses about healing Scriptures inspire, encourage and build up your most holy faith.  As you seek God for healing, I suggest you do your best to learn how to be healthy and make the proper abundant life-giving choices.

The Bible Verses About Healing Scriptures Challenge

As I read, and reread Bible Verses About Healing Scriptures, I am often filled with a sense of reassurance to see how the timeless principles within its pages ring true in my life.

One lesson in particular, that we reap what we sow, has all but defined my Biblical health experience and my favorite Bible verses about healing Scriptures conveys this profoundly. In its simplest form, we reap sickness because of what was sow into our bodies. Along our healing journey, we are all confronted by the same fork in the road and, we all have a choice.

No amount of prayer, no amount of meditation, and no amount of counseling can turn things around until we are willing to change. Yes, these 40 Bible Verses About Healing Scriptures are absolutely abundant life giving, but we need to also stop doing the things that are causing the damage in the first place, which then gives our bodies an opportunity to heal. At the same time, we need to learn how to take care of ourselves and regain control of our health.

Can you relate?

  • Have you pledged to regaining control of your health in a way that honors your body as the temple that it truly is?
  • Have you determined to feed your temple nutritious foods and avoid toxins that cause disease?
  • Have you committed to stop running to the pharmacy for every little thing, and have you embraced the power of using natural therapies like essential oils instead?
  • Are you committed to meditating and proclaiming these 40 Bible Verses About Healing Scriptures?

Like me, you have a choice which path you want to follow. And, now that you have learned what the Bible says about health, I trust that you will walk with me on the path toward the abundant life!

Practical Steps to Health

Now that we’ve meditated on 40 Bible verses about healing Scriptures, let’s switch gears a little and focus on giving your home a “make over” to support a new healthy lifestyle to maintain your healing!

Usually, you’ll quickly discover that you need to replace many of the staple pantry items considered unsafe like white, bleached sugar and flour. Then you’ll notice that you need new kitchen gadgets to prepare all those fresh ingredients and DIY projects on your to-do list. After you’ve made over the kitchen, you start to think about other essential products for a healthy home like body care, household cleaners, and all kinds of stuff!

Rest assured that this is completely normal, so don’t get stressed out about the transition. Take it all in baby-steps, focusing on the lowest hanging fruit. Like first trying to memorize Bible verses about healing Scriptures, as you do what’s easiest to implement at first, you’ll find that you can master the basics quite quickly. Then, next think you know, you’re picking fruit on top of the tree that you once thought was impossible to do!

This, my friend, is all part of the adventure, and our prayer is that by sharing our experience you’ll be inspired and encouraged on your own journey. See our free video tour and learn how we replaced unhealthy items in our home with healthier items.

Reading the 40 Bible verses about healing Scriptures above has convicted my family to step it up a notch and live as clean a life as possible. While our home is far from perfectly green and clean (we’re still learning to make more and more of our own products), we’re pretty proud of how far we’ve come.

Scripture Prayer

Thank you for visiting Scripture Prayer for Healing. To fully understand the principles of praying scripturally,  please read the teaching “Why Pray Scripture?” .

Hearing God: As it is rare to hear an audible voice from God, one of the most common ways God will speak to us is through His written Word and a small still voice inside us. Before reviewing the scripture references below that address what the Bible says about healing, ask the Holy Spirit for His revelation to join you. When certain verses capture your attention more than others, meditate and incorporate those into your personal daily prayer life.

Prayer for you: “Heavenly Father, we ask You to give complete knowledge of Your Will to this reader, and to give him/her Your spiritual wisdom and understanding as they seek You with all their hearts and lean not on their own understanding. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.”

Scripture Prayer for Healing

Dear Lord,

I come before You in the name of Your son, Jesus, and I thank You that you are Jehovah Rapha, the Lord, our Healer. You are the same yesterday, today, and always. I thank You for the many ways You have supernaturally provided healing – through the laying on of hands, the anointing of oil by elders, through faith in believing Your Word above our circumstances and the gifts of healing and miracles. And you have also given man Your wisdom in medicine. I ask You to show me Your way out of sickness and into health today.

Father, Jesus was always obedient to Your will and He is our example of who You are. Jesus always prayed for the sick to be healed. He told no one who desired healing that He would not heal them because they were too old, had sin in their life, or because they needed to learn something. Even when people were dead, He prayed for them to be resurrected and healed.

