A Prayer for Strength is often needed during difficult times. God is always here for us, to give us strength and lift our hearts when all seems hopeless.

“I can do all things through Christ, which strengthens me.”

Most of us realize that our own strength is not always enough to get through some of the situations that this life brings.

At those difficult times, it is wise to call on God for extra strength and for His strength to help sustain you when your own strength fails. (Psalms 28:8 and Isaiah 40:29)

Give Me Strength, Lord

Lord, you are Holy above all others, and all of the strength that I need is in your hands.

I am not asking, Lord, that you take this trial away. Instead, I simply ask that Your will be done in my life. Whatever that means, that is what I want.

But I admit that it’s hard, Lord.

Sometimes I feel like I can’t go on. The pain and the fear are too much for me, and I know that I don’t have the strength on my own to get through this.

I know that I can come to you, Jesus, and that you will hear my prayer. I know that it is not your intent to bring me to this point just to leave me in the wilderness alone.

Please, Lord, give me the strength that I need to face today. I don’t have to worry about tomorrow.

If you just give me the strength that I need today that is all I need.

Keep me from sinning during this trial. Instead, help me to keep my eyes on you. You are the Holy Lord, and all of my hope rests in you.

Thank you for hearing my prayer.

The Bible is filled with all sorts of prayers. Prayers for strength are very common. When I need strength, I find it helpful to look and see how other great men and women of God prayed for strength.

You may think that there is no hope for you and that God will not give you the strength to get through the situation you are dealing with. Nothing is farther from the truth.

Many of these prayers I have picked are from men that had the same failures and struggles that we all have. If God answered their prayers for strength, then He will answer yours.

7 Prayers For Strength In The BibleSamson’s Prayer For Physical Strength

In this prayer for strength, you will see Samson pray after returning to God after he broke his promise to God while in a relationship with an ungodly woman.

Judges 16:28-30

Then Samson prayed to the Lord, “Sovereign Lord, remember me again. O God, please strengthen me just one more time. With one blow let me pay back the Philistines for the loss of my two eyes.” 29 Then Samson put his hands on the two center pillars that held up the temple. Pushing against them with both hands, 30 he prayed, “Let me die with the Philistines.” And the temple crashed down on the Philistine rulers and all the people. So he killed more people when he died than he had during his entire lifetime.

David Prayer For Strength During Difficult Times

David was no stranger to failure. On more than one occasion he did things that were not right. However, by the end of his life, he learned how to pray for strength to overcome.

He ended up being called “a man after God’s own heart.” This prayer for strength is one example of how David learned to receive his strength from God.

Jeremiah’s Prayer Confession Of God’s Strength And Power

The prophet Jeremiah also called the weeping prophet had the hard task of prophesying the future captivity of the people of God. He needed strength to be able to tell people something that they didn’t want to hear.

In this Bible passage, we see that he focused on God to receive his strength for the task ahead of him.

Jeremiah 16:19-21

Jeremiah’s Prayer of Confidence

19 Lord, you are my strength and fortress, my refuge in the day of trouble!Nations from around the world will come to you and say,“Our ancestors left us a foolish heritage, for they worshiped worthless idols.20 Can people make their own gods? These are not real gods at all!”21 The Lord says,“Now I will show them my power;now I will show them my might.At last they will know and understandthat I am the Lord.

Praying For Strength With Music

Not all prayer is done by bowing your head and folding your hands as we see in this prayer for strength from the prophet Habakkuk. Praise, worship, and singing are all forms of prayer as well.

Habakkuk 3:17-19

17 Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines;even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren;even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty,18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!19 The Sovereign Lord is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon the heights.(For the choir director: This prayer is to be accompanied by stringed instruments.)

Prayers For Strength And Faith

The Apostle Paul was no stranger to trials and tribulations. He was beaten, abandoned, stoned, left for dead, shipwrecked and falsely accused yet he still found it within him to pray for the strength of others.

Paul’s Prayer for Spiritual Growth

Ephesians 3:14-21

14 When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, 15 the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. 16 I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. 17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Colossians 1:9-14

9 So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.11 We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, 12 always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. 13 For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, 14 who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.

Jesus’ Prayer For Strength For A Friend

Jesus tells Simon Peter that he is going to fail and deny Him. Jesus didn’t leave it at that.

He also told Peter in this verse that He had pleaded in prayer for Peter. He said to him that his faith would not fail. Then he told Peter to give what He had received and to strengthen his brothers and sisters in the Lord.

Luke 22:31-32

31 “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat. 32 But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail. So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen your brothers.”

Daily Strength For Daily Needs

Prayer is simply communicating with God. He is not nearly as concerned with the exact words you say or if you use the right formula. He is more concerned with you being honest and transparent with Him and sharing your hearts concern.

That is true no matter if you are saying prayers for strength, prayers for guidance, or a prayer for comfort. It doesn’t even matter how long your prayer is. Short prayers for strength work too!

God is just waiting for you to ask with a sincere heart for Him to be the center in all aspects of life.

Lord, I’m weary. My energy is sagging, and my motivation is lagging. And I am so in need of you. I need your strength and your fresh touch to get back on track again. Your Word says the joy of the Lord is my strength. If that’s true, then I need your joy to replace all the bone-tired parts of my mind, body, and soul.

The pressures of life sometimes push me into a corner, rendering me helpless to move forward. A hundred voices call my name, and I feel paralyzed at times to answer, not knowing where to turn. Lord, help me not to quit, to keep running the race faithfully, and to find strength in that safe, secret place of yours, under the shadow of the Almighty.

I need your strength to say no when I’m tempted to surrender to harmful things, or when selfishness clings to my clothes and won’t let go. I need your strength to say yes, when cowardice and fear nudge me to deny the convictions of my heart. I need your strength to reach out in love to those both close to me and all around me. When don’t I need your strength, God?

You are my rock, and I run to you today, believing that you will lift up my heavy arms, that you will fuel me for the tasks you’ve given me, and that your joy will completely consume the weakness of my life and make me strong again. I don’t want to stay grounded, crippled by limitations and failed attempts. I’m tired of feeble efforts. Lord, I want to mount up with wings like an eagle and not just fly. I want to soar.

Renew my strength, Lord. Fill me with your supernatural power to overcome each obstacle in my path. With my eyes on you, Lord, with you walking beside me, working through me, I can make it. Thank you, Lord!

A Prayer for Strength and Encouragement

Lord, like David, I need your encouragement in a time of trial and anguish. Thank you that you are always on the throne, always my God, ready to save. Thank you for being the same God to me that you were to David. Thank you for always being near and always rescuing me from my fears and hurts. Lord, I am weary and don’t know when this “race” will end in my life. I feel like I’ve been running forever, trying to outrun this trial.
