A Prayer for Men

Scripture Reading:

Exodus 15:2-18, II Kings 18:1-7

Reflections of the Heart:

God loves men and He wired them for success.  The enemy has been disrupting God’s preferred plans for our men through a strategy to steal, kill and destroy them.  Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams noted, “Life is not fair; we only get what we are willing to fight for!”  By praying for our men, boys and families we are positioned to “Fight to Win!”  God used a man to redeem humankind and He continues to empower men to lead and conquer.

Scriptural Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Your majestic Name fills the earth!  Your glory is higher than the heavens. May Your glorious Name be praised!  May it be exalted above all blessing and praise!  You are great and most worthy of praise!  No one can measure Your greatness.  Thank You, Father, for our men.  Lord, we thank You for equipping our men to take their rightful place in You.  Thank You for the men and boys who will join the body of Christ and glorify Your Name.  Thank You, God, for restoration, reconciliation and healing in our families and communities.  Thank You, for giving us everything we need to live a godly life.

Father, let Your Kingdom come and Your will be done in the lives of our men on earth as it is in heaven.  By faith, we call our men saved, sanctified, and filled with Your Spirit.  Your Word instructs that faithwithout works is dead and useless, so we confess that our men will work to develop and demonstrate their Christian faith, daily.  We declare that they will be priestly providers and protectors of their families.  We confess that as they submit to Your Word, they will be transformed into new people by changing the way they think.  Lord, we decree that their belief systems and behavior patterns will reflect Your righteousness in their personal and professional lives.  We declare that the light of Jesus will be reflected by their actions.  As they fellowshipwith one another; others will see their good works and praise You, our Father in heaven.  Lord, we confess that Your favorsurrounds them like a shield.  We confess that they will earn, save, spend and invest money in obedience to Your perfect plan for their lives and families. We declare that their finances are blessed and they are lenders, not borrowers.  Lord, because we realize that the food we put in our bodies can impact our mental, emotional, physical and spiritual capabilities, we declare that our men will practice healthy eating practices.  Above all, we confess that they are victorious in everything they do, because Your future for them is filled with hope, good and not evil.

Lord, we ask that You touch the hearts of our congregation to pray for the men and boys of this local assembly.  Holy Spirit, please empower us all to stand against society’s systems and structures that result in ten percent of all pre-school boys being suspended.  Holy Spirit, studies show that ninety percent of all “behavioral problems” in public schools are linked to boys.  Please touch the hearts of fathers (and mothers) to teach their children Your godly principles.

Father, forgive our men for sins of disobedience, selfishness, lying, pornography, fornication, adultery and for not accepting the responsibility for leadership within their families and the church.  Forgive our boys for rebellion, selfishness and for accepting the negative labels placed on them by the world.  Forgive our wives and mothers for being complacent. Lord, please help the men, women, boys and girls in our congregation to forgive past hurts caused by family members and loved ones.  Father, heal emotional wounds caused by these hurts.  Lord, remind all of us to forgive others and help us to forgive.

Lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from the evil one.

Lord, we praise Your Name.  Your Name is very great; Your glory towers over the earth and heaven. You are worthy, Lord, to receive glory, honor and power.  You created all things and they exist because You created what You pleased.  You are Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

I thoroughly enjoy Church services in the beginning of a new year. Every year I go to Revival at my church for three nights and it is such a filling, gratifying, intense, humbling experience to see women and men of God in one place, desperately seeking God’s Face and Hand.

People are often crying and sprawled out on the floor because they are in such need.

What those needs are? Only they and God know.

I’ve been there too. Some Revivals, it was a desperate need to change my health and mind. 

One year, it was to help me get out of a destructive and secret relationship. Other years, it was to change my finances and my family. The next year, I desperately needed God to lead me to a Publisher because I had a message yet was bombarded with rejection letter after rejection letter. It just seemed like every year there was that thing that I specifically needed God to do on my behalf, through His Power.

But this year, was different. I felt content, satisfied, well and nourished in various areas, in this season of my life and gratefully so.

“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”(Philippians 4:12). 

Of course I need God every single moment and this new year will bring challenges unbeknownst to me at this present moment but overall there was no overt longing in me–not on the surface at least.

Unlike years prior, the one and only request on my heart, I felt timid to tell God about (though He already knows). It felt shallow. It felt not important or dire enough. It felt less significant than my other desperate prayer requests.

But my heart kept echoing in church,…

“ God, all I want is to be a good wife to a good Godly man . “

“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)

And so I didn’t boldly come to His throne with my request, as He desires for me to. I casually prayed. I suppose I casually prayed because somehow my faith had withered in this area of my life. As I am just a couple years shy of 30, I suppose I began to listen to the whispers of society and the enemy, saying “your time is ticking.” Therefore, I continued praying for other things and for other people, particularly my family, but failed to pray for the family that I long to birth.

I was speaking to my closest, Christian sister-friend and I casually told her how I was feeling. Earlier that day, she had sent me a moving article which spoke about not merely praying for momentarily afflictions but to pray for more eternal things.

I told her I felt silly for praying for a man. It seems so cliched and it didn’t seem very eternal.

And she abruptly told me: “it’s not silly, I hope your future man is praying for you too!”

Somehow, as He often does, God used her to reinvigorate my faith and to remind me that He hears me. And it dawned on me that sharing Godly love with a spouse and raising and parenting Children in God’s way, is truly of The Divine. That truly is of the eternal.

One of the tactics of the enemy is to deceive. It is to make us believe that certain matters of our hearts don’t truly matter to God. But we know God longs to give us the desires of our hearts (Psalm 20:4).

Furthermore, the enemy certainly wants us to not be prayerful about the love that we invite into our lives. If we keep God out of our relationships and selections and hopes, surely they will all fail. Therefore, I am boldly stepping to the Throne of Grace with Confidence as I lift up this prayer, I implore you to the do the same:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being a God that cares about every single huge and tiny desire that is on my heart.

This year, I am believing that You are working in me and in my spouse. This year God, I pray that You divinely orchestrate events that will allow me to meet the person that You have for me. Give me the wisdom and courage to properly position myself in places that honor my request; help me to move beyond my comfort zone. God, I am praying for a good, faithful man after Your Heart.

I pray that He aspires to love me like You do. Send me to the man who is already praying for me. Help my faith in my season of waiting.

I thank You in advance for all that You have for me in this New Year. I put the statistics aside, and I choose to believe in You.

Hello friends, I have been praying incessantly for a man to come into my life who shares my passion for Christ. I have been in abusive relationships and I am ready to give up on dating. I am commited to save myself for marriage this time, and deal with myself in a self respecting and Christian way.

I am praying that I will not be tempted to submit or settle until the man God has preordained for me has shown up. I pray he comes soon because I am suffering from great loneliness. It is my desire to be married and have children. I recently started attending a new church and I believe God is playing matchmaker.

There is a man my age that I fell in love with the first time I met him. I am praying that we will have an opportunity to initiate a friendship based on common interests, and that relationship will be fostered and healthily grow in Christ.

Please pray for me as this is the deepest desire of my heart. I’d rather die than live without him and Christ knows this. I can’t bear to be hurt even one more time.

There are many choices and sometimes I fall short. Give me guidance as I strive to be the leader You want me to be in my home, at my place of employment, and in the community in which I live. Prayers for Husbands God, thank You for my wife. She is a gift from You. Help me to be quick to forgive, ready to encourage, and always available to her. Give me guidance as I seek to meet her needs and be her leader. Help me be faithful to her in my mind, thoughts, and heart. Keep us focused on You as we go through trials and times of conflict.
