Part of preparing ourselves for a new little one is spending time in prayer for our baby’s health and spiritual well-being. A couple of months ago, I was convicted that I wasn’t spending much time in prayer for the baby specifically. We included the baby in prayers for our family but I wanted to be more intentional about speaking Scripture over my unborn child!
I spent some time looking through my Bible and using Bible Gateway to find some beautiful passages that speak precious promises and God’s truth over your baby! You can certainly pray these over all of your children, as we know that the Word of God accomplishes the purpose for which it was sent (Isaiah 55:11-12) and that Scripture prayed over your family has great power.
Further down this post, you’ll find the link to download the printable prayer cards!
I’ve also created a free printable with the fourteen verses I chose in case you would like to print it out and have it nearby when you have prayer time (it’s an 8×10 so you could trim and frame it or put it in a page protector as is). They are mostly NASB and NKJV with a KJV verse thrown in because I liked the way it was phrased better than the other versions.
I’m planning to use these at night before bed and hopefully can include my older children in praying these over the baby during devotions. They are wonderful for memorization as well and can easily be used in a two-week cycle. Here are the verses I chose, feel free to look them up in your favorite version!
Psalm 139:14 – “I will give thanks to you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well.”
Philippians 1:6 – “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in your will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Psalm 127:3-5 – “Behold, children are a gift of the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; They will not be ashamed when they speak with their enemies in the gate.”
3 John 4 – “I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth.”
Isaiah 54:13 – “All thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of Thy children.”
Psalm 90:17 – “Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us; and confirm for us the work of our hands; yes, confirm the work of our hands.”
2 Peter 3:18 – “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.”
Psalm 138:8 – “The Lord will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever; do not forsake the works of Your hands.”
2 Thessalonians 3:3 – “But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.”
Colossians 2:2 – “That their hearts may be encouraged, having been knit together in love, and attaining to all the wealth that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a true knowledge of God’s mystery, that is, Christ Himself.”
Titus 3:5-6 – “He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior.”
Psalm 37:23 – “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way.”
Psalm 145:4 – “One generation shall praise Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts.”
1 Samuel 1:27 – “For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition which I asked of Him.”
You’ll notice almost half of them are from the Psalms. I love how the poetry and promises of this book of the Old Testament!
There are many, many verses that I’m sure I have not included, so if you have some that you currently pray over your children, please feel free to mention them in the comments!

For mothers to be, praying for their unborn child is just one way to gain peace. While waiting for the birth of your child, share one of these great prayers for unborn babies to receive God’s blessing.
Praise Your name and thank You Father for the little baby that is about to be born. Lord we pray that you would protect this little infant that is being knit together in his mother’s womb and we pray Lord that You would undertake for a safe delivery at the right time.
Thank You that You know every intimate detail of this little life and we pray that by Your grace You would open the best path for this little one to take. May this baby grow up to know and love the Lord Jesus, which will make him wise unto salvation.. as did the young Timothy who was taught the holy Scriptures at the knee of his mother and grandmother.
We pray Your protection and grace for this little baby who is shortly to take his place in the world and ask that he may grow in wisdom and understanding – finding grace and favor with man and God.
Guard and protect both mother and child as the day for delivery draws ever closer and keep them from all the perils and dangers of this life – looking to Jesus in Whom is life and light and help and wholeness. We ask this in Jesus name,
Heavenly Father, how we praise and thank You for the little baby that is growing in secret, inside of me. Lord this is such a wonderful miracle and I give thanks and praise for what You have done in me.
Lord – we truly are fearfully and wonderfully made and to realize that You have scheduled every day of our precious baby’s life already is a wonderful thought. I pray Lord that You would protect this little one as he or she is being prepared to be born into the world. Place Your hand of blessing upon them and I pray that they will grow up to know and love You Lord Jesus.
Prepare me too Lord for parenthood and give me wisdom and grace as I get ready for the day when a new little life will be born into the world. Thank You for giving me the privilege of being the parent of this little baby, in Jesus,
Heavenly Father, I do praise and thank You for my children and for bringing them safely to adulthood, and what a joy it is to know that this thrilling gift of new human life has been given to my own child – as we wait for the birth of their unborn baby – my own little grand-child.
How wonderful to realize that this.. as yet unborn treasure is a gift of God’s grace to our family. How precious to realize that this little baby is created in Your image for which we thank and praise You.
