Morning prayer for guidance

There are two levels of prayer. The first is a prayer that makes a direct request to God for something. The second is the request that is accompanied by groaning that comes from the heart. That is why Jesus Christ said, “And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive” (Matthew 21:22). Prayer is the groaning of the heart that comes out of the mouth. If it is not coming from the heart, it is not really prayer.

“Hearken unto the voice of my cry” (Psalm 5:2). Not only is prayer the groaning of my heart, but the voice of my cry. The best form of prayer is crying before God with the groaning of the heart. The Lord will hear your cry and He will see your tears. Individuals, families and nations receive the answers to their prayers when they cry unto the Lord. If we cry before the Lord, we need not ever cry before man!

“Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider my meditation” (Psalm 5:1). What a privilege to call on God. What is even more wonderful is that we can call Him MY GOD! We possess lands, houses, businesses, a spouse, children, cars and a variety of other household properties. We work hard to get ownership of these things. But have you ever desired to make God your own?

Can you say that this God who made the universe is your God? In India, people try to make their families and other individuals their god. They make gods of their talents or gold, silver, iron, wood, and clay.  But when we make the Creator God of the entire universe our own, He will be our King. I made this great God my King and my Savior many years ago. Ever since then, He is my God. He belongs to me and I belong to Him. Whenever I pray and cry, He listens to me. Do you want to make this God your God? If so, ask Him!

“Lord Jesus, come into my heart and be my Savior and King. Save me, a sinner. Amen.”

“My voice shalt Thou hear in the morning, O Lord” (Psalm 5:3). We need God to be the first person who hears our voice – before our wives, husbands, parents, children or servants hear our voice, we are to speak to God. What a wonderful privilege to talk to the Lord before speaking to anyone else!

“And I will look up” (v. 3).  Look up to Him for your help, your problems, your needs and your heartaches. Start every morning by speaking to the Lord first! I will look up to Him for my help, Because He hates workers of iniquity and takes no pleasure in wickedness; we must keep ourselves away from those things. Stay away from evil. Get into the Lord’s presence, remember His mercies, worship Him and fear Him.

Today, in the heart of many people, there is no fear of God. There is much corruption in this world because there is no fear of God in the hearts of men.

I have many enemies and because of my enemies, I need the Lord to lead me in His righteousness. Let them that try to find fault in me be ashamed because of His righteousness. “Make Your way straight before my face” (Psalm5:8). I want to walk in His way and not in my ways because His ways are perfect.

The wicked rebel against God and His people; they gather against God’s people. There is no faithfulness in their mouths. Their throats are open sepulchers that flatter. With their flattering words, they push people into the open sepulcher destroying many with their words. They themselves are destroyed by their own wickedness (Psalm 5: 9-10).

All those who trust in God will receive great blessings and rewards (v. 11):

  • They shall rejoice. They can rejoice in every circumstance and in every place. They rejoice always because they trust in God.

  • God becomes their defender and their strength; He becomes their refuge. What a wonderful privilege.

  • The more they love God, the more they will shout for joy.

The Lord will bless the righteous and the blessings of God will follow him (v. 12). When God blesses, no one can curse. God is the source of all blessings and all His blessings shall follow those that trust in Him. God’s favor is better than the favor of all men – even kings and rulers. God will be our shield and our hiding place. God will shield us with His goodness, mercy and favor. Amen!