Thank You that You reprove, correct, and train us in righteousness through Your word. So great is Your love, compassion, and desire for us to be well and to run the race You have before us that You included physical healing in the atonement. Your plans for us are for good and not for calamity.

I thank You, Father, for the new covenant promises in Christ and that I am no longer under the curse of the law recorded in Deuteronomy 28, which includes all sicknesses. Thank you that Christ redeemed me from these curses when He paid the price for my sin on the cross. You are so righteous and just. You do not invalidate the work of the cross by putting sickness on Your children today. It is Satan who comes to kill, steal, and destroy; and sickness does all of these. I am so grateful to you Lord, Jesus Christ, who wrought so much for me when You suffered and died. You came to bring life. And now, as an heir and joint heir with Christ Jesus, my inheritance in You is the blessing of good health.

You have said, “By Jesus’ stripes, you were healed” and I thank You, Jesus, that You took those stripes for my healing. It’s already been done. Lord, I cry out for discernment. Reveal to me the things that are unseen. Continue to show me the way out of sickness and the way to health. Expose the enemy and show me how to pray and receive the blessing of healing from You.

Father, You “spoke” all things into being when You created the universe, and You said that we were created in Your image. Therefore, life and death are in the power of my tongue, too. And Jesus, You demonstrated this when You walked the earth and did miracles with the command of your words. You rebuked fever in a woman and it left, and you spoke healing to all sicknesses. You even rebuked death from people.

You took authority over the fever when you “spoke” to it. When the little boy needed deliverance and healing, You healed him and You have said, “The things that I do, you shall do also, and greater things than this.” I am created in your image and You are my example, Lord. I submit to you and I resist the enemy by speaking to him.

So I follow Your example, and I speak to this sickness in Jesus name and I say, “Sickness (disease, pain), leave my body!” I speak to my body and I say, “Body, come into line with the Word that says you were healed by Jesus stripes.” I tell the enemy who comes to kill, steal, and destroy, “You must flee! I resist you in the name of Jesus!”

You told the disciples that if they just had the faith of a grain of mustard seed that they would “speak” to the mountain and it would be removed. Forgive me for doubt and unbelief and remove it far from me, and help me to believe Your Word above what I can see and feel.

I take up the sword which is Your word. Like You, Jesus, when you were tempted, I say, “It is written!” It is written that I was healed by Jesus stripes! It is written that believers lay hands on the sick and they shall recover! It is written that God wants me to prosper and be in good health, even as my soul prospers! It is written that whatever I ask in prayer I can pray and receive it! It is written that Jesus came to bring life and life abundantly! It is written that Christ redeemed me from the curse of the law which includes all sickness! Thank You, Jesus, that You are the living word!

Now I rest in your arms, Lord. I know that it is with faith and patience that I inherit the promises. Your kingdom is at hand. I trust you to heal my body. I receive the power of the Holy Spirit to quicken my mortal flesh, and your gifts of healing to work in my body. I receive Your wisdom. Thank you, Jesus. I give you all the glory and thank You with all my heart. Your grace is truly sufficient for me.

In Your mighty name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.

scripture for healing after surgery

by Rex Rouis

Update One – (4 months) After 12 weeks of daily radiation treatment, my PSA level (prostate cancer marker) has gone from 147 (very high) to 0 (zero). For this to happen so quickly is amazing. We attacked this with everything we had – Word of God, Bible faith, personal and group prayer, a positive outlook, obedient giving, low carbohydrate diet, vitamins and supplements, radiation, and hormone therapy. I experienced very little side effects from the radiation and hormone treatments.

I am doing what I believe God wanted me to do in this, and I am definitely on course for what I was believing for. Thank you to anyone who prayed for me.

Update Two – (6 months) I just received my CT scan results and all my areas that were enlarged because of cancer are now back to normal. This is a confirmation that I am clear of material cancer. I am still on the hormone treatment to kill off (starve) cancer cells that might be floating around in my system. I am also still on the low carbohydrate diet (see, What is a Keto Diet? and What is The Ketogenic Diet?) because that also helps to starve cancer cells – cancer cells love sugar. In fact, some cancer tests (like PET scan), actually look for concentrations of sugar (fructose) because that is where the cancer will be.

