Prayers for healing drug addiction

by Emma (Germany)

Lord, you as our creator, we trust in your name so we call for your help day and night. I have so many fears day and night, deep in my soul I cry every second of my life because of lost my son due to his extreme drug addiction for many years.I pity him a lot. If i could only embrace and tell him how much I really love and care for him as a mother, yet now he wouln’t understand it.

Lord, you know how I feel every moment I think of my son.I didn’t realise that the world can be so cruel to me as he choses drugs more than anything else in this world.I have always tried to mold him to become good boy yet things turned differently as I imagined.I hurts a lot to see my son being sick physically and mentally.

I will never stop begging for your help and for those parents who are suffering the same problem as I have.Abide us in those hard moments.Amen.

Here is a prayer to pray over anyone suffering with Drug addiction.
Some biblical scholars argue whether or not Drug addiction is of Human Nature or of Demonic nature. We aren’t going to weigh in on this argument. The fact is, no matter what causes the addiction- Freewill/Devil or both, our friends and family members need our prayers and the Lord’s help.

We ask that you pray this prayer over your loved one, inserting his or her name where prompted, and read aloud for all of creation to hear you. We have prayed over this prayer and are in agreement with you. The bible clearly states that when two or more people are present, the Holy Spirit is there and active. We have prayed for you and over this prayer and we believe the Holy Spirit will respond to your prayer and cries for help.

We say Amen to your prayer. Lets Pray:

Father God, we thank you for all of creation and we thank you for the gift of our Family, Friends and Loved ones in our lives. We thank you that we can be a blessing to them, and that they can in return can be a blessing to us when needed. We thank you for the gift of Jesus Christ, and also for the sacrifice of Jesus for all of our sins. We praise You God, Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ.

Lord, you as our creator, we trust in your name so we call for your help day and night. Lord, you know how I feel every moment when I think of (Name Here). It hurts to see (Name Here) being ill both physically and mentally from the effects of drugs.

Heavenly Father I lift up (Name Here) to you and ask for mercy to give (his/her) life back and to show (Name Here) that through Your Mercy and Grace they can live a clean life again. Help (Name Here) hit rock bottom Lord so this vicious cycle of abuse will stop. Open (Name Here)’s heart to the truth and take away the confusion of this world and remove the influence of the Devil and his Demons that might have a stronghold in (Name Here)’s life. We acknowledge that some addictions are of Human nature, but with some God, we acknowledge that the enemy is trying to destroy a person or household.

God place Your loving arms of protection around (Name Here), and surround (Name Here) with a battalion of Guardian Angels. Lord God, I believe that the Army of Heaven is greater than the Army of darkness and I believe that (Name Here) will overcome any satanic influence in their life.

Remove those enablers from (Name Here)’s life. Remove those who perpetuate the use of drugs, or have an influence on (Name here)’s life. Surround (Name Here) with only clean, good, wholesome, God fearing people who positively support them- not seek to drag them down.

Acts 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Lord Jesus, help (Name Here) to be brave and not give up. When (Name Here) is weak, lift (him/her) up. Increase their faith and allow them to know that You will be her to save (him/her) and that You have a plan for (Name Here) because You are a loving and merciful Christ and God. I pray that (Name Here) will come to You and ask for Your help, and that You WILL answer Father.

Matt 7:7-8 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

I believe You Jesus, though Your stripes can and will deliver everyone who is trapped in this living nightmare of addiction. God take away and break the addiction to prescription pills, street drugs (Name known drugs here), Alcohol and Marijuana.

Place conviction in their hearts, not condemnation, and clear a path to correction in their lives and healing through Your Love, Hope, Faith and Forgiveness and Grace. Expose (Name Here) to the calling on (his/her) life. Work thought their freewill and allow them to be real with the people in their lives, and allow (Name Here) to be real with (his/her)self.

Isaiah 53:5 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.

