Prayer of surrender

PRAYER OF SURRENDER

(Pray this prayer when you are ready to experience intimacy with God, and hunger for a deeper relationship with Him. When you are ready  to understand fully His purpose and plan for you, the reason for your mere existence, surrender to Him, pour out all your heart and soul to Him in an act of  giving all up to Him. It’s okay to ask Him to help you to do it.)

“….may Your will be done” (Matthew 26:42),

Loving Father, I surrender to You today with all my heart and soul.  Please come into my heart in a deeper way.  I say “Yes” to You today.  I open all the secret places in my heart to you and say, “Come on in.”  Jesus, You are Lord of my whole life.  I believe in You and receive You as my Lord and Savior.  I hold nothing back.  Holy Spirit, bring me deeper conversion to the person of Jesus Christ.  I surrender all to you: my health, my family, my resources, occupation, skills, relationships, time management, successes and failures.  I release it, and let it go.  I surrender my understanding of how things out to be; my choices and my will.  I surrender to You the promises I have kept and the promises I have failed to keep.  I surrender my weaknesses and strengths to You.  I surrender my emotions, my fears, my insecurities, my everything.  I surrender _____________, ______________________, _______________________, _____________________. (Continue to surrender other areas as the Holy Spirit reveals them to you).  Lord, I surrender my entire life to You, the past, the present and the future.  In sickness and in health, in life and in death, I belong to You.

“Take, Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, and my entire will, all that I have and possess.  You have given all of me.  To you, O Lord, and I return it.  All is Yours.  Dispose of it wholly according to Your will.  Give me Your Love and Your grace, for this is sufficient for me.”

Nothing aligns my heart with God’s like praying the Scriptures.

The acts of inhaling His words and exhaling them back to Him remind me that He is worthy of my all.

Everything I am, everything I have, every blessing I lay claim to…

is His.

Every single, last bit of it.

It’s one of those absolutes that’s true whether I realize it or not.

Whether I acknowledge it or not.

And whether I like it or not.

I never really understood what “surrender” was (spiritually speaking) until just a couple of years ago, during a season of trial in my life.

My husband received the dreaded cancer diagnosis.

And then he lost his job.

As I look back, it’s fascinating to me that God taught me so much about surrender during a time when I actually hadn’t surrendered anything.

We sure didn’t give up my husband’s health voluntarily.

And we didn’t choose to give up my husband’s job.

Both were taken from us.

But the really amazing thing is that when we accepted this truth, bowing our knee to Him as our Master and choosing to live like He’s in charge, He poured out even greater blessings.

I’m learning that surrender isn’t a once-and-for-all kind of proposition. It’s not a one-time deal.

At least it hasn’t been for me.

I have to keep on surrendering. Keep on bowing the knee. And keep on choosing to live like He’s in charge.

Because He really is.

If you realize the truth of what I’m sharing, and you see in your heart the need to yield anew, will you join me in lifting a prayer of surrender to our Lord?

Prayer of Surrender

Ask God for His mercy to enable you to present your body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship (Romans 12:1).

Confess to the Lord that you don’t have the understanding or the authority to direct your own steps (Jeremiah 10:23). Pray that He would help you look to Him as your Master.

Pray for God’s daily grace to deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Jesus. Acknowledge to Him that whoever wants to save her life at all costs will lose it, but whoever loses her life for Jesus’ sake will save it (Luke 9:23-24). Share with Jesus that you won’t withhold anything – including your very life – from Him.

prayer of surrender

Echo Jesus’ own prayer before His crucifixion: “Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what You will.” (Mark 14:34-35). Consider what aspects of God’s will you’ve been resisting, what “cup” you’ve been refusing.

Share with God your desire to humble yourself under His mighty hand, trusting that when the time is right, He will exalt you (I Peter 5:6).

Acknowledge to Jesus that He is the true vine, and His Father is the vinedresser. Tell Him that He has the right to take away every branch in Him that does not bear fruit, and to prune every branch that does bear fruit, that it may bear more fruit. Pray that God would teach you to abide in Christ, and Christ in you. Confess that as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Jesus. Claim the promise that whoever abides in Jesus and Jesus in him will bear much fruit, for apart from Him you can do nothing (John 15:1-7).

Ponder the truth that you are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Share with God your desire to glorify Him in your body, as it belongs to Him (I Corinthians 6:20).

Confess to the Lord that all of your material and non-material blessings are gifts meant to be stewarded well, with the intention of multiplying them for the Master. Ask that the Lord would mold you into a faithful servant, and not a worthless one (Matthew 25:14-30).

Praise the Lord that the earth is His, along with everything in it, the world and all who dwell here (Psalm 24:1). Ask Him to impress this truth on your heart, and to help you live accordingly.

