Prayer for the love of my life

by Cara (US)

I found the love of my life-I have shared my most happy and sacred memories and moments with him. I would not trade those times for anything in the world.

I found the person who saved me, who made me laugh, who with one smile or wink made me melt, when he held me I felt like there was no one in the world but us two, I fell in love with him more and more each and every single day to the point where sometimes I thought my heart would explode.
I made an honest to God mistake when entirely too many drinks were involved – I became a person whom I didnt even know existed inside of me – I lost all sense of memory from my overdoing it – never been so scared because I didn’t know that it was possible to do something so terrible and not be able to remember it – I am not sure why – or how – I kissed another man in front of my boyfriend, my soulmate – this other man was his best friend – I dont know if in my state I thought it was my boyfriend? I just dont know – it is so out of character for me – I dont even look at other men, I dont see myself with anyone else, I would never want to..
I betrayed his trust in me, I betrayed my trust in myself…It will be a long road to recovery for both my boyfriend and I – I have been praying to God for strength for us both, for forgiveness for what I have done, for courage to face all that have in a sense “crucified” me for my mistake, and for the self control to never take drinking that far again.
I ask that anyone who is willing please help me pray, please help the Lord mend both of our broken hearts, please let us go back to where we once were, and please help me to find some peace of mind in the damage I have caused upon both of us.

Every day on my way home from work when I passed by my church, I would say a prayer untilI reached home – not a day went by (before all of this) where I didnt take the time to thank God for bringing my boyfriend into my life, for making me the happiest woman in the world…in a way, I also feel like I betrayed God a little bit too..
Please help me pray to God for his forgiveness as well.

God Bless.

A prayer for love has to be something you do no a regular basis. Love and relationships are one of the most important aspects of our lives, because our relationships will either lift us up, or tear us down.

Yet praying for love tends to be something that we don’t often do. Maybe we’re afraid to go to God with our love life. Maybe we’re getting discouraged that our prayers aren’t being answered. Or maybe, just maybe, we don’t know how to pray for love.

Prayer For Love Vs. Worry About Love

It took me a while to grasp how to pray for love. Because I’ve always had a tendency to think about love, and worry about love, rather than pray about it.

I’m quick to analyze, figure out, and try to put the pieces together. But it takes me a while to turn to prayer.

I’m realizing that my tendency to over-analyze is the opposite of what God’s word tells me to do.  All through Scripture Jesus is challenging us: Don’t just dwell on things, pray about them.

Prayer is the act by which we mentally hand over our problems, concerns, fears, desires, and dreams to someone who actually has the power to control.

And it makes so much sense, because if we’re going to allow these things to fill our brain, we are better off doing it in a way that has the power to impact the things that are weighing us down, rather than simply allowing them to consume us.

If you find yourself consumed by your love life – or lackthereof, here are some ways to mentally and prayerfully hand those things to the One who can actually do something about it. Here are 8 ways to pray for love.

Pray Like This: 8 Prayers For Love

#1: Pray that God would give you a relationship (Matthew 7:7)!

God’s word challenges us to ask and bring our needs before God.  Anything and everything. As long as our hearts are aligned with His, there are no limits on what we can ask.  What are your deepest needs and desires when it comes to a relationship? What do you need God to do in your relationship? Let Him know.

#2: Pray that He would grant you patience and insight to wait for a good one (Isaiah 40:31).

Waiting on God is never easy, because once again, it is a reminder that we are not in control.  But through the time of waiting, ask God to change you, nourish you, and fill you so that you are empowered and prepared to take the next steps when the timing is right.

#3: Pray that He would be working out anything unhealthy in your life (Jeremiah 33:8).

Some of our baggage and sin we can recognize, and some we can’t.  As you seek to enhance your love life, be sure to ask God to help you recognize and heal all the things in your life that aren’t lining up with His best.  Seek to get to the bottom of your sins, and ask for His healing power to be at work in your life.

#4: Pray that He would shape your heart for nourishing interactions with others (Colossians 3:12-14).

It’s important to learn how to love, rather than simply longing to be loved.  When your heart is open to loving and edifying others the way it was meant to, your relationships will be enriched and empowered.

#5: Pray that He would bring healing into your past so that you are free to embrace the present (Philippians 3:13-14).

We are called to move forward, and forget what is behind.  Sometimes, it’s easy to get stuck on our past and be paralyzed from living in the present.  No matter what kinds of things your past may hold, ask God to be at work in your past so that you are free to live in the moment and embrace your present.

#6: Pray that He would protect your emotional world and give you wisdom of how to set healthy boundaries (Proverbs 4:23).

I talk a lot about guarding our hearts and how to practically do that, but how often do we actually pray about our hearts and emotional worlds?  God longs to be a part of our emotions just as much as our spiritual life. He is a holistic God, who longs to interact with our mind, body, and soul.  Give Him a chance by opening your emotional life to Him through prayer.

#7: Pray that He would open your eyes to the joy of doing sex His way (Hebrews 13:4).

It’s so easy to focus on what we can’t do before marriage, and end up harboring bitterness and resentment.  But what if we were to ask God to open our eyes to doing life His way? What if we were to plead with Him to download His heart onto ours, so that we could truly understand what is best for our lives?  Rather than struggling with His plan, let’s ask Him to reveal His heart to ours, particularly in the area of sex and sexuality, so that we can be freed to trust Him without bitterness or regret. (More on this in Chapter 8 of True Love Dates)

#8: Pray that God would be the focus of your life now and forever (Psalm 37:4).

