Breaking Demonic Strongholds
Father, In the name of Your Son Jesus Christ, I now approach Your throne in a time of great need, in time of an extreme emergency.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, as You already know, I have demons attacking me from the outside, and possibly from the inside of my being. I know why they are in my life. I have done some really bad and evil things in my life. I have horribly transgressed against both You and all of Your basic laws and commandments with the sins that I have personally committed against You.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I first want to say to You that I am really sorry for doing all of these bad and evil things against You. There is no excuse for the kind of behavior that I have exhibited over the years. But Father, I now want to take a strong stand. I do not want any more part of this kind of evil and wicked lifestyle. I know now that You are My only hope and My only salvation to be able to deliver me from the demonic bondage I now find myself enslaved in as a result of crossing over into these kinds of heavier sins.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I ask that You please have mercy on my soul, and that You please forgive me for all of the sins and atrocities that I have personally committed against You under the blood that Your one and only Son Jesus Christ has personally shed for me on the cross.
1. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I now want to formally confess out all of the bad, evil, and sinful things I have personally done against You. Father, I now confess to you the following things as being sins and extreme abominations in Your sight:
- My involvement in drugs.
- My involvement in sex, fornication, unnatural and unholy sex acts – such as homosexual acts and thoughts, and being involved in a swingers type lifestyle.
- My use of all kinds of pornography.
- My past adulterous affairs and activities.
- All of my past thefts and covetousness.
- All of my envy and jealousy that I have ever shown against anyone, and all of my lying and deceit that I have ever been involved in.
- All of the pride, impatience, hate and rage that I have ever shown or manifested over the years.
- All of my involvement in some of the occult arts such as witchcraft, invocation of demon spirits, and tarot cards.
- All of the times that I have personally cursed You and prayed to other false gods.
- Breaking most of Your 10 commandments to one degree or another.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I now know, without any shadow of a doubt, that all of the above activities were evil, heinous sins and abominations in your sight. I am so sorry for going this far against You.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ of NazarethI know that Your Son Jesus Christ has died for all of my sins. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I now ask that You please forgive me for every single one of the these sins and transgressions that I have personally committed against You. Let the Blood of Your Most Holy Son Jesus Christ completely wash away every ounce of stench, every ounce of each one of these sins that have been committed against You.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, you tell me in Your Word, that if I am willing to confess my sins and agree to repent, that You will fully forgive me of my sins and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I now ask that You please forgive me for of all of my sins that I have personally committed against You through the blood that Your Son Jesus Christ has personally shed for me on the cross. I now believe that all of my sins have been completely forgiven and completely washed away by the Blood of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
2. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I now want to agree to also renounce every single one of the above sins. You have my word that I will never, ever attempt to go back into any area having to do with the occult, any area having to do with sexual fornication, or any involvement in any kind of drug use whatsoever.
Father, in Jesus name, I now officially renounce every single one of the above sins and transgressions that have been committed against You.

3. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the next thing I need to take care of is when my father raped me when I was a young child. I now know that what he did was evil and wrong in Your sight. However, I will choose not to hold any unforgiveness towards him.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I choose with my own free will to fully forgive him for what he did to me when I was a young child. My father and the judgment on his life will now fall into Your hands, not mine. I hold no hate or animosity towards him. I ask that you please have mercy on his soul when he has to face You for his own personal judgment. I now fully forgive him for what he has done to me.
4. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I now believe that all of my sins, transgressions, and abominations against You have been fully forgiven by You under the shed blood of Your Son Jesus Christ. Father, I thank You for having this kind of mercy on my soul and that You have made a way of forgiveness for me through the Blood of Your Son Jesus Christ.
Father, with all of my sins and transgressions against You now being fully forgiven – I now want to once and for all break the legal rights these demons have had over me over all of these years.
Father, in Jesus name, I now ask that You fully break the legal rights of these demons. I now ask that You completely break and completely sever every single one of their legal rights that has arisen as a result of my involvement in all of the above sin areas.
Father, in Jesus name, I now want to personally come against each one of these legal rights myself – operating under Your authority and Your anointing to be able to do so.
5. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I also want to reaffirm with you as I have done the other day, that I have now fully surrendered my body, my soul, my spirit, and my entire life into Your hands. I now ask that You place me into Your perfect will for my life.
I am now willing to fully follow You all the rest of the days of my life. I will now be guided by Your Holy Spirit from this moment on – and I will never, ever cross back over into the sin-filled life I used to live in.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I now belong to You, and You alone. You, and You alone, are my Rock and my Salvation. I will look to no other. My life is now totally in Your hands. Father, from this moment on, I will fully follow You and fully serve You for the rest of my eternal life.
Amen!

