Pray for the youth

Father God, today we make mention of the youth in this next generation, not just the ones we know, but also those across this nation and the world. We pray for an encounter with You, the One who can change everything.

Grant them a spirit of wisdom and revelation of insight into mysteries and secrets in the deep and intimate knowledge of You. Open eyes, hearts, and ears as only You can do. May all in this next generation know and understand the calling You’ve placed upon them, the inheritance You’ve given them, and what You, Father, have positioned them for and their purpose in this time and hour.

We pray specifically for those who are far away from You; meet those who are wandering aimlessly. Meet them with Your supernatural power and the anointing of the Holy Ghost. May they experience Your presence and be drawn to You in a new way.

We pray for those who are wondering whether You care about them, if You know their names, if You heal, what their destinies are, and if they can have an effect on this world. Father, we know that You even caused this wonder. We pray for each person who is wondering about You and pray that connection would be made to You. Bring each one of them a personalized, detailed experience with You. Bring them personalized moments with the Holy Spirit that only You can give.

We thank You, Father, for a ramping up. A shift has come in the heavenly; the operation of Your Spirit is going forth in a greater measure and a greater way to effect the next generation. May the power of God—the power that raised Jesus from the dead—become like a heat-seeking missile that goes and finds those who need You.

We ask for deposits of Your grace and mercy in operation by the Holy Ghost in the name of Jesus. We ask for supernatural encounters for the youth of America as well as the youth of the nations. Reach them supernaturally. Reach those in the most secluded and isolated places.

We pray for Your divine presence at every educational venue in America: our high schools, colleges, elementary schools, and preschools. Make Yourself real. Make Yourself plain. Set up divine aid and assistance of Your Spirit. Reveal Yourself to the next generation so they would personally know Your power and Your glory.

Father, we thank You for pastors and spiritual leaders across the world. Give them ideas and new avenues to influence and cause children to come to You. Give them divine wisdom for this time and age.

We believe our prayers are making a corridor for You to encounter our youth and release Your power upon them. We praise You, God, for You are a God who answers when we call. We agree for these things to be done in the precious name of Jesus, amen.

I know I am who I am because of the prayers of others.
I know I am where I am because of the prayers of others.

One person, in particular, has been praying bold, tenacious prayers for me since they first met me about 19 years ago, before I was following Jesus. Rich led an on-campus ministry at the University I attended. His prayers have followed me all my days, as he continues to pray for me through the good times and the challenging times. When I felt like nothing and my life looked more like a pile of rubble and uncertainty – Rich prayed God’s best into me. When leadership, ministry, and God’s shalom was but a pipe dream for me, he prayed.

When I was searching for faith. He prayed.
When my doubts overwhelmed my faith. He prayed.
When I flunked an exam and thought my life was over. He prayed.
When relationships ended. He prayed.
When areas of my life still had a ways to go to line-up with the ways of Christ. He prayed.
When I didn’t know what my future would hold. He prayed.
When I ended up leading a ministry, with zero training. He prayed.
When I had decisions to make. He prayed.
When I have led events. He prayed.
When I have preached. He prayed.
When I did nothing. He prayed.
When I hit valleys. He prayed.
When I discovered mountain tops. He prayed.

I mean it when I say, I have no doubt that I am the person I am today because of Rich’s prayers and the prayers of other faithful people. It is overwhelming when we think of all the people who have prayed for us through the years – grandparents, parents, Aunts, Uncles, friends, mentors, leaders, siblings, spouses, kids…
It is overwhelming when I think of the faith Rich (and others) had in those prayers, when I didn’t have the faith to believe the things they were praying – about God or about myself.
They believed it and prayed it before it was seen. That’s faith. That’s tenacious.

Who prays for you? Prays the deep, bold, tenacious, faith prayers for you? Especially when you can’t pray them for yourself.
Who are you praying for?
Who is praying for our youth?

Youth need someone who will pray bold, tenacious prayers for them.
This Sunday is the National Day of Prayer for Youth. (http://www.prayforyouth.ca/)
Join in praying bold prayers for our youth.

Here are some ways to incorporate praying for youth into your rhythms:
• Get a picture of the youth group from your church and put it on your kitchen table. Every time you say grace pray for the youth group too.
• Weekly walk the perimeter of your local school, praying.
• Ask if the youth leader in your church would get permission to give you the picture and some background information about one youth they know. Pray for them regularly.
• Scan the news for where youth are mentioned (in good ways and in difficult ways). Pray for them.
• Find out the names of either the youth leaders, coaches or teachers in your area. Pray for these people who form our youth.
• Get a Q-card and write out a bold prayer for a youth you know. Pray it regularly. If it is appropriate, give a copy of the prayer to the youth.
• Notice the teenagers in your day – working at the check out, cleaning your table, biking by, waiting outside the school, on the bus… Say a silent prayer of blessing for the teenager, as you pass by.
• If you have a youth in your home or a youth you are close to – ask them regularly “What’s the most important thing I can be praying for you right now?” and pray for them on the spot.
• Ask a local Christian camp what their prayers requests are. Write them down and pray for them. Camps minister to many children, teens and families throughout the year.
• Encourage your church to pray for youth. Start a prayer wall or build a prayer labyrinth at your church/youth group. To create a prayer labyrinth, take rope or candles and make a labyrinth design on the floor. Every so often in the labyrinth put cards with prayer requests. Participants pick up a card and pray for what is on the card as they walk the labyrinth. When they are done that card, they pick up a new card.

