A Short Prayer for Guidance
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your guidance. Forgive me for getting ahead of Your plans, and help me know when to stop and listen for Your direction. Your ways are perfect, Lord. Thank You for offering gentle grace. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer for Guidance from the Holy Spirit
Lord, I pray you would move the Spirit more boldly in my life. I know that any sin can grieve and diminish the voice of the Spirit, and I pray against the temptation to sin. Help me crave your presence more than I crave sin. Help me grow in the fruit of the Spirit and so walk closer with Yourself. I pray for guidance from your Spirit- let your will and promises always be a meditation of my heart. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

A Prayer for Guidance When Life is Challenging
Lord, I’m here today with open hands and an open heart, ready to depend on you to help me through the day and all it will bring my way. Help me be like Nehemiah, help me come to you for guidance, strength, provision and protection. As I face tough choices and hard situations, help me remember my belovedness, help me remember that I am Your child and Your representative to the world around me. Help me live today in a way that brings honor to Your holy name. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer for Guidance in the Day Ahead
Good morning, Lord! Today’s a new day, a chance for a new start. Yesterday is gone and with it any regrets, mistakes, or failures I may have experienced. It’s a good day to be glad and give thanks, and I do, Lord. Thank you for today, a new opportunity to love, give, and be all that you want me to be.
Today I want to start the day with you on my mind and in my heart. As I dress, let me wear the armor you’ve provided daily: the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, the belt of truth, the shoes of peace, and the sword of the spirit—with prayer on my tongue: praise for you and petitions for those around me and those I meet.
Feed me today with your daily bread. As the Bread of Life, your food, like manna, will sustain me throughout any trials and hungers. Help me to set my thoughts on things above and to speak only what will help and encourage others. Keep me from putting my foot in my mouth, and help me guard the affections of my heart today, Lord. Make whatever work I do be marked with excellence rather than perfectionism, as I seek not to make a name, but to make a difference. Help me to treat each person I encounter as you would, with respect and love, forgiving others and asking for forgiveness myself when needed.
As I start this day, help me remember that I belong to you, and my desire is to act accordingly. Keep my feet from stumbling and my mind from wandering into distractions that could steal precious time and energy from the most important things you have designed for me. I’m proud to be your child, Lord. And I’m so grateful that you died for me—rising again on your own new morning—so that every day could be filled with the wonder of your love, the freedom of your Spirit, and the joy of knowing you.
I know earthly life is short and fleeting, Lord. But I want to live today as if it were the first or the last day of my life, giving thanks for every good and perfect gift you choose to give. Today, and every day, I want to live my life for you, Jesus. In your precious name, Amen.

A Prayer for Discernment and Wisdom When You Need God’s Direction
Lord, thank You for the people You have divinely placed in my life who speak holy truth, love and words of wisdom. Give me a heart of discernment to know when You are using someone to speak instruction into my heart and my circumstances, and give me the strength and courage to follow through with that advice, even when it’s hard. Fill me with peace in knowing that even if I take a wrong turn, Your purpose will prevail. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

I marvel at favor. It is the manifestation of God’s goodness, expressed into our lives through the unmerited kindness and favor of people. Being witness to favor is a beautiful part of parenting that no one warned me about.
As a parent, your heart walks outside of your body. It is the ultimate sacrifice of control. Protection and control are in God’s hands, not yours. In my short year of being a first time parent the experience of seeing favor being showered onto my child is a visual reminder to me of all of the small ways in which God sprinkles love onto us and of how well cared-for we are in the palm of His hands. I really believe that God deepens our understanding of His goodness by allowing us to be witness to the lives and blessings of our own children, for when someone blesses Ellie with a smile, with kindness or with attention, I feel inordinately blessed.
Looking into the azure blue eyes of my little girl makes me well up with pride. Ellie is a walking answer to prayer. My prayers over her while in utero are being visibly walked out as she teeters through the world, finding favor and lighting up joy with every person she meets. The favor Ellie finds with others isn’t a coincidence, but rather, it is answered prayer. It has nothing to do with me, and everything to do with God.
All of my proud momma feelings aside, I pray that my heart might be pure as I lead my little girl to love others well. I pray that, with every interaction both she and I have, that we might live out the purpose of love. That, in whatever occurs, the person with whom our lives touch, might feel the overflow of God’s love through us.
As I take witness to the miracle of a baby turning into a little girl, and watch the intricate changes of development on a day-to-day basis, my prayers have new focus: I pray for kindness, courage and capacity.
I pray for kindness in her heart, that she might express …
Kindness in noticing others
Kindness in slowing down to love
Kindness in the value of a smile
Kindness in the value of companionship
Kindness is having a heart filled with wonder
I pray for courage in her heart, that she might live out …
Courage to explore the world with confidence
Courage to try things after failing
Courage to make new friends
Courage to express her likes and dislikes
Courage to form her own personality
I pray for capacity in her heart, that she might grow in her …
Capacity to love others well.
Capacity to fill her mind with words.
Capacity to emotionally process experiences
Capacity to see people for who they are
Capacity to light up a room with her smile
Capacity to inspire laughter.
As I continue to sit front row to the unfolding live of my little Ellie, and I witness His favor bestowed upon her life, I have peace in my heart over the purpose that God has for each one of us. I have confidence in Ellie’s place in this world – and confidence that she is a little, walking reflection of His love. I pray that I might never lose sight of our true purpose here on Earth – to shine light where there is darkness and to love like Jesus loved.

