Broken resolutions.
Spiritual strongholds.
Bad habits.
Toxic relationships.
Painful memories.
Crippling fear.
Past sins.
Stifling bitterness.
Is it possible to be free from these weights and walk in victory?
If you’re a Christ-follower, based on the authority of God’s Word, the answer is a resounding yes.
Ponder these passages, and consider praying the Scriptures as you share your heart with the Lord. Christ died to free you from sin’s penalty in eternity, and from its power right now. Having already given His life for your freedom, He’ll not deny you the grace you need to be victorious!
Prayer for Victory
Claim the promise that the Lord your God is the One who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory (Deuteronomy 20:4).
Confess to the Lord that those who remain steadfast under trial are blessed, for when they have stood the test they will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love Him. Pray that He would give you a steadfast spirit that will endure under temptation (James 1:12).
Pray that you wouldn’t rely on your own power, but would be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Commit to God that you will put on His whole armor each day, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. Acknowledge that you don’t wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:10-12).
Rejoice in God’s provision which allows you to proclaim, “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” Praise Him for the victory over sin and death, made available through our Lord Jesus Christ. Ask for His grace to help you be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain (I Corinthians 15:55-58).
Ask that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him, having the eyes of your heart enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which He has called you, what are the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of His power toward you who believe, according to the working of His great might that He worked in Christ when He raised him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places (Ephesians 1:17-20). Marvel at the truth that the same power that raised Christ from the dead is now within you. Ask God to show you how to apply that power to secure victory in your life.
Exult in God’s promise that everyone who has been born of Him overcomes the world. Ponder the truth that your faith is the victory that has overcome the world (I John 5:4), and ask the Lord to strengthen your faith.
Dear Heavenly Father, how I thank You for the sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus Christ, which secured victory for me and for all of Your children. Thank You for our eternal victory over death, and for our immediate victory over sin. Please grant me a deeper understanding of Your power on my behalf, that I may steward it well, applying it and walking in victory. It’s in the name of my Savior, Jesus Christ, that I pray. Amen.
