Here is our collection of simple prayers. These are great prayers for children to memorize and say on a daily basis. There is no better way to start your day than with a simple christian prayer.
What makes a prayer simple? It certainly doesn’t mean that the prayer is not seen as valuable in God’s eyes.
Usually the prayer will be short, and often times it will rhyme as well. These characteristics help children, and those new to Christianity, learn how to pray. These prayers are perfect to teach to children to say on their own or as a group. These are great prayers to say in sunday school or in the class room.

Simple Prayers To Say at Night
This first prayer is a wonderful short prayer to say before bed. It is simple and easy to remember because it rhymes.
Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep
Now I lay me down to sleep;
I pray Thee, Lord, my soul to keep.
If I should die before I wake.
I pray Thee, Lord, my soul to take;
And this I ask for Jesus’ sake.
Amen.
Here is another rhyming prayer popular in Sunday schools and as a morning prayer or nightly prayer.
Jesus Lord I Pray to Thee
Jesus, Lord, to Thee I pray,
Guide and guard me through this day.
As the shepherd tends his sheep.
Lord, me safe from evil keep.
Keep my feet from every snare,
Keep me with Thy watchful care.
All my little wants supply
If I live or if I die.
And when life, O Lord, is past,
Take me to Thyself at last. Amen.
Simple Morning Prayers
Make a habit to say the prayers every morning before starting your day. Saying a prayer in the morning will help bring you closer to God, and give you strength and direction throughout your day.
Holy Jesus, Every Day
Holy Jesus, every day
Keep us in the narrow way,
And when earthly things are past,
Bring our ransomed souls at last
Where they need no star to guide.
Where no clouds Thy glory hide.
Amen
Now I awake and see the light
Now I awake and see the light;
Lord, Thou hast kept me through the night.
To Thee I lift my voice and pray
That Thou wilt keep me through the day.
If I should die before ’tis done,
O God, accept me through Thy Son!
Amen.
Simple Christian Prayers
Here are a few more simple Christian prayers you might recognize. One way to help children memorize prayers is to put it to music. This next prayer is also a popular Christian hymn.
Praise God from Whom all Blessings Flow
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host:
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Amen.
Lamb of God Prayer
Lamb of God, I look to Thee;
Thou shalt my example be;
Thou art gentle, meek, and mild,
Thou wast once a little child.
Fain I would be as Thou art:
Give me Thy obedient heart.
Thou art pitiful and kind:
Let me have Thy loving mind.
Loving Jesus, gentle Lamb,
In Thy gracious hands I am;
Make me, Savior, what Thou art,
Live Thyself within my heart.
I shall then show forth Thy praise,
Serve Thee all my happy days;
Then the world shall always see
Christ, the holy Child, in me.
Here is a nice short prayer for guidance:
Lamb of God Prayer
Direct me now, O gracious Lord,
To hear aright Thy holy Word;
Assist Thy minister to preach,
And let Thy Holy Spirit teach,
And let eternal life be found
By all who hear the joyful sound.
Amen.
Ans a short prayer for healing
Tender Jesus Meek and Mild
Tender Jesus, meek and mild,
Look on me, a little child;
Help me, if it is Thy will,
To recover from all ill.
Amen.

Help your children learn what these prayers mean and why we pray. Obviously, we can pray any time of the day, but having a set time where we teach our children to pray may help instill in them a lifetime habit of talking with the Lord.
I have attributed some of these prayers to their authors. If you know who the original author of the other prayers are, please include their names in the comments below. Or, if you know which book they originally appeared in, leave us a comment.