At the end of the day, no matter how we view it, there is no gift that is greater than the Giver.   Whether we feel that or not, it doesn’t cease to be true. May we continue to bring this request before God, so that He can turn our hearts to Him as our greatest delight and desire, because perspective has the power to change everything.

This week, rather than focus on your problems, worries, or what you don’t yet have, focus on what you do have: a direct line to the One who controls all things, including your precious heart.  It’s time to actually do some real work in the area of our love life and relationships instead of wasting our mental energy away.  It’s time to pray for love.

Do you feel like your relationship is in trouble? Perhaps your better half has left, your marriage is on the rocks, or you simply feel out of place with the person you are with. You value the relationship that you have with your husband or wife, and you honor and respect the vows that you took in front of God and witnesses. Despite the best of intentions, there are times when even the most perfect relationship has problems and issues. It is common for a member of the relationship to run-away from those problems, or refuse to face them by trying to leave the relationship and the home you’ve made together. Do not despair, there is hope, you just have to find faith and encouragement from our gracious Lord above.

Prayer can repair the most damaged marriage. The power of God can bring two people, who are intended to be together, back into a love filled marriage. Your union will know the love from the blessings of God if you keep your eyes on Him in all things. Through prayer, anything is possible. God is all-powerful and all-knowing, He can mend any bridges that may have been burned by conflict, clear away any confusion, and give you the power to forgive when needed most. If your relationship is in need of a blessing and you have nowhere to turn, always consider the power of prayer. God is always there to listen, and his followers on earth are always ready to assist in having your prayer requests heard.

“And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32

Make us compatible again, and bring us closer together as we were before. May my heart be open and my head be clear. May my life be ready to welcome True love. May I be embraced in a circle of your love An uplifted by your grace. And so it is.

Prayer for a Marriage In Need

My heart cries out to You, my Maker of Heaven and of Earth! Please bring healing to our broken hearts, bring restoration to our relationship, ignite lost passion, and inspire forgotten intimacy. Prayer for a Lost Love/Partner

Precious Savior, please pray that my heart’s desire be granted, and the return of the love of my life would come to fruition. I pray that my spouse/partner may have healed his/her wounds from the past, and forgiven all that has gone wrong between the two of us. Lord, help my lost love be able to follow his/her heart to their desire and love me for me. I ask that we be forever reconciled as one, from this day forward.

Prayer for a Friends’ Troubled Marriage/Relationship

Heavenly Father, I come before you and lay this troubled marriage/relationship in your hands. I ask that you would revive this couple, and draw them toward happiness shared together. I ask that you would renew their love and passion for one another, and that you would untangle the conflicts and strife that has damaged and angered them towards one another. Please bring understanding and tenderness of heart to both of them. May they both embrace the miracle that you desire to do for them, and within their spirits. Amen.

Prayer for Financial Peace In Marriage

I lift up my heart to You today, my precious Lord. Please help us to rely on You more in our marriage when it comes to our finances. We can be easily distracted by the amount of money in our bank account, or even by the jobs we currently have. Help us not to trust in the matter of money itself, but more importantly, trust in Your economy and Your word. May Your Holy Spirit fill us with wisdom in how to manage our finances, give us generous hearts to give to those in need, and teach us to not worry about money so much. I pray that we would live with understanding for what the other person is going through, and that we are thoughtful in our words and actions. Amen.

Lord God Almighty, the path You have set before me is a long and narrow one. There are bridges to burn, mountains to climb and oceans to cross.

I know it’s not going to be easy. But, Lord, the toughest roads lead to the most beautiful destination. And, with You by my side through it all, I will make it to Your heavenly kingdom, where I will dine with You at Your table.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord. Plans for peace and not of harm, to give you a future and a hope.

Isaiah 40:31 But those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not be faint.

Overcoming Temptations

As I seek You in the expectation of changing my life around, trials and temptations will be launched at me. The evil one will always try to throw me off-course.

Set my paths straight, Oh Merciful Savior. Allow me to see beyond those distractions and to focus on what lies ahead. Give me strength, as I battle the evil forces around me, fully equipped with Your Armour, Oh God.

Ezra 10:4  Arise, for this matter is your responsibility. We also are with you. Be of good courage, and do it.

Protect Me Lord

Protect me as I go out into this harsh, cruel world that is constantly changing and trying to influence me. I will overcome it, just as You overcame the grave.

Precious Lamb, I want to know You more and more. Draw near to me. I request Your Holy presence. Sometimes I may fail You, Lord and at those times I need Your love, grace and mercy the most.

Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

Reveal Your Plan For My Life

I am a work-in-progress, Lord and all I ask of You today is that You cleanse my heart, shape me and mold me into who You want me to become.

Reveal Your great plan and will for my life. Use me to fulfill my destiny and spread Your message across the land.

I declare and decree that from this day forward, Your never-changing, genuine, undying, never-failing love, will envelope my heart and I will gain compassion, hope, faith and love for humanity and I shall follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ of Nazareth! Amen and Amen!!

Philippians 2:12-13  Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.