Contemplate God’s promise to bless Abraham so that he would be a blessing (Genesis 12:2). Pray that God would show you how He wants to apply this in your own life.

Dear Heavenly Father, Creator of the heavens and the earth, the skies and the seas, and everything in them, You are worthy of all glory, honor, dominion, and strength. You have every right to call the shots in my life, and in the world. I thank You for the peace that comes with accepting that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men. I know unequivocally that I can trust Your infinite goodness, wisdom, and holiness. Please help me to hold my blessings with open hands, not hoarding them for myself, but willing to give them back, to share them, and to use them on behalf of Your glory, as You so lead. It’s in the name of my Savior, Jesus Christ, that I pray. Amen.

A Resource for Surrender

Is there a particular area in which God is calling you to surrender? Do you find yourself struggling to implement the changes He is calling you to make? That might just be because you’re missing an important aspect of true surrender. This resource will teach you what you’re missing, step-by-step:

prayer of surrender

Along with surrendered prayers, our Lord delights in honest ones. I think you’ll be encouraged by my friend Holly’s post on Prayers of Honesty.

This prayer is written on the wall near the entrance to the Western Canteen in Prasanthi Nilayam. It is not a prayer but, instead, instructions on how to surrender.

It is attributed to Sathya Sai Baba, but the source is unknown —it has not been found in a discourse or the Vahinis.

Why get agitated? Let Me take care of all your business. I shall be the one who will think about them. I am waiting for nothing else than your surrender to Me, and then you do not have to worry any more about anything. Say farewell to all fears and discouragement.

You demonstrate that you do not trust Me. On the contrary, you must rely blindly on Me.

To surrender means: To turn your thoughts away from troubles, to turn them away from difficulties that you encounter and from all your problems. Leave everything in My hands saying, “Lord, Thy will be done. Thou think of it.” That is to say, “Lord, I thank you, for you have taken everything into your hands, and you will resolve this for my highest good.”

Remember that thinking of the consequences of a thing is contrary to surrender. That is to say, when you worry that a situation has not had the desired outcome, you demonstrate that you do not believe in My love for you —you prove that you do not consider your life to be under My control and that nothing escapes Me.

Never think: How is this to end?… What is going to happen? If you give into this temptation, you demonstrate that you do not trust Me. Do you want Me to deal with it — yes or no? Then you must stop being anxious about it! I shall guide you only if you completely surrender to Me. And when I must lead you on a different path than the one that you expect, I carry you in My arms.

What seriously upsets you is your reasoning, your worrying, your obsession, and your will to provide for yourself at any price. I can do so many things when the being, in his material necessities as in his spiritual ones, turns to Me saying, “You think of it,” and then closes his eyes and rests quietly.

You will receive a lot, but only when your prayer relies fully upon Me. You pray to Me when in pain so that I intervene, but in the way you desire it. You do not rely on Me, but you want Me to adjust to your requests.

Don’t behave like sick ones who ask for a treatment from the doctor, all the time suggesting it to him. Do not do that, but rather, even in sad circumstances, say, “Lord I praise and thank You for this problem, for this necessity. I pray You to arrange things as You please for this terrestrial, temporal life. You know very well what is best for me.”

Sometimes, you feel that disasters increase instead of diminish. Do not get agitated. Close your eyes and tell me with faith, “Thy will be done. You think of it.” And when you speak thus, I accomplish a miracle when necessary. I think of it only when you trust me totally. I always think of you, but I can help you completely only when you rely fully on Me.

Heavenly Father, I kneel before Your throne of grace and mercy, surrendering my all to You. I surrender my burdens, my worries and my fears. I lift up before You my loved ones, my job and my finances. I release them into Your hands, Father. Please draw near as I cry out in desperation. Reign down, Oh Lord, relieve me of my pain and suffering, ease my troubled heart. Savior, save me from the misfortunes of this world and just take control.

Romans 12:1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me

Father, I humbly ask for intimacy with You, for in You alone I am guaranteed love, joy, peace and happiness. I long to feel Your heartbeat, I yearn to hear Your voice, I crave Your Holy presence and I thirst to know You more.  None can compare to Your glory, none can measure what You are worth and nothing in this world can compare to the promise I have in You.

James 4:7 – Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Romans 12:2 – And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

El Elohim, as I decrease and You increase, the stresses of my trials will surely fade, my burdens will vanish, my worries will be no more and fear will flee at the the sound of Your great name. With You at my side, strength will surely emerge. I will soar high with the eagles and be elevated into victory as I surrender my all to You, in Jesus mighty name I pray, Amen!

Romans 12:1 – I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, your reasonable service.

Psalms 50:15 – And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.