Lord, open (Name Here)’s heart, body, soul and spirit to let go of any other addictions in their life that could also strengthen the addiction to drugs, be it sex, anger, control, lying, shopping- whatever takes their focus from You Father God. Lord Jesus, lead them out of the darkness.

Get them the help they need to get and be with them though the process, and while they fight their freewill, allow (Name Here) to stay clean.

Acts 5:16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

I also pray that You give me peace that surpasses understanding, as I continue to try and deal with this situation. Allow the Holy Spirit to flow through me and give me wisdom and understanding. Allow the peace of Christ to come over me, and that the knowledge You Father are actively working on this. Jesus be my peace, strength and rock.

Allow us to stand up for what is right with our loved one and not enable them to continue this addiction. Let my claiming their prayer over (Name Here) be a catalyst for Your action in their life. And allow me the knowledge of when to step away and allow them to hit bottom, if that is a part of your plan for their life.

Also Father God, I ask that you be with every Father, Mother, Sister Brother, Son, Daughter, Close Family member, Friend who is crying out to you for their loved ones addiction recovery.
We acknowledge Lord that this may take time, so allow me and those praying for our loved ones, friend and family- strength and conviction to hold the course and allow you to work in Your time.

Lord we claim:

Mark 11:22-24 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

1 John 5:14-15 “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

Acts 4:29-30 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.

Thank you Father God for hearing to our petitions for our Family, Friends and Loved ones that are suffering from addictions. And thank your for hearing my petition laid before Your Throne in the Throne room of Heaven for (Name Here) my (relation to you).

I ask and believe that you are working in my and (Name Here)’s favor. This in Jesus name, the Holy Spirit and You God Almighty. Amen!

Ananda Healing Prayer Ministry

Healing of Alcoholism and Drug Use

Prayer can be of great help to people who are struggling with addictions, and it often creates a turning point in helping the addict recognize that there is a problem that needs to be addressed. Prayers for the healing of addictions, such as to alcohol or to prescribed pain medications, are answered quickly the majority of the time.

Many years ago a woman and her grown daughter visited the Expanding Light and attended a healing prayer class. The mother asked for prayers for her ex-husband, the father of the young woman, for healing of alcoholism. His problem had persisted for over 25 years and was the main reason for the divorce. Two weeks later we received an update that the man had checked himself into a treatment center, having finally admitted to himself and his family that he had a drinking problem.  What is astonishing about this story is that the man was clearly loved, but even the breakup of his family hadn’t triggered a firm resolve to overcome his alcoholism, but somehow the prayers for him had finally broken through that barrier.

If you are trying to help a person to overcome alcohol or other addiction, I would recommend a multi-faceted approach. Have some members of the family commit to saying the Divine Mother healing prayer for the person every day. They should keep this up for at least a year, for it will help the patient to develop positive qualities necessary to sustain this new direction.

  • Divine Mother Healing Prayer Technique:
  • Divine Mother, Thou art Omnipresent. Thou art in all Thy children, Thou are in _________________Manufest Thy healing presence in his/her body, mind, and soul. Then rub the hands together briskly to generate energy. Then hold up the hands and send the energy while chanting AUM three times.
  • Video of this prayer technique:

If the patient is openly ready to be healed, teach him to say this affirmation by Paramhansa Yogananda.

  • A Daily Healing Affirmation by Paramhansa Yogananda:
  • Focus deeply at the spiritual eye, the point of spiritual will, and say three times:  I will with my own will, which flows from the Divine will, to be healthy to be well, to be prosperous and spiritual, to be well, to be well.
  • Video of this affirmation:

Some patients have been helped by the book, Seven Weeks to Sobriety: The Proven Program to Fight Alcoholism through Nutrition by Joan Mathews Larson.  (You can learn more about her story at joanmathewslarson.com). People can overcome alcohol addiction without this book, but it may greatly enhance their chances for success.