Update Three – (8 months) I just received more PET and CT scan results that show that I am now back to normal. This is another confirmation that I am clear of cancer. I am still on the hormone treatment but I met with my urologist to discuss getting off the treatment. Normal treatment guidelines recommend staying on the treatment for another year or two. I am not going to do that. I believe God has told me to stay on for another six months.

Update Four – (11 months) As of yesterday I am officially off all cancer medications. I was still taking hormone depletion medication and now that can stop. This is wonderful, as I hate the effects of this. It will take 3 to 4 months for the effects to fully wear off. This is the one part of the process that was difficult for me. Changing your hormones affects all aspects of your body and thought. I gained weight and I felt weird at times. From now on, every day will a bit better than the last. They will now monitor me every few months to confirm that I am clear. However, I know in my heart that I am. Basically, it is all over. Praise God! What a journey; God was good all the way. God’s word works.

Sickness falls upon us without our choice, but we must choose, work, and fight for healing. We choose healing through prayer and by speaking His truth over our lives. Faith takes work, and healing, except in rare occasions, doesn’t just happen on its own. Faith is active and alive, and it must be acted upon. His word is truth, and His word produces faith. Speak these scriptures and this confession over your life to strengthen your faith in God for the healing you need and deserve. He paid for it; don’t let it go to waste. Don’t give up!

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13

God’s Word is medicine for our spirit, soul and body, and the way we experience its power is by speaking it out loud, praying it to God, meditating on it, and believing it. When you speak His Word over your life, it releases the power of God into your life. It won’t work for us if we just have a Bible on a shelf and leave it on a shelf. We have to use it. Use it to plant faith into your heart for healing and victory. The promises of healing in the Bible can and will heal you.

For they are life to those who find them and health to all their body.

I just found out that I have an aggressive form of prostate cancer. My PSA level (prostate cancer marker) of 147 is very high and nearly always indicates that the cancer has spread throughout the body. In my case, it had not spread, which is a miracle. It was probably due to a low carbohydrate diet that I started coincidentally at the same time the cancer probably started – in March of 2014. At that time, I had no idea that I had, or would have cancer. I started the diet to simply lose weight and feel better, which I did, but cancer loves sugar, and the diet basically starved the cancer for nine months till it was discovered. Then, when it was discovered it was, “Wow, I have cancer and I need to fight this thing with everything I can.” I doubled up on reading the Bible, listened to sermons on healing, confessed the word of God, and spent much time seeking Him on how I should approach this evil. I heard from God and the following are the scriptures and the directions I received.

Find out where your faith is, go there, and then take a stand. Don’t move from it. This is what I am believing for:

  • No long-term damage
  • No side effects from the medications or treatments
  • It will come to an end – After all this I will be cancer free
  • I will fulfill my life and destiny in Jesus Name
  • My youth is being renewed and all my parts are like new

Take all the treatments and medications that you can. Do everything you can. Fight it with everything you have.

If your faith can’t move your mouth, it won’t move your mountain.

When I am in the machine receiving a radiation treatment, I am saying out of my mouth, “This radiation is killing the cancer cells; they can’t live through this, they are dying, and my body is not damaged in any way.” Actually, it was funny because after a couple of weeks of treatment the radiation tech couldn’t stand it anymore and he had to ask who I was talking to while I was in the machine. I told him that I was talking to God, the devil, the world, and to my body. I was declaring the outcome before the outcome, that is faith. I was also visualizing in my mind all the cancer cells dying and my normal cells being restored and rejuvenated.

Confession

If you need to, make changes to the confession below to make it more real and personal to you. Faith is personal. Write down scriptures that jump out at you and take them with you.

“Wow, I have cancer and I need to fight this thing with everything I can.”

Say them all the time. Say pieces of this confession all day long. Get it into your heart and speak it out. Speak it out till it is more real to you than the cancer.

I am healed. I will live and not die. I will fulfill my destiny. I will fulfill my calling. I will live out my days in Jesus Name. My faith in God is strong. I pay no attention to my body. I am healed. I will live a good life.

I am motivated and strong. I hear the voice of God and I obey His commands. My faith is alive, working, and strong. My faith is growing faster than the cancer. I curse the cancer cells and they are dying in Jesus Name. The cancer cells are dying and my cells are being renewed every day.