Guard and protect we pray this little life from all dangers and complications as he or she is being formed in the womb and we pray that Your hand of blessing and grace may rest upon the whole family. Lord I just want to say thank You for this little grand-child and for the joy that has already flooded our hearts as we wait in anticipation for the day when this new little person will join our family circle – in Jesus name we pray,
Heavenly Lord – You are the author of life and we pray Your blessing and protection over this little life that is developing in its mother’s womb. We pray that you would grant an uncomplicated pregnancy and a healthy birth and we bless You for the beauty of new life.
Guard and protect the mother and fill her heart with longing and expectation as it draws closer to her time of delivery and instill in her a sense of wonder and awe at the miracle of life that is being formed within her body.
Give grace we pray to the father, who by Your favor has fathered this child. Grant him strength, wisdom and the courage to engage in all godly responsibilities toward his family. May he lead his family into the path of righteousness – becoming a genuine example of man of God.
Draw near to each one and may this little life that is soon to take up his or her position within the home and family be nurtured in the things of God and come to trust the Lord Jesus as Lord and Savior, in Whose name we pray,
In the name of the Lord Jesus I bring my unborn child to You Lord and thank You for this gift of grace that has been granted to me. Lord You have heard my prayers as you did Hannah in the bible and have granted me the privilege of bringing a new little life into the world. I pray that my pregnancy may be free of complications and that my little baby will be born perfectly healthy and complete.
Lord I pray that your hand of grace would be on this child not only in the womb but once he is born. May he come to know and love You Lord and grow into a strong and healthy little child who comes to know the Lord Jesus as his Savior.
Father I thank and praise You for all the great things that you have done for me and for all the things as yet unknown that You have in store for us all. Lord I love you and stand in awe of the wonderful miracle of life that is growing inside of me and lift up my hands to praise Your glorious name,
Almighty God, our Father,
you who have given us life
and intended us to have it forever,
grant us your blessings.
Enlighten our minds to an awareness
and to a renewed conviction
that all human life is sacred
because it is created
in your image and likeness.
Help us to teach by word
and the example of our lives
that life occupies the first place,
that human life is precious
because it is the gift of God
whose love is infinite.
Give us the strength to defend human life
against every influence
or action that threatens or weakens it,
as well as the strength
to make every life more human
in all its aspects.
Give us the grace…
When the sacredness of life
before birth is attacked,
to stand up and proclaim
that no one ever has the authority
to destroy unborn life.
When a child is described as a burden
or is looked upon only as a means
to satisfy an emotional need,
to stand up
and insist that every child is a unique
and unrepeatable gift of God,
a gift of God
with a right to a loving
and united family.
When the institution of marriage
is abandoned to human selfishness
or reduced to a temporary conditional arrangement
that can easily be terminated,
to stand up and affirm
the indissolubility of the marriage bond.
When the value of the family is threatened
because of social and economic pressure,
to stand up and reaffirm
that the family is necessary
not only for the private good of every person,
but also for the common good of every society,
nation and state.
When freedom is used to dominate the weak,
to squander natural resources and energy,
to deny basic necessities to people,
to stand up and affirm
the demands of justice and social love.
give us courage to proclaim the supreme dignity
of all human life and to demand
that society itself give its protection.
We ask this in your name,
through the redemptive act
of your Son and in the Holy Spirit.
I want to encourage all the couples who are expecting a baby must start praying for their child since from the womb. We need to confess Gods word, Blessings on an unborn child. We need to pray for babies’ protection and health even though it’s in a womb. When we do this Holy Spirit fills the child and the baby will grow in Godliness craving for Jesus Christ. Even after the child is born we being parents always need to continue to pray for our children, even if they are old. I encourage Parents to take time to pray over your children in every area of their life so that everything goes well in their life. When we pray for our children we invite Gods power, Gods presence and ever-increasing faith in God in their life.
Father, In the name of Jesus Christ I come before You and humble myself to confess and repent all of my known and unknown sins and I confess the sins and iniquities of my parents, grandparents, and all other ancestors and I ask for your forgiveness.
In the mighty name of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by the power of His blood, my unborn baby is surrounded by the hedge of divine protection and blessed to have a perfect health in the womb and after birth. I commit my children’s to you as a living sacrifice and will raise them in the admonition of the Lord by the strength of your Word so that they will become great men and women of God and call me blessed.