Harder Drugs: A Deeper Darkness

Harder drugs, such as heroin and meth, also respond to prayer, but it takes a sustained and persistent effort. The spiritual darkness around the harder drugs is more profound, and thus it takes a continued dose of light to effect the change. Once a person is on hard drugs, there is already a history of making negative lifestyle choices. Their whole social structure may revolve around the drugs, and thus it takes something dramatic to get the person’s attention. The patient needs to be receptive, and sometimes this only comes once the person is sitting in a jail cell.

Pray for healing in body, mind, and soul

When praying for a person addicted to harder drugs, ask not only for healing of the addiction, but also for their spiritual awakening. A complete transformation is needed. This seems especially important to overcome meth addiction because 93% of those in treatment centers relapse. It takes a miracle of healing grace to overcome meth addiction.

The few cases that I do know of people who overcame meth addiction straightened out their lives by turning to God. They straightened out and had a complete change of lifestyle both inwardly and outwardly. Pray for this level of transformation for anyone facing addiction to harder drugs.

Several times I have counseled parents to bring in a small picture of Jesus or Yogananda to their teenager who was in jail facing charges for hard drugs. I told the parents to hand the picture to their teen and give them very simple instructions on how to pray for help. It can be a very simple, yet transformative, prayer from the heart, such as, Please help me to change. It has to start there. The addict is often ready for such things once they are terrified about the way their life is headed.  Some of these kids who were on meth ended up turning toward a conservative form of Christianity because they needed that much spiritual structure to stay off the drugs. This has worked well when the minister was knowledgeable on how to help addicts.

Letter of Light

Sometimes something relatively simple can have a profound effect on a person if it comes when they are receptive to healing grace.  One day a woman in the Ananda community asked me what she could do for her brother who had a serious problem with alcohol. She believed that he wanted to change, but said he felt powerless in the face of it.  She wanted to offer him something inspirational to read, but she told me that he was not interested in spiritual books.

I suggested that she send him the book, Do It Now, by Swami Kriyananda, which is now  republished as Living Wisely, Living Well, Timeless Wisdom to Enrich Every Day, by Swami Kriyananda. It is a wonderful “thought for the day” book, full of uplifting advice. I thought the short passages would be helpful for her brother. It wasn’t an overtly spiritual book, rather it advises the person on how to be the best version of yourself. We also prayed for him to be receptive to positive changes in his life.

Several months later I took seclusion in a mountain cabin near the Sierra Buttes. I loved that the cabin had no telephone. I used the time to read spiritual books, meditate deeply and take walks in the forest. One morning early I was awakened by a vivid dream in which I received a thank you note written in shining gold script, saying, “Thank you for helping me to overcome alcoholism, with the book, Do It Now.”

One can tell the nature of a dream by the quality of the light in it. The gold letters were radiant, so I knew it was a true, spiritual dream, but I didn’t write that book! How did God get the wrong address for that divine thank you note? Finally, after coming more fully awake, I recalled that I had suggested the book earlier to my friend for her brother. I realized the thank you was not for writing the book, but for inspiring his sister to give him a copy of it. The man’s heart and soul must have sent forth a feeling of gratitude, and I received it in my dream.

I’d love to hear your  inspirations and related experiences in the comments below.

Blessings to you,

Mary

Addiction is one of many illnesses that can consume an individual’s life and lead them down a path to destruction. If you are suffering from drug addiction, here is a look at some good prayers for drug addicts. These will help to encourage your recovery.

Prayer #1

Most loving God,
we ask your blessing upon all
who suffer from addiction.
Strengthen them to reach out for help.
Enable them to take the first step to recovery.
Bless them with the persistence to persevere
in the fight to be free.
Give courage and hope to their families,
drawing them close together
in the power of your love,
which alone can transform our living.
Amen.

Prayer #2

Bless this day
keep me safe and whole
kind and compassionate.

Bless my path today
Help me to act with wisdom
and live in perpetual gratitude.

Bless my human family
who are everywhere & everyone
Bless the creatures and plants
May all life be blessed on this day,
Amen.