Dear Father, your will is perfect and I am constantly grateful for the grace you’ve shown me in my life. You’ve blessed me with so much and enabled me to triumph over many sufferings. No matter what though, I am always constantly unemployed despite the great people skills you have given me, I just seem to fall short in clarity for my future and where I would be best used. Lord I ask you will provide me with a purpose in this life, that I may not remain a taker, but a giver. That I will not depend on other people’s generosity, but myself alone may be able to provide generosity and enable myself a life of purpose and meaning in employment. I pray that this will be within the confines of your will. I pray for a job that not only reveals to me new skills and abilities, but a sense of purpose and joy. I pray that this job will allow me to be a blessing to other people as well as make the money needed to provide food, shelter and a happy livelihood for future family members.
Thank you loving Father for your grace. Help me to continue in your love.
Return to 7 Daily Prayers to Get You Through The Week
Praying with purpose is simply praying for God to fulfill what He has already begun. Since God’s work is always a story, our best praying will be part of an ongoing story. Instead of using prayer as a quick-fix procedure that will supposedly get results if performed correctly, your prayer becomes a way of collaborating with God.
God is already on the move
We’re not pushing to get God started. He’s already doing good things; and He has promised to do even better things, both great and small. Instead of holding off the worst, our praying can ask for God to bring on the best.
God’s favorite way to be glorified
God is the one who is orchestrating the united prayer of which we are a part. He’s the one stimulating us to pray as never before. Why is He doing this? God is about to do some of the most amazing things that He has ever done. He wants us to pray for them all before they take place. That way He can explicitly receive thanks for doing them. God is setting us up to give Him much more glory than if we hadn’t prayed, or if we had only prayed privately about our personal concerns. Answered prayer could be God’s favorite way of being glorified.
Because there’s joy in it
God doesn’t need our prayers, but He wants us to experience the joy of working with Him in bringing new life to many others. And the joy is even greater when we find that we have labored with many others for the fulfillment of promises, some of them for many centuries.
Pursuing God’s purpose
God has been unfolding His purpose throughout the earth for thousands of years. This grand story will culminate with Christ becoming both famous and followed in every community. As you pray your way into this epic story, your prayers will become a pursuit of Christ’s glory and His kingdom. As you stretch your prayers longer and larger, you will do an even better job of praying for everyday needs of others. You’ll be praying in hope.
The following articles will give you some thoughtful and practical ways to pray with God’s greater purposes.
Praying With Missionaries Instead of for Them
What shall we pray when praying with missionaries? We are accustomed to focusing on prayer points and specific actions and ask with precise timing in mind. This is wise and right. We should be as specific as we can in our praying. But ultimately God gives us better than we ask. We almost always find that God answers our prayers differently and better than we prayed. How does He always outdo our best praying?
As a child I often heard church folks “pray for missionaries.” Missionaries were usually described as struggling in some way, somehow in desperate need. Our prayers, it was often said, were the “lifeline” of the missionaries.
Despite my imagination of missionaries dangling by a fraying rope over crocodile-infested rivers, the “lifeline” prayers intoned in routine fashion seemed particularly lifeless to me. The generic prayers for protection and supply seemed a dreary but necessary duty. Little wonder I grew up with a profound respect for missionaries but no real interest in praying for them.

Find out how Jesus instilled “passionate stamina” in His followers that sustained some extraordinary prayer. This article, published in PrayerConnect Magazine, describes a global prayer movement that means many are not just praying more, we are praying differently. An excerpt:
In our day, many global movements of prayer are finding that their prayers are not just surging. Our prayers are converging as we pray for His Kingdom to come and His glory to be great. May our Lord impart the passionate stamina of the upper room, so that we may resolutely focus on what He will accomplish to fulfill all of His purposes in every people and place.

Praying Beyond Fix-it Prayers: But I Have Prayed for You
Pray for God to complete what He’s doing in the lives of the people you love. It can be surprising to realize how Jesus’ prayer for His friend Peter reached beyond an immediate crisis toward an important fulfillment of God’s purpose for Peter’s entire life.
Can you recall the last time someone told you that he or she was praying for you? No doubt it was meant to reassure you. Telling people that you’ve prayed for them is a loving way of encouraging them or cheering them on.
Only once do we find Jesus telling someone that He had prayed for that person. And what He said about His prayer was not a reassuring platitude. Jesus was not offering up a simple fix-it prayer aimed to deal with obvious, right-now needs. Instead, His prayer focused on…

Be Assured That You are Heard
The opening line may draw you in. The solid biblical theology can help keep you persistent in appealing to God on behalf of others before His throne.
It may surprise you, but the Bible never says that God answers prayer. In all the books of the Bible, in the original languages anyway, you will never find one time which specifically says that God answers prayer. What you will find are hundreds of times that God responds…