In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray and confess that the environment of my delivery will be charged with Gods presence. Only the Doctors, Nurses, support staff and Persons ordained by God will be present at the point of my delivery and every equipment that shall be used upon me and on my unborn baby be cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ.
In the name of Jesus Christ, I wash you and the unborn baby in His Most Precious Blood.
Lord Jesus, your word says you are our strength,
Lord, I declare today that your strength will our portion from this time till birth.
Lord, I command the angles of God to be midwives and doctors to undertake the delivery operations.
I soak the labor ward in the blood of Jesus.

Any sickness and disease that is attached to unborn babies and mothers are far from you in Jesus name.
Any ancestral link with this pregnancy is broken and thrown into the abyss in Jesus name.
Thank you, Jesus, Amen.

In the name of Jesus Christ and through his powerful Blood this mom and her unborn baby are blessed to have a heavenly care and perfect health. Their safety comes from the Lord they will have a safe delivery.
I apply the blood of Jesus Christ to every hidden sickness in their life as well as her unborn baby’s life. Let the blood of Jesus Christ stand between and any sickness and diseases that could possibly come against them. Lord bless her to nurse her baby with her breast milk, until her baby is satisfied.
Lord, every evil inner voice speaking discouragement, sickness and disease, negative dreams and imaginations, unbelief and impossibility to her safe delivery be silenced, in the name of Jesus Christ and through his Powerful Blood.
Lord, you are her dwelling place, and let her rest in the knowledge that evil will not come near them and no sickness or infirmity will strike her or her unborn child. I pray that her child will be born healthy and completely whole.
In Jesus Name I bodily confess all these things and seal it in your precious name. Amen.
Father, in Jesus’ name, I confess Your Word this day over my pregnancy and the birth of my child. I ask You to quickly perform Your Word, trusting that it will not go out from You and return to You void, but rather that it will accomplish that which pleases You. Your Word is quick and powerful and discerns my heart intentions and the thoughts of my mind.
Right now I put on the whole armor of God so that I may be able to stand against the tricks and traps of the devil. I recognize that my fight is not with flesh and blood, but against principalities, powers, and the rulers of darkness and spiritual wickedness in high places. God, I stand above all, taking the shield of faith and being able to quench the attacks of the devil with Your mighty power. I stand in faith during this pregnancy and birth, not giving any room to fear, but possessing power, love, and a sound mind, as Your Word promises in 2 Timothy 1:7.
Heavenly Father, I confess that You are my Refuge; I trust You during this pregnancy and childbirth. I am thankful and that You have put angels to watch over me and my unborn child. I cast all the care and burden of this pregnancy over on You, Lord. Your grace is sufficient for me through my pregnancy; You strengthen my weaknesses.
Father, Your Word declares that my unborn child was created in Your image, fearfully and wonderfully made to praise You. You have made me a joyful mother, and I am blessed with a heritage from You as my reward. I commit this child to You, Father, and pray that he or she will grow and call me blessed.
I am not afraid of pregnancy or childbirth because I fixed and trusting upon You, Father. I believe that my pregnancy and childbirth will be void of all problems. Thank You, Father, that all decisions regarding my pregnancy and delivery will be godly, that the Holy Spirit will intervene. Lord, You are my Dwelling Place, and I rest in the knowledge that evil will not come near me or no sickness or infirmity will strike me or my unborn child. I know that Jesus died on the cross to take away my sickness and pain. Having accepted Your Son, Jesus, as my Savior, I confess that my child will be born healthy and completely whole. Thank You, Father, for the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus that has made me and my child free from the law of sin and death!
Father, thank You for protecting me and my baby and for our good health. Thank You for hearing and answering my prayers.
Father, I thank You for filling my womb with life. I know this precious little baby comes from You and has been destined by You from the beginning of the world. I thank You for this miracle growing inside me, in the “secret place” of my womb. I thank you that You are giving this little baby to us as a gift, but also as a gift for the world. We can’t wait to see another image of Yourself come forth into this world and the plans You have for this child.
We ask you, Father, in Jesus’ name, to hedge our little baby about with Your mighty protection. Watch over this little one each day as You intricately create him/her in the hidden sanctuary of the womb. We ask for Your divine health and that you will sustain me in good health and vitality throughout this whole pregnancy.
I ask that You will fill me with Your joy and that everyone will see the glory of God upon me as I nurture this precious life within me. Thank You again for this amazing miracle and for giving us an eternal soul that will live forever. It is awesome to think that I am part of something eternal.
