A Prayer for Strength and Encouragement
By Baptist Bible Hour
The name of the LORD is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. – Proverbs 18:10
David and his men arrived home to discover the army of Amalek had burned the city and had taken their wives and children captive. They wept until they could weep no more. The loss was overwhelming.
In their grief and frustration the men blamed David and spoke of stoning him… but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God. Under God’s direction, David then led a victorious march against the Amalekites and recovered their wives and children without a single loss; but we want to give attention to David’s method of encouragement.
You may have waited for someone to come and encourage you in your night of trouble, but no one has come. So you may ask, “How can I encourage myself?” First, consider that God is still on the throne and He is your God.
There was no friend at hand to encourage David; his own men had turned against him. But when it appeared everything was lost, he turned to God for his help. He saw God as his God. He did not consider God to be at such a distance that He would not come to his rescue.
Second, remember that daybreak may be just ahead. David and his men experienced the anguish of believing their families probably had been killed, but they were all recovered safely. The old adage goes, “The darkest time of the night is just before dawn,” and dawn may soon be breaking for you.
Further, you can encourage yourself by remembering that our trials are for a good purpose. The trials themselves are burdensome and distasteful but the end is good as God teaches you more of your weakness and more of His strength.
If you find yourself in need of strength and encouragement, here is a prayer you can pray:
Lord, like David, I need your encouragement in a time of trial and anguish. Thank you that you are always on the throne, always my God, ready to save. Thank you for being the same God to me that you were to David. Thank you for always being near and always rescuing me from my fears and hurts. Lord, help me remember that daybreak might be just ahead, that this trial will not last forever. Fill me with hope that daybreak is coming and that your love will always prevail!
In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

The topic of encouragement especially when centered around religion is intricate. Beloved—here, we explain with details how prayer and encouragement come together to form our topic for today called “Prayer of Encouragement”.
Motivational Quote: Be like Barnabas the son of encouragement
Ask for the definition of encouragement and you’ll get a cliché like “Encouragement is the action of giving an individual support and it can be called motivation”. Regardless of the words and language you use though, God completely understands you. Now, how can you define encouragement as a child of the Lord? You can define it as the motivational speech that our Father (God) gives us through the ambience of his all-encompassing energy. It encourages and guides us in all the actions we’re to take in life. An example of what we mean is in the Book of Exodus. Specifically, Chapter 17, verse 11.
It says “As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning.”
In the verse above, God used Moses as His vessel to encourage the Israelites and as seen from the verse above, they won when God encouraged them. And likewise that, you will also win whenever God encourages and fights your battles for you.
How to fully use these prayers
2 Chronicles 30:22
“Then Hezekiah spoke encouragingly to all the Levites who showed good insight in the things of the LORD So they ate for the appointed seven days, sacrificing peace offerings and giving thanks to the LORD God of their fathers.”
The Holy Church of Sepulcher advises you to always use short morning prayers as breakfast every day like the Levites in the verse above.
This Prayer of encouragement is for who?
Your prayers of encouragement might be for your friend(s), a job, your day, family, love interest, Church, etcetera. Essentially, this prayer is for anyone and everyone you can think of (yourself included). Why is this so? We all simply need a pat on the back. This reassures us of our existence and importance in life. And if you ask us, there’s no one better to encourage/reassure us than our Creator Himself—Lord, Jesus Christ. In acknowledgement of that, here are the beautiful motivational prayers that you can use daily (morning, noon, and evening).
Prayer of encouragement in your faith
Father Lord God, the mightiest of the above and the divine creator of all. We firstly want to thank you for the past days we’ve lived—how you kept us far from harm’s way and sheltered our family. We also want to thank you for uplifting us when we were in doubt of your power and we hope you’ll continue to do so. Lord, like every day, we ask you to renew our faiths in you and never let us waver from our path to Your Kingdom. We will not, by Your grace, fall to any temptation and we’ll stand valiantly as Your sons and daughters in the face of sin. We thank you for the opportunity to have this prayer this morning/night and we exalt your name.
Prayer of encouragement for a friend
Lord Jesus, I have a friend who’s in need of your help. He/she has been discouraged due to one issue or the other and is now suffering from depression. I’m concerned about what he or she will do if left in this state so I pray you uplift and rejuvenate his/her spirit oh Lord. Father be with him/her and solve his/her problems because it’s within your power to do so. You’re the omniscient and omnipotent God who delivered the Israelites from the hands of the Pharaoh. You know what she’s passing through even more than him/her. So, I pray Lord Christ, that you grant him/her the necessary strength and support to pull through these circumstances. Thank you for this miracle oh Lord and we appreciate the upcoming testimonies—in Jesus Name I pray.
Prayer of encouragement, support, and strength for the family
God, as we stand before you today as a congregation, we pray for the sake of this family. We hope, oh Lord, that you empower us with your support and be our pillar of strength. Lord Jesus, we want you to encourage this family as a whole in our times of need. We’re absolutely nothing without you but we’re everything when we stand with you. So, Jesus, be with our souls and once more, give us encouragement in the form of peace, unity, and blessings.
Prayer of encouragement to start the day
Heavenly Father, I thank You for the grace You granted me through the night. You paved a good day yesterday and I worked with Your blessings on me. But now, today is a new day Lord and I need your divine favour. So, as Your presence uplifts me and Your words provides courage when needed. I likewise ask for Your encouragement in our faith to You—so as to be before You tomorrow and talk once again with Your divine being. Thank You for hearing us today—we glorify Your name. Amen.
Prayer of encouragement for healing
Father God, Your divine touch is needed in our lives. A simple touch of the hem of Your garment by the woman in Matthew 9:20 completely healed her of her ailment. We pray not to touch Your garment only Lord. We want You to embrace us and encourage our body, soul, and mind to heal in Your divine shelter. You are the most divine in all of Heavens and we need You to take charge. Exaltations we’ll give after our miracles oh Lord—thank You for our answered prayer, Amen.
Main Verse: Therefore comfort one another with these words (1 Thessalonians 4:18).
I keep my eyes always on the LORD. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
1 Corinthians 4:16
Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me.
Encourage the exhausted, and strengthen the feeble. Say to those with anxious heart, “Take courage, fear not Behold, your God will come with vengeance; The recompense of God will come, But He will save you.”
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
We live in a world full of troubling times. We live in a world where hopes and aspirations are hardly realized. There are plenty of pressure and people facing various disappointments. As believers we also sometimes become disappointed because we are the same human, we live in the same world and we are also caught up in some of these challenges. At such times like these arises a need for prayer of encouragement and strength for myself or a friend, prayer for strength for a friend.
Let’s pray these prayers, particularly if you are presently going through any difficult time or perhaps your friend or loved one is:
- Prayer of encouragement
- Prayer of encouragement to start the day
- Prayer of encouragement and strength for myself
- Prayer for strength for a friend