This is the last article in my series on Generational Curses. We have been studying a passage out of Exodus 20:4-5, where God says he will pass the parents’ iniquity on to the children for up to four generations.
In this closing article, I will look at the demonic strongholds often connected with generational curses. Iniquity and sin attract demons, like rotting flesh attracts flies.
We can see this association in the life of Judas, the man who betrayed Jesus to the High Priest. In Acts 1:18, the apostle Peter declared that the 30 pieces of silver — which Judas received from the High Priest to show Jesus location — was the “reward of iniquity.”
But an earlier account provides a clearer depiction of money’s hold on Judas. In this incident, we read the story of Mary anointing Jesus’ feet with a valuable measure of perfume.
We know that Judas was the treasurer of Christ’s band of disciples and the disciples were well aware that Judas embezzled money from this fund (John 12:4-6).
Judas openly complained that they could have sold the oil for 300 denarii and given to the poor (John 12). In verse 6, John wryly states the only poor Judas was thinking about was himself.
Obviously the “love of money” was part of Judas’ problem and suggests his iniquity was rooted in covetousness.
It was shortly after this incident, that Satan convinced Judas to betray Jesus (John 13:2) and gained the right to enter Judas (John 13:27). This culminated in Judas betraying Christ’s location to the chief priests for a small bag full of coins.
Through this we see a link between iniquity and the demonic. It appears at the very least Judas’ iniquity not only attracted the satanic but may have provided an open door for Satan to manipulate this disciple.
In the Old Testament, we also find two terms that show the bond between Generational curses and the demonic.
In Deuteronomy, Moses refers to two types of occultist practitioners common at that time in Canaan — ‘ob’ (translated spiritist in the NASV) and a yiddeoni (translated medium in the NASV).
11 or one who casts a spell, or a medium , or a spiritist , or one who calls up the dead. (Deuteronomy 18:11 NASV)
Both of these activities were absolutely forbidden in Israel due to their satanic overtones.
The Hebrew word “ob”, which the King James translated ‘familiar Spirit,’ referred to a conjurer common in the day who consulted spirits. A pit was dug in the ground, which gave these practitioners access to the spirits who spoke from the hole (Isaiah 29:4).
The King James used the adjective familiar (lit. family) to describe these spirits because the Canaanites believed these spirits were associated with the family and could be consulted on demand.
The second Hebrew word, yiddeoni, refers to a “knowing spirit” and specifically described evil spirits who had an intimate knowledge of the family — to the point of being able to impersonate family members (Leviticus 19:31; 20:6, 27).
Both these words imply that certain demons are attached to specific families, passing down from one generation to the next. They play a role in ensuring that the parent’s iniquity is transferred to the children.
At the end of this verse in Deuteronomy is a reference to necromancers who consulted with the ghosts or spirits of the dead family members — the familiar evil spirits and the spirits of the family members were all part of the package offered by occultist practitioners in Canaan.
Consequently, a vital part of the process in breaking generation curses is to take authority over any demonic strongholds associated with your family.
For this to happen, we need to understand that we are engaging in this battle from the higher ground.
The Apostle Paul writes:
15 When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him. (Colossians 2:15 NASV)
By Christ’s death and resurrection, Satan has been completely disarmed. The Greek word “apekduomai” also means undressed. Satan has been completely stripped naked.
So not only were his weapons taken, but his defensive armor is gone as well. This is the reality when addressing the spiritual realm and we need to believe it.
The second step is to understand Jesus has given us authority: When Jesus dispatched His disciples, He gave them these orders:
19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you. (Luke 10:19 NASV)
Jesus has also given us authority over the demonic realm.
These are the facts when it comes to dealing with the spiritual realm. This is our standing. We have already won. We are not battling to win, we are simply enforcing our victory — “in Jesus’ name.”

The idea of demonic strongholds is found only one time in the Bible. Second Corinthians 10:4 states, “For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.” How can such demonic strongholds be overcome?
Paul begins by instructing believers to use the right weapons. Second Corinthians 10:3 says, “For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh.” We do not use human weapons; believers depend on God’s power to overcome the powers of evil. How? Through prayer for God’s help and dependence upon the Holy Spirit who lives in the believer.
Verses 5-6 offer details on how to overcome these spiritual strongholds: “We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.” Our dependence upon God includes dealing with the false lies or ideas of evil, taking “every thought captive to obey Christ,” and being willing to stand against wrong when it occurs.
Dealing with false ideas or to “destroy arguments” involves identifying the lies that Satan, demonic forces, or the world around us may present. How can we identify these lies? We compare beliefs with biblical teachings from God. The Bible offers a clear foundation that distinguishes right from wrong to help us determine whether an idea might be from God or whether it is a lie from Satan.
Second, how do we take every thought captive to obey Christ? This occurs when we both identify the right thing to do and then apply it. James 1:22 teaches, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
Third, how do we stand against wrong when it occurs? In Paul’s original context, he commanded the Corinthian Christians to stand against a sinful sexual practice taking place with a member in their congregation. This is one of many examples of standing up against sin when it takes place. When we see another Christian living in sin, we are called to lovingly confront them and help them turn away from evil. In doing so, we must also evaluate our own life (Matthew 7:1-5) and be careful not to fall ourselves in the process of helping someone else (1 Corinthians 10:12; Galatians 6:1-5).
Overcoming demonic strongholds is not really about casting out demons or other spiritual encounters like someone might envision from a movie. Instead, it involves identifying sinful lies, comparing them with biblical beliefs, standing against evil, and doing so by the power of God’s Spirit.
