Often, I wake up in the middle of the night and cannot go back to sleep. What helps me, almost every time, is prayer. First, I remember that a lot of evil is going on right at that moment, in the dark of the night. So I start praying the St. Michael’s Prayer.
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. | Sáncte Míchael Archángele, defénde nos in proélio, cóntra nequítiam et insídias diáboli ésto præsídium. Ímperet ílli Déus, súpplices deprecámur: tuque, prínceps milítiæ cæléstis, Sátanam aliósque spíritus malígnos, qui ad perditiónem animárum pervagántur in múndo, divína virtúte, in inférnum detrúde. Ámen |
I say it over and over again, and usually, before too long, I am back asleep.
But, if that does not work, I have memorized my own saint’s litany of my favorites saints. You can do the same thing. Then I begin. Usually before it is finished I am back asleep. I just think of God or the saint’s name. I do not say, pray for us. Here is my litany.
Father, Jesus, Holy Spirit, Mary, St. Joseph,
St. Michael, St. Gabriel, St. Raphael, all archangels, cherubim, seraphim, all the guarding angels, my guarding angel. Then I say the Angel of God my Guardian dear prayer.
Angel of God, my guardian dear,
to whom God’s love commits me here,ever this day, be at my sideto light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen
St. Peter, (My name’s sake), St. Paul, St. James, St. John, St. Andrew, St. Matthew, St. Thomas, St. Philip, St. James the lesser, St. Bartholomew, St. Simon, St. Jude.
St. Albert, (My middle name, I was born on his feastday), (I go on with all the Dominican saints I am devoted to), St Dominic, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Pius V, St. Catherine of Siena, St. Martin DePorres, St. Rose of Lima.
St. Francis, (All the Franciscan saints), St. Clare, St. Anthony, St. Leopold Mondig, Padre Pio, Junipero Serra, St. Maximillian Colbe.
St. Terese, (all the Carmelite saints), St. Teresa of Avila, St. John of the Cross, Elizabeth of the Trinity, St. Edith Steiner, St. Titus Brandsma.
St. Patrick, St. Benedict, St. Scholastica,
St. Monica, St. Augustine, St. Ambrose, St. Athanasius,
St. Gregory, St. Vincent, St. Lawrence,
St. Dymphna, St. Benedict Labre, (saints for the mentally ill).
St. Bernadette Soubirous, St. Catherine Laboure,
St. Pius X.
St. John Bosco, St, John Vianney, St. John of God, St. John the Baptist.
You can make up what ever litany that you like and put it to memory. It will not be hard to put to memory, because you already have a spiritual love for your particular saints.
We are so blessed to be traditional Catholics and to have the help of God, Mary and all the saints.

Many people face this problem: insomnia. Insomnia means difficulty falling asleep even if you can do it or you have the chance. People with insomnia feel unsatisfied with their sleep and they can experience one of these symptoms: low energy, mood disturbances, decreased performance at work. So if you feel like you cannot sleep, then you need a prayer for insomnia.
Table of contents
What is the insomnia prayer?
There are prayers for healing, prayers to quit smoking, prayers for wisdom, and so on. The insomnia prayer is something that you need if you feel like you have problems when you try to sleep.
Maybe there is something that bothers you, maybe there is a thought that doesn’t let you get some rest. There are several reasons why you cannot sleep and you should really do something because it is not a healthy situation.
The insomnia prayer is a powerful prayer and you should take it into consideration when you feel you need help.

Bible verses about insomnia
Psalm 4:8 – I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.
Isaiah 26:3 – You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast because he trusts in you.
Proverbs 3:23-24 – Then you will walk safely in your way, and your foot will not stumble. When you lie down, you will not be afraid; yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.
Psalm 91:5-7 – You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
What can I do to create a good environment for the insomnia prayer?
Saying a prayer for insomnia needs a quiet environment, just as you need for all prayers you want to say. But because this is about prayers against insomnia, I will tell you how to prepare yourself.
First of all, you need to turn off the TV, the radio, your laptop and put your phone in another room.
Breath in and out slowly, close your eyes and start the prayer. Be sincere. You can use one of those two prayers for insomnia written above, or you can use your simple words. Put all your faith into this prayer for sleeplessness. A prayer needs your faith, even if we talk about the prayer for insomnia. Anything you pray for, you must put all your faith into your prayer to see the results.
I’ve heard many people saying that there is a Catholic prayer for insomnia, but the truth is that if you really want your prayer for insomnia to be heard, have faith. It doesn’t matter if you say a Catholic prayer for insomnia or a Christian one.
Talk to the angels because your Guardian Angel will hear you and call Archangel Gabriel to help you with the insomnia problem.
Use your voice, use your faith, be sincere and you will see the results.

Our Father
Our Father,
Who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy name;
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Glory Be
Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.
The Apostle’s Creed
I believe in God,
the Father Almighty,
Creator of Heaven and earth;
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, Our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into Hell.
The third day He arose again from the dead;
He ascended into Heaven,
sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty;
from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
Hail Holy Queen
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of mercy,
our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve:
to thee do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious Advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us,
and after this our exile,
show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Amen.
Anima Christi
Soul of Christ, make me holy
Body of Christ, be my salvation
Blood of Christ, let me drink your wine
Water flowing from the side of Christ, wash me clean
Passion of Christ, strengthen me
Kind Jesus, hear my prayer
Hide me within your wounds
And keep me close to you
Defend me from the evil enemy
And call me at the hour of my death
To the fellowship of your saints
That I might sing your praise with them
for all eternity. Amen.
Memorare
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known
that any one who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help
or sought thy intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence,
We fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins my Mother;
to thee do we come, before thee we stand, sinful and sorrowful;
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not our petitions,
but in thy mercy hear and answer them. Amen.
The Angelus
V- The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.
R- And she conceived by the Holy Spirit. (Hail Mary….)
V- Behold the handmaid of the Lord.
R- Be it done unto me according to thy word. (Hail Mary….)
V- And the Word was made Flesh.
R- And dwelt among us. (Hail Mary….)
V- Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.
R- That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
LET US PRAY: Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that, we to whom the Incarnation of Christ, Thy Son, was made known by the message of an Angel, may by His Passion and Cross, be brought to the glory of His Resurrection through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
Saint Michael Prayer
Saint Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God
cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits
who prowl throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
Act of Contrition
O my God, I am heartfully sorry for having offended thee, and I detest all my sins because of Thy just punishment, but most of all because I have offended Thee my God, Who is all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to sin no more, and to avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen.
Miraculous Medal Prayer
O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee, and for those who do not have recourse to thee, especially the enemies of the Church and those recommended to thee. Amen.
Morning Offering
Dear Lord, I do not know what will happen to me today. I only know that nothing will happen that was not foreseen by You, and directed to my greater good from all eternity. I adore Your holy and unfathomable plans, and submit to them with all my heart for love of You, the Pope, and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Amen.
Guardian Angel Prayer
Angel of God, my Guardian dear, to whom God’s love commits me here, ever this day (or night) be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.
Grace Before Meals
Bless us, O Lord, and these Thy gifts, which we are about to receive from Thy bounty, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Grace After Meals
We give Thee thanks for all Thy benefits, O Almighty God, who livest and reignest world without end. Amen. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