Just one word from God can change the rest of your life or at the very least it can change your day. I love reading the book of Psalms. It’s so awesome how God talks to us through his word when we take time to actually read it during our day. Like this mornings psalms was actually titled “Morning Prayer for Guidance.” Psalms chapter 5 gives us such valuable nuggets of gold for our day. (Vs 3) My voice shall thou hear in the morning O Lord; in the morning I shall declare my prayer unto thee and look up. What a spiritual process that takes place there in that verse. My voice; my prayer; my God. (Vs 7) But as for me I come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear shall I worship towards thy holy temple. Today God has such an abundance of mercy for you: new and unending found only in him and in his temple. (Vs 12) For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous: with favor wilt thou surround him as with a shield. It’s only because of what Jesus did on the cross that makes us completely worthy to be called the righteousness of God. So listen if you’ve received Christ as your savior and asked forgiveness for your sins then you are the righteousness of God and you and I have no right to say different concerning his loving view of us. So stop believing the lies from you past failures or mistakes. Stop believing the lies through those who are workers of Satan. Stop believing the lies in your head and believe the truth in your heart. Yes, today know that God himself has surrounded you with his favor like a shield. The favor of God is upon you, in you, and desires to flow through you. Morning Prayer for Guidance: Even Now. Pastor D.

Throughout Scripture we are reminded of God’s direction over our lives. He is our good Shepherd who leads us and He desires that we follow the path that leads to joy and contentment.  When we pray for God’s guidance and for discernment through the Holy Spirit, we can rest assured that God will provide wisdom! We do not have to worry about our next step or about tomorrow because we know who guides our way! Do not rush your day without going before God to seek guidance!

Prayer for Guidance from the Holy Spirit

Lord, I pray you would move the Spirit more boldly in my life. I know that any sin can grieve and diminish the voice of the Spirit, and I pray against the temptation to sin. Help me crave your presence more than I crave sin. Help me grow in the fruit of the Spirit and so walk closer with Yourself. I pray for guidance from your Spirit- let your will and promises always be a meditation of my heart. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Prayer for Guidance in the Day Ahead

Good morning, Lord! Today’s a new day, a chance for a new start. Yesterday is gone and with it any regrets, mistakes, or failures I may have experienced. It’s a good day to be glad and give thanks, and I do, Lord. Thank you for today, a new opportunity to love, give, and be all that you want me to be.

Today I want to start the day with you on my mind and in my heart. As I dress, let me wear the armor you’ve provided daily: the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, the belt of truth, the shoes of peace, and the sword of the spirit—with prayer on my tongue: praise for you and petitions for those around me and those I meet.

Feed me today with your daily bread. As the Bread of Life, your food, like manna, will sustain me throughout any trials and hungers. Help me to set my thoughts on things above and to speak only what will help and encourage others. Keep me from putting my foot in my mouth, and help me guard the affections of my heart today, Lord. Make whatever work I do be marked with excellence rather than perfectionism, as I seek not to make a name, but to make a difference. Help me to treat each person I encounter as you would, with respect and love, forgiving others and asking for forgiveness myself when needed.

As I start this day, help me remember that I belong to you, and my desire is to act accordingly. Keep my feet from stumbling and my mind from wandering into distractions that could steal precious time and energy from the most important things you have designed for me. I’m proud to be your child, Lord. And I’m so grateful that you died for me—rising again on your own new morning—so that every day could be filled with the wonder of your love, the freedom of your Spirit, and the joy of knowing you.

I know earthly life is short and fleeting, Lord. But I want to live today as if it were the first or the last day of my life, giving thanks for every good and perfect gift you choose to give. Today, and every day, I want to live my life for you, Jesus. In your precious name, Amen.

A Prayer for Discernment and Wisdom When You Need God’s Direction

Lord, thank You for the people You have divinely placed in my life who speak holy truth, love and words of wisdom. Give me a heart of discernment to know when You are using someone to speak instruction into my heart and my circumstances, and give me the strength and courage to follow through with that advice, even when it’s hard. Fill me with peace in knowing that even if I take a wrong turn, Your purpose will prevail. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Dear Lord, meeting with you in morning prayer uplifts me and gets my day off to a good start. For I know You hear my words and will show understanding to my hopes and needs. All through this day, Blessed Lord, please guide me safely and surely wherever I go, whatever I do. Help me to reach my goals. I ask this not only for myself, but for each of my fellow church members. We want You close beside us today and always. Amen.