Father, We Thank Thee

And for the pleasant morning light; For rest and food and loving care, And all that makes the day so fair.
Help us to do the things we should,
To be to others kind and good; In all we do, in work or play, To grow more loving every day.
Rebecca Weston – 1890
Away in a Manger
Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
The little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head. The stars in the sky looked down where He lay, The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay.
The cattle are lowing, the Baby awakes,
But little Lord Jesus, no crying He makes; I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky And stay by my cradle till morning is nigh.
Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever, and love me, I pray; Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care, And fit us for Heaven to live with Thee there.
James Murry and John T. McFarland 1887
Abide With Me
Abide With Me is a song that was not written as a bedtime prayer, rather, as a farewell to this world. Henry F. Lyte was dying with tuberculosis in 1847. These beautiful words can be taught as a prayer full of great Bible teaching.
Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide. When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me.
Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day;
Earth’s joys grow dim; its glories pass away; Change and decay in all around I see; O Thou who changest not, abide with me.
Not a brief glance I beg, a passing word;
But as Thou dwell’st with Thy disciples, Lord, Familiar, condescending, patient, free. Come not to sojourn, but abide with me.
Come not in terrors, as the King of kings,
But kind and good, with healing in Thy wings, Tears for all woes, a heart for every plea, Come, Friend of sinners, and thus bide with me.
Thou on my head in early youth didst smile;
And, though rebellious and perverse meanwhile, Thou hast not left me, oft as I left Thee, On to the close, O Lord, abide with me.
I need Thy presence every passing hour.
What but Thy grace can foil the tempter’s power? Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.
I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless;
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness. Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.
Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies. Heaven’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee; In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.
Henry F. Lyte 1847

Jesus Is Lord
Dear Lord Jesus,
I come to You
as humbly
as I know how.
Thank You
for this another night.
Heal my body,
Lord Jesus
as I rest.
Renew my mind
and spirit.
Hold me in your
ever loving arms,
as I sleep tonight
and always.
Awaken me with
wise direction
for tomorrow.
Amen.

A Good Marriage
Our Father,
Who art in heaven,
before I go to sleep tonight
I must call on your name
again in prayer.
I am praying for me and my spouse.
We both need You, Lord Jesus.
Steady our household Lord.
Lately my spouse
is like a walking time bomb.
Most times if I go left
my spouse goes right.
If I say yes,
my significant other says no.
Let peace reign
in our household again Lord
Give us patience
with each other Oh God.
Restore unity and
communication between us.
Cast out all negative forces Lord.
Bring our love
and happiness back
even stronger than before.
I know with You
all will be well.
We can have
a good marriage again.
Remind my spouse
to remember it too.
Amen.

That Boss Of Mine
Most gracious Father
in all eternity,
on bended knee,
at my bedside
I come tonight to Thee.
Thank you Lord
for another evening.
Work was so hectic today.
That boss of mine,
Lord help me pray.
Bless me on my job
to be more patient with my
workforce when needed.
Jehovah Jireh,
Lord,
I pray for a peaceful nights sleep.
Awaken me refreshed,
in a happy frame of mind
to start tomorrow.
Help me Lord God
to make it a better day.
Amen.

My Stomach Hurts
Oh my God,
Help me Lord.
Once again I’ve pigged out.
I knew I was overdoing it
but I didn’t care.
I ate so much at that affair.
Now tonight I have a stomach ache.
When I thought no one was looking
I sneaked a bite or two.
When I knew someone was looking
I politely took a few.
From appetizers to entrees,
full course meals and desserts,
samples of this and that.
I guess I had it coming.
Oh my stomach hurts!
My stomach hurts so bad!
Help me go to sleep Lord.
I was happy then,
but Oh Lord,
now I’m sad.
Amen

Rich Man
Dear God,
tonight I must say,
thank You again.
Prosperity has not changed
my love and respect for You.
On the contrary,
without You all of this
would not have been possible.
My gains are your gains.
Keep me focused
daily Lord, to be even
more productive.
Give me a peaceful
rest tonight,
for this busy mind.
Heal any health issues
I may have.
Amen.

Our Father
Our Father,
Who art in heaven,
Your’s is the only name
I can always call
and know that
You will actually hear me.
Your’s is the only name
I can always call
and know that
You will actually listen.
Your’s is the only name
I can always call
and know that
You genuinely care.
Your’s is the only name
I can always call
and know that
You will always be there.
Thank You,
Our Father,
for answering my prayers.
Goodnight.
I Love You.
Amen.