I pray that You will keep this baby growing in the womb until full term and this baby will come forth in Your perfect timing.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
Here is a special pregnancy prayer for mothers provided by the Senior Pastor of Thy Divine Hands Ministries. As a gifted prayer warrior, say these words to help motivate, heal, and spread the word of God.
Walking through a miscarriage has opened my eyes to a very real battle I didn’t even know existed. At the end of this article, you are welcome to watch a youtube video of my husband and I share our raw thoughts 4 days post our miscarriage.
Many Christian women feel unallowed to grieve the loss of their unborn babies.
Now, for the record, I am very thankful for the community God has placed us in because I do not feel rushed to heal or be DONE grieving.
I have had many people ask me why this miscarriage has been SO hard on us as a family as if we shouldn’t be so upset over it.
Some have never experienced a miscarriage, and genuinely just can not understand, but know many people who have, yet they never expressed the grief like we have. If this is you, DO NOT EVER TELL A GRIEVING MOTHER YOU KNOW HOW SHE FEELS. You can weep with her without saying that.
Some who have experienced a miscarriage didn’t quite experience the same level of physical suffering or grief over the loss.
However, an overwhelming many have implied that they too have felt pressure from the culture or their families to suck it up and move on as if they didn’t just lose a child!
And if those mothers are not empowered to grieve the way God designed them to, imagine how many children are also being discouraged from grieving.
What message is being sent to the children of today when unborn babies die and life is expected to go on without a care, without a pause, a reflection or a tear?
We wonder why our world, the youth, and young adults of today seem distant from morality… this is just one reason! As soon as we teach one generation not to blink at death, at any point, we have encouraged immorality.
All I can say, is I am shocked.
I believe this is ONE more example of how the humanistic philosophies and certain left wing political agendas have influenced the CHURCH.
Satan is subtle, but we know that he is out to seek, kill, and destroy. It’s his nature.
Even though many Christians call themselves PRO-LIFE, they don’t realize how the world’s perspective on the unborn babies has negatively impacted their support of women who experience pregnancy loss.
If we truly believe that a baby is created by God in a mother’s womb, when a baby dies we shouldn’t treat that grief as if it were tissue or an alien, because IT WASN’T!
If we believe what Scripture says in Jeremiah 1:5 that, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you;” and we proclaim and fight for the right of the unborn, how come so many mothers are ashamed to grieve when their baby dies in their womb? How come so many women, fathers, and siblings can’t celebrate their baby’s life or mourn their earthly death?
That’s on us– the Body of Christ. Why don’t a HUGE population of our Sisters in Christ, feel comfortable to grieve for however long they need to.
How come one out of three women suffer a miscarriage, and one out of six pregnancies ends in miscarriage yet so many women have never told anyone of their pain, their suffering?
This is a cultural problem if we women think that others don’t value our babies enough because they weren’t born yet. God cares! God knew them before they were formed in our wombs. He had and has a purpose for their life. There are beautiful lessons to learn about God as we embrace every season we walk through, the hard ones as well as the joy-filled ones.
We are called to grieve differently.
This verse speaks two things to my soul.
- Because I believe in the TRUTH that sets me FREE, and the HOPE that is in Christ Jesus, I know my baby is ALIVE in Heaven with the Savior and that she is at PEACE. I do not worry about life after this one or where she or I will go because I have a secure salvation. This life is but a vapor, I will be with them in eternity soon enough. So while the world has NO HOPE, but lives in fear and despair, I can rejoice with tears of joy.
- Our grieving will literally look different than the ungodly of this world. While people are and will be ok with killing unborn babies, the godly will weep and wail because their child is lost to this world. The world believes lies, saying “it’s an alien”, and denying any connection between mama and baby. But I can tell you there is a connection. I knew her. While the world doesn’t care, I will weep because I will never hold her in my arms. I will never kiss her sweet face. I won’t get to watch her get married or have her own babies. I grieve her physical death and dream of who she would have been. We were preparing our lives to welcome her and enjoy her. Yes, we grieve the death of an unborn VERY differently than the world because we believe it was a baby! That is different than a HUGE portion of this world! To cry over the loss of a pregnancy admits there was life there! If you are for abortion and you have wept with me over this loss, I would ask you WHY? Why did you say, “sorry for your loss?” When your opinion usually is that it’s not a baby. If it isn’t a baby, your heart and soul shouldn’t be moved to weep if you truly believe that it wasn’t a baby. Is it only a baby if the pregnant mom wants her baby? So, yes, we Christians should grieve differently than the world and one way we do is by grieving what the world does not.
