Flight prayer

PrayerFlight is a group of men and women who have joined forces to pray over our cities, states and nation from the unique perspective of flight. We understand that it is not where we are when we pray but rather the sincerity and fervency of our prayers that God hears and answers. Our dedicated men and women believe that it is from our perspective in flight that allows us the opportunity to observe God’s awesome creation and are reminded of our duty to pray for our fellow man, cities and nation.

Through our perspective in flight, we desire to spend time in prayer specifically for the city that we are flying over. On days set aside by PrayerFlight, we are attempting to cover entire counties, states and our nation as Prayer Warriors team up with pilots and physically cover an assigned area with prayer.

What an awesome thought, to know that individuals are flying overhead while praying for you, your neighbors, schools, government and all aspects of your community. Through our prayers we are asking our Lord and Saviour to heal our communities and nation.

Please take some time to look over our web site and join us in prayer for our nation. We invite you to join our efforts in your community. By partnering with a local pilot (perhaps in your own church) and other Prayer Warriors, you can join our efforts and through the registration page of this site, in a coordinated effort, we will begin the task of covering our entire nation in prayer from the air.

Mission Statement
It is the Mission of PrayerFlight to do the Will of God as written in II Chronicles 7:14; “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land”.

We believe that God has blessed man with the gift of flight and it is this unique perspective from the air that brings to mind the many glories of His creation and our obligation to seek His face and will through prayer.

We further believe that God’s Word is Truth and through our prayers and intersession, He will deliver our nation and beyond. Therefore, we shall seek to cover our land by Filling the Air with Prayer.

Boeing has designed an in-flight prayer room concept, in response to request made by some airlines, predominately carriers from muslim countries. Airlines like Etihad, Saudi Arabian airlines has been having space for prayers at the expense of seats being removed. The Boeing’s new concept would use the space near the entryways on twin-aisle aircraft and building a foldable foot-washing tray into the wall of the toilets.

Some of the middle eastern Airlines advertise prayer zone as their key selling point; Saudi Arabian airlines has a video advertising the prayer zone on the long haul, Etihad advertise its prayer room in its Airbus A380, in which 10 people can pray at the same time.

Boeing’s design engineer James Fullerton has told aviation week, “The idea behind the concept is that a series of customized curtain tracks would be installed around the entryway area on a widebody jet. The space could be deployed in the door one entryway of a twin-aisle aircraft or “on both sides of door two,”

There are two things here: the direction of the qiblah, and the prayer time.

About the first, you try your best to find the direction. These days it’s relatively easy because most international flights (or flights longer than a few hours) have a navigation device in front of each seat which shows you which direction the plane is going. Try using that to find where the qiblah is. If you can do it, great, pray that way. If not, then do the best you can, and Allah SWT doesn’t burden a soul more than it can bear. islamqa

Now about the prayer time, for three of the prayers (Fajr, Maghrib, and ‘Isha) one can work out looking out the window whether the time for these has started or not. For the other prayers, estimate if you can, plan it out beforehand by looking up the prayer times at the place you will be above at that time, and if you can do neither, do the best you can again islamqa. And if you happen to learn later that you prayed before time, then offer it again.

And finally, Allah SWT has a concession for those who are travelling – you can combine Dhuhr and ‘Asr, and you can surely tell looking out the window whether it’s daytime or not.