This Sunday join in the national day of prayer for youth. More ideas for incorporating this into a Sunday morning and a youth group lesson can be found at:

How wonderful you are Lord

for giving us a life
which is full of enthusiasm
and energy.

How wonderful you are Lord
for giving us the gift of intelligence,
talents and skills which we are
using to realize our mission here on earth.

Hear us your children, O Lord
We beg you to forgive our shortcomings
especially during the times that
we are overwhelmed with materialism in this wicked world.

Bless us with courage, determination and trust
Bless us with wisdom and understanding
Help us make a decision which is beneficial
not only to our lives but also to the common.

We are looking forward for a new EDEN
which is free from from earthly experiences
We are hoping to encounter you
in the midst of our endeavor. Amen.

One of our biggest responsibilities as adults is to teach and train our kids core principals from the Bible to give them a solid foundation in Christ as they grow.  You don’t have to walk very far to see how important it is to pray right now.  It seems like each generation gets a little more out of control than the last one.  Here are 7 prayers you can pray for young people (ages 20 and under) and the next generation.

Rise Up

Father in Heaven,

I pray that You would raise up a generation of children that would fear You greatly!  Lord, I’m scared about where our country is headed.  Many bad decisions are affecting our kids.  Abortion is not a scary word anymore.  Father, our kids need to know to fight for what’s right and I pray that You would use me to help Your cause to raise a generation of young people that will continue to fight for You!  I love You!  Amen

“We know what’s right!  We’ll stand and fight!  It’s time to rise!” (We Know What’s Right, Whitecross)

Ministry

Lord,

You know the hearts of our young kids.  I pray that you would grow a desire in them that some would devote a life of service to a ministry.  We need honest preachers.  We need passionate worship pastors.  We need men that will take hold of these desires and run with them.  You can do great things, Father, through us and I pray that You will use the Holy Spirit to speak to our adolescent children to grow a passion inside of them that wants to know You more and live for You daily!  I love You!  Amen

“And how are they to preach unless they are sent?  As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!’”(Romans 10:15)

Your Own Kids

Dear Lord,

I love my children so much and I know that they are learning to love You more daily.  Father, I am scared for them because everything around them says You are a lie.  I pray that the Holy Spirit will convict them daily to know what is right and what choices they should make.  I know that they are only with me for a brief time and I pray that I would be found faithful in Your sight with how I raise them.  I will continue to pray with them and encourage them to read their Bibles daily.  Lord, I believe Jesus!  He said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6) I pray that my children will grow to believe the same way.  I put them in Your hands, Father.  Amen

“And when you feel like giving up, I will walk you through the pain.  And when you feel like life’s too much, remember Jesus is your strength always.” (Always, Seventh Day Slumber)

The Outcasts

O Father in Heaven,

My heart is breaking for the young men and women who are social outcasts.  The news tells the same story every single night.  Someone is being bullied or shot.  Father, this is chaotic!  Please, Lord, protect the ones who cannot protect themselves.  Some kids are so emotionally traumatized that they have attempted to take their own lives…some have succeeded.  Father, I pray that You would place men and women of faith in the paths of these kids to show them that they are special and they are loved.  Until they see love they will only continue in the spiral of endless chaos.  Father, use me to help in any way!  I love You!  Amen

“I will not turn my eyes.  I will not ignore their cries…Orphans come home.  The kingdom is yours.” (Orphans, Impending Doom)

Missions

Blessed Lord,

I thank You for the men and women that lead teams of missionaries to help spread the truth of the Gospel of Christ.  I pray that as our church is planning its next trip that our young men and women will step up and fill the need.  I have seen You move on these trips in mighty ways!  Many people who needed clothes, shoes and a roof for their head have come to know and love You because of people willing to go on a missions trip.  Lord, I will encourage the young people to go, just as You have told us to go in the great commission.  I love You!  Amen

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.  And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)

In The Womb

Dear God,

I pray for those yet to be born. There are thousands and thousands of little babies waiting to be born from their mommies. I pray that these little ones will hear the truth of the Bible as they grow older.  I pray for Your protection on them in the womb.  Without new life, we would be extinct and children are a huge blessing.  Guide, guard and direct these little ones as they grow in You.  They could change the world because of You!  I lift them up to You in the name of Your precious Son.  Amen

pray for the youth

“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.” (Psalm 127:3)

Prodigals

Heavenly Father,

I pray for the young men and women who have left their faith behind to indulge in the desires of the flesh.  Father, I pray that You would open their eyes to see the decay that is around them.  I pray that they would understand their sin fully and repent.  Lord, bring them to their knees in sadness and remorse for the terrible things they have done.  Until they see the need for Jesus they are doomed for hell.  Please, Father, draw them back to You.  Use men and women of faith to love on them and show them truth in the midst of the deception they are living in.  The devil is crafty, but You are Holy!  All things are possible through You!  I love You!  Amen

“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Conclusion

These are only 7 of many prayers you could pray for our young people and the next generation.  We need to be in prayer daily for them!  So, please, take just 2 minutes of your day and say a quick prayer to God for a young person you know.  It may be the very thing that launches that young person into a life of service to the Lord!  May God bless you as you continue to live a life worthy of the calling!
