Prayers for faith and trust

“As a child of God, you ought to expect God to answer your prayers. Do you ask God to do something without adjusting your life to what you are praying? If you are praying for revival, how are you preparing for its coming? If you are praying for forgiveness, are you still living with guilt? If you have asked God to provide for your needs, do you remain worried and anxious? Ask God to increase your faith, and then begin living a life that reflects absolute trust in Him.” Henry Blackaby

Dear intercessors,

We all want God to answer our prayers. We believe in the power of prayer, but when it comes down to our own individual lives and our own problems, we often don’t have the faith to believe God will answer. The times we are living in are difficult. We are often trapped by our unbelief and fear, but God is preparing us for the end-time harvest. He wants to enlarge our territory. He wants to bless us with increase, because His nature is to care and bestow divine favor on us.

We are the ones who limit Him because of our lack of trust and our fear of stepping out in faith. The truth is that the things we do for God should be outside of our own ability and should be trusting in His supernatural ability. When we back away from dependence and trust in God, we are not living by faith. He wants us to trust and obey His Word. He wants us to be strong and courageous. We need to be willing to attempt things big enough that unless God’s steps in, we are sure to fail. This is the kind of trust and dependence He is looking for in our life. We need not be shaken. He can break through every obstacle. He is the God of the impossible!

A Prayer for Trusting God in Hard Times

Lord, I thank You that You are the God of the impossible. You can do anything. I want to trust in Your ability and not my own. Teach me to see difficulties in my life from Your perspective. Help me to focus on You and Your power. I want to be like Joshua and Caleb who believed in a good report and focused on You even in hard circumstances (Numbers 14:7-9). My responsibility is to carefully read, trust, and obey Your Word. Today I bring before You this difficulty in my life . Help me not to fear but to trust You in this situation. I declare my faith in Your ability to fulfill Your promises to me. You will fight for me and win the battles in my life. You are mighty, powerful, righteous and true.

I have nothing to fear with You on my side. I will be strong and courageous even in hard times. I will not be terrified or discouraged, for the Lord my God will be with me wherever I go (Joshua 1:9). You will never leave me or forsake me (Joshua 1:5). I do not need to figure everything out. You already know the best plan for my life. I will not try any man-made method to do only what You can do. Show me Your supernatural power. Teach me how to walk by faith and pray breakthrough prayers. I choose to have faith in Your ability to break through every obstacle in my life. Just like Joshua, You will give me the land and every place where my feet step (Joshua 1:3). “Through you we push back our enemies; through your name we trample our foes. I do not trust in my bow, my sword does not bring me victory; but you give us victory over our enemies, you put our adversaries to shame. In God we make our boast all day long, and we will praise your name forever” (Psalm 44:5-8).

“Lord, you have assigned me my portion and my cup; you have made my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance. I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. I have set the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay. You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand” (Psalm 16:5-11). In Jesus name, amen.“Faith does the impossible because it lets God undertake for us, and nothing is impossible for God. How great – without qualification or limitation – the power of faith is! If doubt can be banished from the heart and unbelief is made a stranger there, what we ask from God will surely come to pass. Prayer throws faith on God and God on the world. Only God can move mountains, but faith and prayer move God.”

Tapping into God’s Blessings

It’s important that you cultivate and build God’s presence in your life. The more you can develop an environment that’s conducive to the Holy Spirit, the more of God’s presence you will carry. The more of His presence you carry, the more power you will have.

You cultivate this environment by spending time doing whatever it takes to have the person and presence of the Holy Spirit hanging out with you.

Quickly confess and repent of the slightest leaning toward sin or spiritual darkness.

Develop your faith and trust in God and in the power He can place in our lives. The Lord is faithful to his promises and loving to all he has made.

Let us pray:

Morning Prayer for Faith

Father, help me today, to find faith in these trying times. Often I have no idea where my life is headed. I seems like my life is spinning out of control most times.

Situations come my way that I cannot face, decisions need to be made and I do not know which is the right choice. Obstacles seem insurmountable, enemies seem unbeatable. I feel scared and alone.

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

The Author and Finisher of my faith

But God… You are the author and finisher of my faith.

I trust you with my entire heart at times and other times I find my faith dwindling. I find it hard to muster that mustard seed of faith. Abba, today I pray for renewal of my faith.

Even though my future seems uncertain, I will look to you, I will keep my eyes turned to you. My spirit would be at rest knowing you are in control of my life.

Psalm 145:13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your authority endures from one generation to another.
God is faithful about everything he says and merciful in everything he does.

Take Control

Take control of not only my life God, but also my mind and renew my strength. And so, I will run and not be weary. I will walk and not faint.

Help me Abba to always know you are in control and your grace is sufficient for me. I pray all this, in the Mighty and Holy Name of Jesus, AMEN!!

James 1:6 But he must ask in faith, without any doubts, for the one who has doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.

Your Question: What is the difference between Trust and faith?

In modern use there is a difference between Faith and Trust. Faith is usually looked upon as a spiritual concept. It is considered as an allegiance or belief in a being. Trust would actually mean that a person places complete confidence and reliance in another person.

The original language and meaning

To understand what faith and trust mean in the Bible we need to go back to the original language of the New Testament – Greek. There are three primary translations of the word ‘faith’ in Greek. The noun form is ‘pistis’, the adjective form is ‘pistos’, and the verb form is ‘pisteuo’. Each form’s meaning is a variation of the word ‘trust’. Hence ‘pistis’(noun) is a trust in someone or something; ‘pistos’ (adjective) is trusting as in a trusting person and ‘pisteuo’(verb) literally means ‘I trust’. So, when we encounter ‘faith’ in Scripture we read it as ‘trust’. Therefore, biblically, trust and faith have the same meaning.

Story of the Great Blondin

Bible teachers often quote the story of the Great Blondin to illustrate what it means to have faith. Blondin was a tightrope walker whose greatest stunt was walking on a tightrope across the raging Niagara Falls pushing a wheelbarrow. Before he began his wheelbarrow stunt, when he asked the watching crowd if they believed he could do it, they all roared ‘Yes’. After the stunt when he asked them if anyone would sit in the wheelbarrow as he pushed it along the tightrope, nobody said a word.

Not only believing with our head

Faith is more than believing with our head. It also means believing with our heart and with our will. Faith in God means that we believe that God can do what He has said and that we believe it so thoroughly that we are willing to fully act upon it. This is exactly how Abraham acted in the Old Testament. In Genesis 12 God promised to give Abraham an offspring that would ultimately become a great nation (see vv. 2, 7; also 13:6). But by Genesis 15, Abraham still hadn’t had a child (vv. 2-3). God said to Abraham,

“Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” And he believed the LORD, and he counted it to him as righteousness (Genesis 15:5-6).

So God again promised Abraham that he would have many, many descendants (v. 5). And what was Abraham’s response? He believed the word of God, that is, he trusted what God had said – he trusted that he would indeed have a multitude of descendants (even though he was at least 75 years old (12:4) and his wife was at least 65 years old too (see 17:17))! This is the nature of biblical faith/trust: we trust what God has said absolutely and we act on it, living it out, even though it might appear nonsense to non-Christians around us; just as it was for Abraham to believe God would give him a child, or for Noah to build the ark because God had said he would send a flood (Gen 6:13-14). The author of Hebrews agree with this, he says faith is “being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see” (Hebrew 11:1).

True faith

True faith in God includes the English concept of trust. We have full confidence that God in Christ has given us eternal life and neither death nor life, angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, neither anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:38-39).
