Prayer When Returning From Getting Around
When climbing the hillsides (hills), a Sunna pronounce takbir.
It is narrated in the Muslim book through Anas that recounts:
We arrived with the Messenger of Allah, that is me and Abu Talhah; while Shafiyyah was hoisted behind the camel of the Prophet Muhammad. When we reached the border of Medina, he (Prophet Muhammad) uttered the following prayer:
اٰيِبُوْنَ تَاءِبُوْنَ عَابِدُوْنَ لِرَبِّنَاحَامِدُوْنَ
Aayibuuna taa-ibuuna ‘aabiduuna lirabbinaa haamiduuna.
“We arrive, we repent, we worship, and only to the Rabb we praise.”
He still said it until we got to Medina.
The Prayer of the Musafir (Traveller) after the Subuh Prayer
The Sunnah traveler recites a prayer that is read after dawn.
In addition he also pronounced a prayer as narrated in the book of Ibn Sinni through Abu Barzah, who recounts that the Messenger of Allah, when finished from the Morning Prayer, read the following prayer in a loud voice until the Companions heard it:
Allaahumma ashlih lii diinil ladzii ja’altahu ‘ishmata amrii, Allaahumma ashlih lii dunyaa yallatii ja’alta fiihaa ma’aasyii (3x).
Allaahumma ashlih lii aakhiratil latii ja’alta ilaihaa marji’ii (3x).
Allaahumma a’uudzu biridhaaka min sakhathika. Allaahumma a’uudzu bika minka (3x).
Laa maa ni’a limaa a’thaita, walaa mu’thiya limaa mana’ta, walaa yanfa’u dzal jaddi minkal jaddu.
“O Allah, repair me for my religion which You have made as my custodian. O God, repair me for my world that You have made me my life (3 times).
O God, repair me for my hereafter which Thou hast made only unto her my return (3 times).
O God, I take refuge in Your pleasure from Your wrath. O God, I take refuge in You from Your punishment (3 times).
There is no one who rejects what You give, no one can give what you reject, and no benefit in Your sight the majesty of the person who has greatness.”

The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. (Psalm 121:8)
Summer is the season for travel. Vacations, weddings, family reunions, and adventures call us from shore to shore to enjoy and explore the world in all its beauty. Days are filled with planning and packing in preparation for the events. Expectations are high, and kids squeal with delightful anticipation.
There’s much to do to prepare, but there might be one important thing you’re forgetting: don’t neglect to include prayer in your trip planning.
Prayer is inviting God into the process. God gave the earth to mankind and put us in charge. He doesn’t take back by force what He has delegated to us. He’s not a micromanager, yet He is keenly interested in the details of our lives. He responds to our requests for His wisdom and His help.
“How, and when?” you might ask. When we ask! The Bible is clear: “You have not, because you ask not (James 4:2).” God’s help is not to be presumed upon unless we go to the trouble of asking Him. He seeks relationship with us, and the doorway to relationship is communication. We communicate our needs, and He responds.
One doesn’t have to look hard to find ways to need Him every day! If travel is around the bend for you, you’ll certainly need Him. So many things can go awry on trips. Accidents arise, relationships get strained, challenges materialize, junk just happens. Pray! Pray in advance of your travel, asking God to join you in your journey. He’s all about relationship. This is real life with God: He’s the driver; you’re the passenger. He’s the pilot; you’re the co-pilot.
So before you venture on your trip, whether a simple hike, a “three hour tour,” or an exotic vacation, prepare in advance – Pre-Prayer!

I often wondered if there’s a prayer suitable for setting off for a journey or adventure. As I am not English native speaker, I pray in my mother tongue, but people from all over the world travel for ages and it seems that our fears remain the same.
What you can find below is a compilation of a few prayers I found online. You can pray by saying one (or more) of them, or combine favorite parts of different prayers into your own, personal one, as I do. Everything is up to you 🙂

„My holy angel guardian, ask the Lord to bless the journey which I undertake, that it may profit the health of my soul and body; that I may reach its end; and that, returning safe and sound, I may find all at home in good health. Do thou guard, guide, and preserve us. Amen.”

Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.”

Anglican Prayer+
„O God, our heavenly Father, whose glory fills the whole creation, and whose presence we find wherever we go: preserve those who travel; surround them with your loving care; protect them from every danger; and bring them in safety to their journey’s end; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”
Jewish Wayfarer’s Prayer
(Tefilat HaDerech)+
„May it be Your will, o Lord, our God and the God of our ancestors, that You lead us toward peace, guide our footsteps toward peace, and make us reach our desired destination for life, gladness, and peace. May You rescue us from the hand of every foe, ambush along the way, and from all manner of punishments that assemble to come to earth. May You send blessing in our handiwork, and grant us grace, kindness, and mercy in Your eyes and in the eyes of all who see us. May You hear the sound of our humble request because You are God Who hears prayer requests.
Blessed are You, our Lord, Who hears prayer. Amen.”
Irish blessings for those who travel

We are in the full throws of summertime and the 4th of July holiday is upon us. Before our families set out to attend local festivities or load the family vehicles for summer vacation, be sure to begin all things with prayer. Designate a special time before you leave out for your family to come together in your home (preferably in front of your icon corner) and give thanks to the Lord and pray for your plans and travel.
Here are prayers for travel and vacation from “My Daily Orthodox Prayer Book” compiled by +Fr. Anthony coniaris as well as the beatiful website, OrthodoxPrayer.org, both dedicated to classic, traditional Orthodox Christian prayer.
Prayers Before Travel
Lord Jesus Christ my God, be my Companion, guide and protector during my journey. Keep me from all danger, misfortune and temptation. By Your divine power grant me a peaceful and successful journey and safe arrival. In You I place my hope and trust and You I praise, honor and glorify, together with Your Father and Holy Spirit now and forever and ever. Amen.
Lord Jesus, You traveled with the two disciples after the resurrection and set their hearts on fire with Your grace. Travel also with me and gladden my heart with Your presence. I know, Lord, that I am a pilgrim on this earth, seeking the citizenship which is in heaven. During my journey surround me with Your holy angels and keep me safe from seen and unseen dangers. Grant that I may carry out my plans and fulfill my expectations according to Your will. Help me to see the beauty of creation and to comprehend the wonder of Your truth in all things. For You are the way, the truth and the life, and to You I give thanks, praise and glory forever. Amen.
A Vacation Prayer (pg 180; “My Daily Orthodox Prayer Book”)
Dear Lord, how we’ve waited for this vacation, and now it’s finally here. Thank You, Lord, for the opportunity to take a break from our daily routines and to replenish our minds, bodies and souls so they we may better serve You. Sometimes our expectations for vacations are unrealistic, and we find ourselves disappointed when things don’t go our way. Help us not to worry about having the ‘perfect’ vaction but to relax and enjoy every moment, whatever it may bring. We are grateful for the joys that await us-whether they be the beauty of your creation, recreation with family or friends, or peace and solitude. Watch over us and protect us as we travel, and brings us safely home again-refreshed and renewed. Amen.
We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday!