Lord, give me a peace of mind to meet all that the next day will bring to me. Let me fully surrender to your will. God, please come and support me at any time of the day. Whatever news I receive during this day, teach me to accept them with a calm soul and firm conviction that for all your will is. In all my words and deeds, guide my thoughts and feelings. In all unforeseen circumstances, do not let me forget that everything is sent by you, my Lord. Teach me to act directly and reasonably with each member of my family, not disturbing and not upsetting anyone. Lord, give me the power to relieve the weariness of the coming day and all the events during the day. Lead my will and teach me to pray, believe, hope, tolerate, forgive and love. Lord, I need your encouragement in all I do. I pray you in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer of encouragement and strength for myself
Father of all comfort and Grace, you are the divine source of encouragement and courage, I come to you today in absolute confidence and trust in your word, I ask for strength and courage to stand in this trying time and to come out victorious.
I draw strength and comfort in my inner man by your Holy Spirit. I decree and declare that I am strengthened spiritually, physically, emotionally, and mentally. My faith shall not grow cold, I shall finish strong, and I am more than a conqueror through Christ Jesus. I am not of them that quit and lose out, I will trust you all, for I know that my victory is assured in Christ. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer for strength for a friend
Father, I pray for a friend going through trying times. Lord, please strengthen and encourage his/her heart. God, show him/her that is always near and caring for him/her, not allowing to stay alone in the difficult situation. Let’s his/her faith in Christ don’t shake, show him/her that these trials are for a good purpose and one day he/she come out of difficult situation giving you all the glory and praise. I pray through Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
Why we need prayer of encouragement?
To encourage is to draw strength during crises. This prayer we say asking for strength during crises or just in difficult daily situations. Sometimes we pray these prayers not only for ourselves but also for our friends and loved ones who are in the crisis or passing difficult times.
John 16:33 says, “These things I have spoken unto you that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulations; but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world”. Peace does not suggest absence of war or crisis, it means finding strength and stability in the midst of them.
Psalm 61:1-2 also says, “Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I”. Bible made it clear that we won’t go through life without challenges. As believers, we should pray a prayer of encouragement and strength in such times. Only in trusting God and praying strength will be born in our hearts to hold on till victory will come.
When you go through times that appears as if the integrity of God’s word challenged, loved ones leave and relationships threaten to break down, the Savior is a prayer away. When we pray a prayer of encouragement and strength, He does not come with explanations. He comes with His very presence, releasing peace into your heart. James 5:13 “is any afflicted among you, let him pray.”
Do you remember hymn “What a friend we have in Jesus”? He is a friend both in the good and bad times. Don’t lose your peace, refuse to bear needless pains, call on Him in prayers, and He will encourage and strengthen you and your friend’s heart. Peace will come.

Saint Jude, I do believe in faith and have the tenacity to continue to pursue my goal(s) of becoming a dentist. I’m working and I do have responsibilities–to include attending school on a part-time basis to complete my requirements for graduate school.
Saint Jude, I feel all alone. I do not get any encouragement from my family, but only from a few friends. I sometimes feel discouraged and no longer want to continue. To me, perseverance is the key. But it would be a great feeling of having my family give me support and that “extra” push that I so desperately need.
