Prayer for my children

I pray that my children will love God with their whole hearts and will want nothing more than to live unashamedly and joyfully for Him.

I pray they will never grow lukewarm–but instead be filled with a fiery passion to follow their Savior, Jesus Christ, with every bit of strength they have.

I pray that their hearts will leap with joy at the sound of His name and that He will be the greatest love of their lives.

I plead for God to help my children turn away from the desires of this world and instead run straight toward the cross of Jesus where true life begins. I pray that they will never run from Him in order to follow the false pursuits of comfort and security, which are so appealing, yet so hollow and unreal.

With all of my heart, I pray that God will give them eyes to see that anything promising complete fulfillment apart from Jesus Christ is simply a lie. Jesus Christ is the only way, the only truth, and the only life (John 14:6), and apart from Him, they have nothing.

I ask God to help my children understand that putting their trust in Jesus is not just a way to get to heaven, but it is an invitation to embark upon the greatest, most purposeful journey of their lives–and it starts right here and now on this earth.

I pray that they will be driven forward in life by a burning desire to do whatever God calls them to do, and they will never be afraid of following God into the dark places of this world in order to shine His light.

Lord I Pray

I pray that fear will never hold them back from doing God’s will, and that they will know with absolute conviction that any sacrifice or risk for Christ will always be worth it.

I beg for God to open my children’s eyes to see the world through the eyes of Jesus Christ. I pray that they will look at the world around them and be broken by the masses of people who desperately need Jesus yet are “harassed and helpless like sheep without a shepherd” (Matthew 9:36).

I pray that out of their love for the lost, they will be a beacon of hope to the weary souls who need Him most, and they will lead them to the only Hope that really lasts: Jesus Christ.

I pray for God to radically alter my children’s lives for their good and His glory. I pray that blessings will flow out of their loving obedience to Him, and that the joy of their lives will always be founded upon their Savior, Jesus Christ.

God, hear my heartfelt cry, and change the world through them.

Children are a gift – an amazing blessing from God.

Every single day we may find ourselves doing a lot for our kids, loving and caring for them, nurturing, teaching, training, helping, leading, equipping, encouraging, protecting, and so much more.

We spend precious hours just living out life, helping with homework, and driving them to activities. We spend money on sports, lessons, and various classes to help them grow and become all they can be, providing opportunities for them to do what they most love in this world.

But in the midst of busy, full lives, we have to ask ourselves: Are we praying?

I mean, really praying specific, powerful, promise-filled, hope-inspired prayers. Are we praying God’s powerful Word and promises over their lives?

I’m freshly aware, and challenged to pray more.

There’s a battle over our families today, and the enemy would love nothing more than to destroy all that we hold dear in this life. He’s ruthless and cunning, deceitful and sly. He’ll attack when we’re not watching, he’ll do everything he can to lure our kids his way.

Don’t let him win.

Prayer is essential over our children and families, in order to stay alert, aware, and discerning of God’s voice, as well as to stand against the attacks of the enemy in our lives. We should never underestimate the importance of speaking blessing and truth over their lives. Prayer is powerful and his words are true.

Prayer + God’s Word = Power – the pathway for Him to do miraculous things.

Dear God,

We praise you for your love and faithfulness. We thank you for your protection and care over our families. Thank you that you give us the power to love well; the wisdom to lead and teach our children. We know you’re for us; that you fight for our families today. You are Redeemer, Restorer, and Friend, we believe you have good in store. We confess, some days, parenting is tough. Many days we can feel anxious or overwhelmed. We ask that you would make us more like you, more aware of your constant Presence in our lives. Help us to release our children to You, so that You are free to fully accomplish all that You desire, in them, through them. Please fill our families with your truth and cover us with your favor.

Lord, we pray for these blessings over our children, today, and every day…

prayer for my children

Dear God,

School starts on Monday. Thank you, thank you (sincere holy whisper). We both know that momma’s bag ‘o summer tricks is plum empty and hiding in the bathroom while my children argue upstairs is not going to work much longer.

We’ve got brand new school supplies tucked neatly into clean backpacks. The kids each have squeaky new tennis shoes and their first day of school clothes picked out, except for my son who doesn’t care, but you know that already. Thank you for providing every bit of it.

We’ve spent the last couple of weeks getting ready. And ready or not, it’s time.

There are some jitters, wondering about getting the locker open on the first try, making new friends and who to sit by at lunch. And that’s just me. I know my kids are nervous too. You know I got a little emotional this week as I stepped into their world, walking the halls they will everyday. I have some worries, a few fears because I don’t like the cultural “norms” in our world – many aren’t normal at all in our family.  I am proud of the Godly choices my kids have made but with every new school year, they take a step further away from me and that’s hard for every momma.

But you urge us not to worry.  So, instead I’m praying this over them today:

I pray you will be near them when I can’t be.

I pray if they don’t feel your presence, they will seek you and discover you’re right there with them.

I pray you will surround them with peace and comfort in every new situation.

I pray when they are pressured, you will help them stand.

I pray they find one good friend, a brother or sister in Christ because it’s hard to stand alone.

I pray that 6 AM won’t come as early this year.

I pray when they fail, they will forgive themselves and try again.

I pray you will give the school nurse an extra supply of patience and bandaids for my first grader.

I pray my kids will befriend those that are new, lonely or both.

I pray they will not sit next the child who has to throw up in the class trashcan.

I pray they will be a blessing to their teacher and not a curse.

I pray you will bless them with Godly teachers as you have in the past.

I pray they will have fun. But not too much, if you know what I mean.

I pray they will let their light shine, quietly or loudly, but in their own way.

I pray homework will be light and not become Home. Work.

I pray that you will help me to trust their choices, let them go even when it’s hard, and pull them close when they need me to the most.

I pray above all, God,  that you would use their challenges, disappointments and victories to draw them closer to you this school year.

Thank you for every gift.

Amen

Kristen, mom of three