Prayer #3

God of life, You made me in Your perfect image, to live in Your love and to give You glory, honor and praise. Open my heart to Your healing power. Come, Lord Jesus, calm my soul just as you whispered “Peace” to the stormy sea.

St. Jude, most holy Apostle, in my need I reach out to you. I beg you to intercede for me that I may find strength to overcome my illness. Bless all those who struggle with addiction. Touch them, heal them, reassure them of the Father’s constant love.

Remain at my side, St. Jude, to chase away all evil temptations, fears, and doubts. May the quiet assurance of your loving presence illuminate the darkness in my heart and bring lasting peace.
Amen.

Prayer #4

God of mercy, we bless you in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who ministered to all who come to Him. Give your strength to (name of the one I am praying for), who is bound by the chains of addiction. Enfold him/her in your love and restore him/her to freedom through your grace.

Lord, look with compassion on all those who have lost their health and have broken relationships because of their attachment to the object of their addiction. Restore to them the assurance of your unfailing mercy, and strengthen them in the work of recovery. To those who care for them, grant patient understanding and a love that perseveres.

Lord, in your servant, Venerable Matt Talbot you have given us a wonderful example of triumph over addiction, of devotion to duty, and of lifelong reverence of the Holy Sacrament. May his life of prayer and penance give (name of the one I am praying for) courage to take up his/her cross and follow in the footsteps of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Father, we ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Prayer #5

Dear God,
I come to You as I come to no one else.
I am so sorry.
I have nearly thrown away my life, my body, my soul
—through addiction.
But recognition of my addiction
has never given me power to control it.
You know this.
You never blame me.
You know the truth.

Addiction is an attractor field – a low vibrational level.
I wound up there because I was trying to escape pain,
Or I was trying to experience something transcendent,
And I got stuck.

But there is a better way to escape pain,
And there is a better way to touch rapture.
I can receive an authentic calling from You.

Therefore, I surrender myself to what I can be
—to that highest level to which You call me.
I demand, now, in this moment, Father, that You call me
—that You call me loudly.

You call me and raise me up out of addiction
—and into a higher level attractor field.

And as You raise me,
So do You raise all of Humanity out of addiction
—and into a higher level attractor field.
Together we rise, as one force in You, one at a time and together.
You raise me because I deserve a better life.
You raise me because I am ready to be raised.
You raise me because the world needs me.

I rise and keep rising; I do not fall.
I rise because You need me.
I am Your Thoughts, Your Voice, Your Hands.
I rejoice in my inherent holiness.
For I am where You reside.

You lift me because I have asked
—and because you love me so very much.

By Your grace, as I read this,
My mind and energy align with Yours.
By Your grace, the power of my mind
Is multiplied exponentially by all who read this.
Aligned with You, we are more powerful than any evil
— or any substance—
Can ever be.

Together WE form a conduit of love.
It reaches into my need for addiction and I am healed.
By healing myself, I help heal Humanity’s need for addiction.
Joy fills my soul. My gratitude is infinite.
Thank You, Beloved Creator.

And so it is.
Amen.

Prayer #6

Lord God in heaven Creator of all things.
You have all power to heal those who are struggling with the devastating disease of addiction.

We pray God you would intercede in their lives and flood their eyes with light. So they can know and understand the hope to which you have called them.

Give them strength and courage take away their fears, grief, anxieties, and resentments.
Send your word God heal them, rescue them from the pit of destruction.
Allow them to live and not die.
Heal their broken hearts and bind up their wounds curing all of their pains and sorrows.
Allow them to hear your call, allow them the grace to never ever give up and to always stay focused on you.

Fill their hearts with your word, for your word is life to all who find it and health for the whole body, mind, and spirit.
I pray these things in Jesus Holy Name.
Amen.

Here is a look at some great prayers to overcome addictions for anyone who is left struggling. If you know a loved one, friend, family member, or coworker that is suffering; seek God’s help to set them free.
