Praying for my grandma

by Eddie (Manila, Philippines)

We are now faced probably with the greatest trial that any person would never want to. Im living far away from my family but once in a while, i come home to check if everything is okay. Last week, i went home to attend a baptismal but before i go to the church, my granny and I had a talk. She was crying and cant help but grieve in front of me.

I dont wanna see her like that. She doesnt deserve all the pain. All she ever wanted is to make us happy and live in prosperity but the opposite happened. When my dad had a disease, she was forced to get a loan from a local bank and have our house as a compensation.

Also, my dad borrowed money from Aunt Nelia so he has something to use for the business. The business is now doing good and i know theyre already earning a lot enough to cover the expenses for my Aunt Mylene’s hospitalization . But it seems that my dad is apathetic of whats happening around.

My parents were blinded by gold and money to the point that they wouldnt even ask if GranMa still has something to eat and if Aunt Mylene has something to spend for her meds. Grandma was crying night after night. She never had a restful sleep and peace of mind. There’s nothind I can do. My parents are apathetic on the situation . My Grandma’s old enough to shoulder all the pain and heartaches.

Aunt Mylene is suffering from Cancer. I dont know what to do . I know God is not sleeping and whatever the reason for this trial is, I know He will not let us down. I know God is beside me and my Grandma. I love Grandma and if i can only remove the pain in her, I would do. Please pray for us.

This page is not enough to tell the whole story about whats happening on us but i know God knows everything. God, hear me please. I know i have a special place in your heart as well as my Grandma. God, hear us.

My grandmother (on my Dad’s side) is 91 years old, she has always been the stronger and healthier of my two grandmothers as my other one is younger and has Dementia and Alzheimer’s and has been deteriorating for many years, so this grandmother I sort of thought as being around for always in a way. But I got an email from my father this afternoon saying that she has a blocked up lung, due to bronchitis and she wouldn’t let them unblock it because it was really uncomfortable when they put the tube/syringe in to remove the fluid. She also has a rapid heart beat, is less coherent, can’t speak and is getting weaker. They have her on oxygen and in the email he said he didn’t know how debilitating it will be, that they were hoping to hear improvement, so I and my mother were both very positive thinking they would get her better in a few days or at least much improved.

However my sister just spoke to our father and he was quite torn up, saying about how she has gotten weaker and less coherent. He was quite torn up, said that my grandmother’s niece (who lives relatively close by, my grandmother is in Wyoming) will be going to visit tomorrow and one of his sisters will be flying down at the end of the week. If things don’t improve or get worse he will probably fly over too.

Please send your prayers, she is a fighter and has been going on strong (for the most part) for over 91 years. But now, even though she has been ill and been in hospital several times before, but it has never been as worrying as this.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers, they are very much appreciated. No more news yet, but hopefully we will have good news to share in the next couple of days. I refuse to think this is it. My parents, sister and I will be going over there in the summer, and she, my two aunts that are over there and us would be spending several days together. I hope we will still be able to see her then, it is hard living across the world from them. We do Skype and email, but it isn’t quite the same. Thank you all again. She is a very strong woman, hopefully she will fight her way through this.

Not much news re: her condition today, she is very weak still and has a couple of our cousins visiting today. But I got a message today from my parents saying that my father will fly over as soon as he can get a flight. This made me worry naturally, thinking it meant that there was very little hope for her recovery, but it is because my father has power of attorney and his sister who also has PoA is unwell and unable to travel for now. So if they need to decide on anything, be it extra care or something, he can be there for those decisions. So there is still hope! Thank you for your support and prayers everyone.

I have great news, she is slightly improved today! She even got out of bed for a little bit, so I have hope! Some relatives are with her now, my dad is flying over, I pray that she makes a full recovery, thanks be to God.

Well after days of looking like she would make a recovery and discussions and plans being laid for her return home and after care, she took a turn for the worse in the morning of the 13th (US time), then slipped away that night. Both my father and the sister who was able to be there were awake and with her when she passed.

While we didn’t get to see her that often, we were very close to her, and miss her so much. My mum said something about her passing, that I thought I would share – copied from an email she sent to my dad and his sisters: “your mother has left us in a way that reflected her life… She got everyone’s attention, she gave everyone time to make decisions, she had personal time with each of her beloved children, showed her amazing strength by rallying and then quietly and elegantly left the room… a true and amazing lady.”

She was truly amazing. They are discussing possibly having a small private internment now and then having a memorial when we go over in the summer. Then all her family and friends will be able to attend that. So I think that will be a great way to commemorate her life.

I was thinking for my wedding to get earrings she gave me years ago made into something (I don’t have, and can’t have, pierced ears), I think I will see if I can get something made before we go over so I can wear it to the memorial.
