Prayers for finances that work

Lord God in heaven I come to you humbly asking you to bless me financially.  This is not hard for you to do because the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof.  You are Jehovah Jireh the God who provides and I ask you to provide for me and my family and my friends.  We are in need of your help.

Lord I ask you to show me the areas in my life where I may not have been a good steward of Your money and I ask that you would bring conviction into my heart by the power of Your Holy Spirit.  Show me the areas where I need to improve how I handle your money so that I may honor You by using what You give me in a manner that pleases You.  I pray Lord that when I receive this financial blessings that you will send me in the next few days, I will tithe to the ministry that you will call to my mind the amount which You will put in my heart.  Lord I know that You are able to supply my needs according to your glorious riches in Christ Jesus.  I know that you are the God who gives me the ability to create wealth and I make a covenant with you today that when you send me this financial blessing I will praise you for it no matter how small it may be and I will continue to serve you with a grateful heart.

Lord I ask that you would cause me to have an undivided heart and mind towards you.  No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. I know that I cannot serve both You God and Money(Luke 16:13). Forgive me if I have misplaced my worship and my focus.  Bless me this day with the blessing that you gave our forefather Abraham.  Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain (1Chronicles 4:10).  In Jesus Name. AMEN.

It’s easy to feel comfortable when we have money. These financial prayers are for when we are not so fortunate, when the dire need for money obscures our sense of well-being and spirituality, and even detracts from our appreciation of life.

The key to true abundance is to recognize, and appreciate, how much God has already given us. It is not wrong to ask for sustenance when we need it. God is always willing to hear our prayer. Lord, you are the source of all my sustenance.

Prayer for my Husband’s Work/ Finances
Several years ago, I read the book Power of a Praying Wife by Stormie Omartian. I really enjoyed the book, and typed up many of the prayers from the book so I could pray them over again for my husband, Joshua. This is the second in a blog series on Mondays this summer with prayers for husbands. I encourage you to print the prayers and pray them along with me for your own husband!

Prayer for His Work

Lord, I pray that You would bless the work of my husband’s hands. May his labor bring not only favor, success, and prosperity, but great fulfillment as well. If the work he is doing is not in line with Your perfect will for his life, reveal it to him. Show him what he should do differently and guide him down the right path. Give him strength, faith and a vision for the future so he can rise above any propensity for laziness. May he never run from work out of fear, selfishness, or a desire to avoid responsibility. On the other hand, help him to see that he doesn’t have to work himself to death for man’s approval, or grasp for gain beyond what is a gift from You. Give him the ability to enjoy his success without striving for more. Help him to excel, but free him from the pressure to do so. 

I pray that You will be Lord over his work, and may he bring You into every aspect of it. Give him enough confidence in the gifts You’ve placed in him to be able to seek, find and do good work. Open up doors of opportunity for him that no man can close. Develop his skills so that they grow more valuable with each passing year. Show me what I can do to encourage him.  I pray that his work will be established, secure, successful, satisfying, and financially rewarding. May he not be lagging in diligence, (but) fervent in spirit, serving the Lord (Romans 12:11). Let him be like a tree planted by the stream of Your living water, which brings forth fruit in due season. May he never wither under pressure, but grow strong and prosper (Psalm 1:3). Prayer for His Finances

Lord, I commit our finances to You. Be in charge of them and use them for Your purposes. May we both be good stewards of all that You give us, and walk in total agreement as to how it is to be dispersed. I pray that we will learn to live free of burdensome debt. Where we have not been wise, bring us restoration and give us guidance. Show me how I can help increase our finances and not decrease them unwisely. Help us to remember that all we have belongs to You, and to be grateful for it. 

I pray that (Joshua) will find it easy to give to You and to others as you have instructed in Your word. Give him wisdom to handle money wisely. Help him make good decisions as to how he spends. Show him how to plan for the future. I pray that he will find the perfect balance between spending needlessly and being miserly. May he always be paid well for the work he does, and may his money not be stolen, lost, devoured, destroyed or wasted. Multiply it so that what he makes will go a long way. I pray that he will not be anxious about finances, but will seek Your wisdom first, knowing that as he does, we will have all we need (Luke 12:31)

Secret #1: God really does hear and answer prayer.

Yes, God answers prayer. As true believers in Christ, when we come through Him alone, our prayers are heard. Prayer is powerful, and prayer works!

Scripture:

1 John 5:14–15 “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.“

Hebrews 4:16 “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.“

If you come to God the Father through Christ, then you are openly invited by Him, to offer your prayer for financial breakthrough, or for whatever else you need His help and mercy for.

We serve a living God that desires to bless those that belong to Him. Be assured that your prayers are heard by the Lord. He already knows your situation, and he already has the answer.

Secret #2: God doesn’t always answer the way you want Him to.

Well here is the kicker, right? Often times when Christians come to the Lord with a prayer for financial breakthrough, or anything else, they want God to answer THEIR way. If God’s plan, violates their expectations, then they don’t recognize it as God’s answer.

It is imperative that you understand this point. If you are praying for something, and asking the Lord to answer your prayer, then scripture teaches us that we have to pray “according to HIS will”. This matters because of the unity and agreement that we need with the Lord.

Scripture:

1 John 5:14 “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us:“

Praying according to His will means surrendering your own. God is not a puppet that can be controlled. He is not a genie in a lamp that is there to give you your three wishes. He is GOD.