See, I am finding that all kinds of people have been weeping with us. Thousands of people have been reaching out actually and not all of them are Christ-followers. I believe that deep down inside, most people know it was a baby.
I am finding as I seek the face of my Father in heaven, searching to know my daughter and the purpose of her short life more, I am exhorted, humbled, encouraged, and challenged by the Scriptures and her short life is teaching me more about my Lord and Savior. There is joy in my heart even in the midst of grieving.
While we have experienced very gentle, prayer-filled love from others, my heart breaks for those who were not encouraged to grieve, who were not allowed the time to heal in their way.
Not everyone grieves or processes the same.
What I am learning, living in a family of nine is that everyone grieves in their own way.
As parents, what we need to do is create a culture that allows each person to grieve the way God designed them.
For some, like myself, verbally expressing the lessons learned is healing, freeing, and I am encouraged as I obey Scripture by declaring God’s goodness in the midst of trials. It’s one way I lead my heart back to God when I am tempted to wonder–to preach to myself His will found in the Bible.
Some grieve internally. They think a lot and need space to process what happened, what it means, and to even think about how to respond.
Some are hit with grieve right away and others take time–and sometimes it doesn’t hit for a while.
Some understand the importance of worship and praise during grief and dedicate themselves to focusing on Christ fully but that doesn’t mean they aren’t sad at times.
Some cry, some get mad at first, others experience fear, some experience all of these emotions.
We need to allow each other to walk through the valleys each person is on, walking gently, speaking gently, and above all else LISTENING FULLY. This is one burden only Jesus can carry.
When we seek to understand another’s heart, then we earn the right to help direct them when they wonder. But if one doesn’t LISTEN, misunderstands, and assumes incorrectly they can push the grieving one away and cause more damage and hurt.
One of the worst feelings a grieving person can experience is feeling misunderstood.
Grief is disorienting.
It’s true, especially for someone who is experiencing grief for the first time– like a child.
How is our family doing this, all nine of us? Together.
Be patient and walk together unconditionally allowing your children to express their fears, share their feelings, and especially cry.
How did Jesus grieve?
Another dear friend of ours visited me in the hospital the morning after my surgery. I was just processing everything, after having two full days of crying. He said to me, “What was the first thing Jesus did when He visited Lazarus at the tomb? He wept. Jesus wept.”
In that moment, I knew it was not only ok to weep, but that Jesus Christ Himself had modeled for us how to grieve. He wept!
Be Strong and Courageous
“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” Duet. 31:6
In a culture that tells women to be tough as men, to not show weakness, we need to be reminded that STRONG WOMEN WEEP.
If you want to model for your children Biblical grief then cry.
Weep with those who weep. Romans 12:15
Be willing to model for your kids what biblical friendship looks like and go and weep with those in your life who need to weep!
And when it’s time to rejoice, be their BIGGEST CHEERLEADER EVER!
It’s Good for EVERYONE if you grieve!
If you are a momma who is grieving a recent loss of a baby or child, I want to empower and embolden you to grieve, however, God designed you too!
We are in this world, but we are NOT to be like it (Romans 12). One way we should be different is in both HOW WE GRIEVE and HOW WE CARE FOR ONE ANOTHER WHEN WE GRIEVE!
We can grieve in a way that brings God glory!
Worship Him, praise Him, exalt Him, and in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight.
“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.” Matthew 5:4, KJV
“You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance. Selah” Psalm 32:7, ESV
To close, my husband and I share in this video our raw heart after our miscarriage. I hope it is an encouragement.

1. “Women did such things and went on doing them while the sun died because in all of women’s lives there were so many moments that would kill the mind if one thought about them, which would suck the heart and the life out of one, and engrave lines in the face and put gray in the hair if ever one let one’s mind work; but there was in the rhythm and the fascination of the stitches a loss of thought, a void, a blank, that was only numbers and not even that, because the mind did not need to count, the fingers did, the length of a thread against the finger measured evenly as a ruler could divide it, the slight difference in tension sensed finely as a machine could sense, the exact number of stitches keeping pattern without really the need to count, but something inward and regular as the beat of a heart, as the slow passing of time which could be frozen in such acts, or speeded past.”