Lord, I hear your voice. I have the faith to win this battle. I will win. I will overcome through faith in God. I have the victory. The treatments and medications are working and I will not have any side effects.

God’s mercy and grace is sufficient for me. His power is burning out the cancer in my body. His mercy overshadows all that I am and all that I do. Lord, I receive your mercy. I receive your healing for me.

My hope is in God and in His promises alone. I will be healed. I will be whole. God is big enough. God is faithful enough. Jesus paid the price for my healing on the Cross and I will receive it. Jesus and I will not have this healing stolen from us.

I curse this sickness and I curse its effects. I will be made whole. I will not suffer long-term damage. I will not suffer side effects from the treatments. I refuse this sickness in my body and I curse it in Jesus Name. It will come to an end.

I will be healed from this cancer. I will be cancer free in Jesus Name! I am going to live and not die. The power of God is real. It is working in my body. It is healing me. It is restoring me. The Spirit of God is killing the cancer cells. My body’s cells are strong and alive. I am alive and well. I am healthy and whole.

It does not matter what I feel like. It does not matter what my mind thinks. My heart knows that I am whole. My heart knows that I am healed in Jesus Name.

God is alive. God is real. His word is real. His word is healing me. His word will do it. I am healed in Jesus Name!

Keep speaking and believing. Do not give up. Speak your hope and your faith, and not the problem. Fight it with everything you have. You will win in Jesus Name! Our faith is the Victory!

The Spirit of God is killing the cancer cells. My body’s cells are strong and alive.

When God created the earth it was a perfect place. Then he created humans and put them in a perfect garden with everything they needed to be happy and healthy. He gave them one command: Don’t eat from that tree in the middle of the garden. Then the man and woman decided to do exactly what God told them not to do: eat from that tree. From that time humans have been suffering from the effects of sin. One of those effects is bad health. The good news is that God not only allows us to get sick, He also left us reminders of how faithful He is to heal in His time, when He wills. I am thankful that we can count on the Great Physician to heal us when we are sick. Take a look at these twelve Scriptures for healing.

Jesus Promises Healing

Jesus told His disciples that He will do as they ask. He reminds them that their Father in Heaven cares for them just as our earthly father cares for us.

Matthew 7:7-11 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”

Jesus warns that unforgiveness in a man’s heart will hinder the prayer for healing.

Mark 11:23-26 “Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”

Jesus reminds his disciples that the gift of healing was given to the Apostles as a sign to the unbeliever. Our prayers for healing will show unbelievers that our God is the Healer even today.

Mark 16:18 “And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Jesus promises that when we maintain our relationship with Him and we remember that He is the One who heals, He will do it.

John 15:7 “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”

Models for How to Pray

Jesus was speaking in His Sermon on the Mount when He gave some guidelines for how we should pray. Here is what He said to the disciples just before He taught then the Lord’s Prayer:

Matthew 6:5-8 “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.  And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”

James was writing to the twelve Jewish tribes that were scattered throughout the land. He was encouraging them to pray for one another. This is a good example of how the Church can pray for healing in a corporate way.

James 5:14-15 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.

Examples of People Who Were Healed:

Matthew 9:20-22 And behold, a woman who had suffered from a discharge of blood for twelve years came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, for she said to herself, “If I only touch his garment, I will be made well.” Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And instantly the woman was made well.

Mark 2:8-12 And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they thus questioned within themselves, said to them, “Why do you question these things in your hearts? Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise, take up your bed and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the paralytic— “I say to you, rise, pick up your bed, and go home.” And he rose and immediately picked up his bed and went out before them all, so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!”

Luke 17:11-19 On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”

John 9:1-7 As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth. And his disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him. We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” Having said these things, he spit on the ground and made mud with the saliva. Then he anointed the man’s eyes with the mud and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means Sent). So he went and washed and came back seeing.

Acts 9:40-42 But Peter put them all outside, and knelt down and prayed; and turning to the body he said, “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up. And he gave her his hand and raised her up. Then calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive. And it became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed in the Lord.

Acts 14:8-10 Now at Lystra there was a man sitting who could not use his feet. He was crippled from birth and had never walked. He listened to Paul speaking. And Paul, looking intently at him and seeing that he had faith to be made well, said in a loud voice, “Stand upright on your feet.” And he sprang up and began walking.