If you are sincerely praying for a financial breakthrough, then you will truly want God’s will to be done in the situation. This is where things can get a little dicey for the Christian.

What if God’s answer is to let things play out according to the Spiritual Law of the Harvest?

The Spiritual Law of the Harvest is:

1. You Reap What You Sow.
2. You Reap Later Than You Sow.
3. You Reap More Than You Sow.

So often our financial troubles are a result of our own bad financial behavior. How should God respond to that?

Are you a responsible steward of your finances? Are you a generous financial giver to the Lord through your local church? By the way, a generous giver means “beyond the average giver.”

A Quick Point About Tithing to Your Local Church –

Many times I have heard some Christians say something like, “well, tithing is not a New Testament Christian practice. Nowhere in the Bible do we see that Jesus or the disciples gave a tithe at all. So it’s not biblical“. Have you heard that?

So, what is the New Testament model and measure of giving? JESUS GAVE IT ALL, AND SO DID ALL OF HIS DISCIPLES! Financially, physically, spiritually….they literally gave it ALL!

So, if you are going to make an issue here, about tithing, and giving generously to the Lord, you might want to rethink your prayer for financial breakthrough.

God doesn’t always answer the way you want Him to. There are biblical financial factors that will always play into the situation, but we will have to save that for another article at another time.

Secret #3: The answer to your prayer might be internal.

Scripture:

1 Timothy 6:6–8 “But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.”

Are you praying for a financial breakthrough because you aren’t truly content with where the Lord has you right now? Is it possible that this prayer might be for the wrong reasons?

(If you are going through an unexpected financial crisis that is no fault of your own, then this may not apply to you at this time.)

For everyone else, contentment is a HUGE factor in the Bible. What are we telling God when we aren’t content with what he is providing for us? That He is wrong? That He is making a mistake? That He is mistreating you?

Godliness with contentment is great gain. If the financial problems that you are experiencing are due to an internal discontentment, then the Lord may answer your prayer in an unconventional way.

Perhaps the remedy is to turn up the heat and let you sweat it out until you are purified of discontentment, covetousness, greed, and sense of entitlement. I’m not saying this is the case, but if the shoe fits you know the drill.

Secret #4: There may be deeper spiritual issues that are a higher priority.

Usually, a financial crisis will bring out whatever is inside of you. Like a tea bag that is put in hot water, financial pressure can reveal deeper spiritual issues. It can reveal issues of faith, dependence upon God, and self-sufficiency.

Deep spiritual issues can only be drawn out by hard trials that bring them to the surface.

Is it possible that you have been praying for God to do something else, like draw you closer to Him, or bring revival into your life? Perhaps this financial trouble is actually something that God sent your direction to answer those prayers.

If your financial crisis is revealing some deeper spiritual issues for you, or maybe for someone else in your family, then that might need to be dealt with as a priority, before this financial storm can pass.

There may be deeper spiritual issues that are a higher priority.

Secret #5: Sometimes the answer is no.

When you are praying for anything, the reality is that God can say yes, or God can say no. God is sovereign and will do His will, regardless of what we pray.

There are many reasons beyond our understanding that the Lord allows things to come into our lives.

We cannot always see those reasons, but we can trust God by faith. Right? In other words, the answer may be no, and we have to accept that.

Scripture:

Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.“

There may simply be a purpose in all of your financial problems that you cannot see or identify. Have you been praying for God to have His will and way in your life? Is it possible that there are some great results that God is accomplishing, and this is the only way to get you there? Sure, that is a real possibility.

So when you are praying for a financial breakthrough, keep in mind that the breakthrough will happen if and when God is ready. Not when you pray hard enough, often enough, or serious enough.

Sometimes we are praying for God to calm the storm but should be praying for God to calm us, in the storm.

Secret #6: God loves a cheerful giver.

Have you ever noticed that cheerful givers always seem to have abundance? I’m not saying they are rich, but they always seem to have their needs met, and they tend to be the happiest people around.

Cheerful givers are biblical givers, and it is highly likely that God just trusts them with more abundance, because He knows what they will do with it.

Money does ruin people. Just as a financial crisis can reveal a lot about people, so can a sudden financial windfall. When all of a sudden they don’t need God anymore, they get on the party bus and head for sin city.

Scripture:

2 Corinthians 9:7 “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.“

The secret here is to bless someone else. When you are having a pity party, get your eyes on someone else’s problem, and see how you can bless them. Give!

Not all giving is financial. Yes, it holds true financially (and is the exact context of 2 Cor. 9:7) but you can give in other ways too. The key here is that you should do it cheerfully, and consistently. God sees right through insincerity.

No matter what situation you are in, you can decide to be a cheerful giver. Not only now, but from now on.

Secret #7: Pray hard, Work harder.

The idea of “waiting on the Lord” does not mean to sit and do nothing while God works it all out. The concept is that you live obediently to the Lord, and continue to do what you know is right, and trust the Lord to make a way when the time is right.

If you have found yourself in a self-made financial crisis, then there are several things that we recommend you do.

3 Steps:

1. Pray hard that the Lord will help you to change your bad financial habits.
2. Work hard to change your situation, nobody else will do that for you.
3. Educate yourself and make a plan to turn things around.

There is always hope! You are not trapped, there is always a way out. Many people in worse financial messes than you, have gone through it. Therefore, you are not alone.

Finally, the prayer for financial breakthrough goes much deeper than you may have thought before you read this article. However, it is our sincere hope that you have been helped by it, and want to encourage you, that it CAN be done.
