Prayers for direction and guidance from god

Throughout Scripture we are reminded of God’s direction over our lives. He is our good Shepherd who leads us and He desires that we follow the path that leads to joy and contentment.  When we pray for God’s guidance and for discernment through the Holy Spirit, we can rest assured that God will provide wisdom! We do not have to worry about our next step or about tomorrow because we know who guides our way! Do not rush your day without going before God to seek guidance!

A Short Prayer for Guidance

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your guidance. Forgive me for getting ahead of Your plans, and help me know when to stop and listen for Your direction. Your ways are perfect, Lord. Thank You for offering gentle grace. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Lord, I pray you would move the Spirit more boldly in my life. I know that any sin can grieve and diminish the voice of the Spirit, and I pray against the temptation to sin. Good morning, Lord! Today’s a new day, a chance for a new start. Yesterday is gone and with it any regrets, mistakes, or failures I may have experienced. It’s a good day to be glad and give thanks, and I do, Lord. Thank you for today, a new opportunity to love, give, and be all that you want me to be.

Today I want to start the day with you on my mind and in my heart. As I dress, let me wear the armor you’ve provided daily: the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, the belt of truth, the shoes of peace, and the sword of the spirit—with prayer on my tongue: praise for you and petitions for those around me and those I meet.

Feed me today with your daily bread. As the Bread of Life, your food, like manna, will sustain me throughout any trials and hungers. Help me to set my thoughts on things above and to speak only what will help and encourage others. Keep me from putting my foot in my mouth, and help me guard the affections of my heart today, Lord. Make whatever work I do be marked with excellence rather than perfectionism, as I seek not to make a name, but to make a difference. Help me to treat each person I encounter as you would, with respect and love, forgiving others and asking for forgiveness myself when needed.

As I start this day, help me remember that I belong to you, and my desire is to act accordingly. Keep my feet from stumbling and my mind from wandering into distractions that could steal precious time and energy from the most important things you have designed for me. I’m proud to be your child, Lord. And I’m so grateful that you died for me—rising again on your own new morning—so that every day could be filled with the wonder of your love, the freedom of your Spirit, and the joy of knowing you.

I know earthly life is short and fleeting, Lord. But I want to live today as if it were the first or the last day of my life, giving thanks for every good and perfect gift you choose to give. Today, and every day, I want to live my life for you, Jesus. In your precious name, Amen.

A Prayer for Discernment and Wisdom When You Need God’s Direction

Lord, thank You for the people You have divinely placed in my life who speak holy truth, love and words of wisdom. Psalm 25:4-5 – “Show me your ways, LORD, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.”

James 1:5 – “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

Psalm 16:7-8 – “I will praise the LORD, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. I keep my eyes always on the LORD. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.”

Are you ready to discover prayers for God’s direction?

We make an infinite number of decisions in life.

Some are clear-cut.

Others…

not so much.

What do we do when we don’t know what to do?

When there’s no apparent right answer and no obvious wrong one?

When we just want what God wants, but we have no idea what that is?

First, we remind ourselves of the truth that God doesn’t want His will to be a mystery to us.

And then we draw near to Him in faith, asking Him to guide us.

No, He won’t write the answer in the sky or tattoo it on your forehead.

But when the time is right, He’ll open doors…after He closes a few first. He’ll bring conversations, information, and opportunities your way. He’ll nudge impressions on your heart that He confirms in other ways.

His methods are limitless, but one thing is sure:

He will guide you.

Here are ten prayers for God’s direction, straight from God Himself in the pages of the Bible. Will you join me in praying the Scriptures for God’s direction?

Prayers for God’s Direction

1.)Tell God that you trust Him with all your heart, and that you don’t want to rely on your own understanding. Commit to acknowledging Him in all your ways, and let Him know you’re trusting Him to make straight your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

2.)Claim God’s promise to instruct you, to teach you in the way you should go, and to counsel you with His eye upon you. (Psalm 32:8)

3.)Affirm to God that all your ways are pure in your own eyes, and that you have trouble seeing your own errors. Ask Him to “weigh your spirit” and examine your motives. (Proverbs 16:2)

4.)Echo Jesus’ words: “I seek not My own will but the will of Him who sent me.” Let God know that you just want what He wants, and ask Him to reveal that to you in His timing. (John 5:30)

5.)Repeat these words of the psalmist: “Let me hear Your lovingkindness in the morning; For I trust in You; Teach me the way in which I should walk; For to You I lift up my soul.”(Psalm 143:8)

6.)Let God know that you’re asking for guidance, seeking His will, and knocking on the door of heaven. Claim His promise to give to those who ask, reveal to those who seek, and open to those who knock. (Matthew 7:7-8)

7.)Ask God for a humble spirit, and remind Him of His promise to lead the humble in what is right, and to teach the humble his way. (Psalm 25:9)

8.)Pray these words from Psalms: “Make me know Your ways, O LORD; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; For You I wait all the day.” (Psalm 25:4-5)

9.)Praise God for being your rock and your fortress. Profess His promise to lead you and guide you for His name’s sake. (Psalm 31:3)

10.)Ask God to teach you His way, and commit to walking in His truth. Beg Him to give you an undivided heart to fear His name. (Psalm 86:11)

Prayer #1

Heavenly Father, You give us life. You hold all power in Your hands.

In You are only good things. In You is healing of the nations. In You is freedom from worry and freedom from pain.

Today, I ask that you forgive me of my faults, my sins, and anything else that may separate me from You. In Your Spirit, Your gift of healing is alive. In You Lord, I can place my trust.

Prayer #3

Heavenly Father, I’d like to apologize to You right now.

Sometimes I forget to cast all my cares upon You, and spend more time and effort in worrying than focusing on the peace that comes from resting in Christ.

Help me to open my understanding through Your Word and realize that worry not only robs me of our joy and peace in the Lord, but is rooted in the sin of unbelief.

Whenever I am lost, please provide me with a better understanding that You alone are the One that will replace foolish worries with divine wisdom. Amen.

Prayer #4

O Lord, in this difficult time, I am on my knees before You, asking for your guidance. Wash away the world from my eyes, Lord, and make me Your vessel. Give me a sign that I may know where to go and what to do to fully honor You, God. I ask this of You, as Your humble servant. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer #5

Heavenly Father, I ask you to strengthen my mind, body and spirit today. When I’m weary, may I be refreshed. When I’m worn, may I be renewed.

When I’m broken, may I be restored. When I’m fearful, may I become faithful.

I pray that I walk in complete confidence today knowing that the Lord Almighty is with me. Amen.

Prayer #6

In the Lord’s Name, I pray for this brother/sister and ask that You, God, guide them in the way they should go. Do not abandon them in their time of need and aid them as they struggle to do Your will and to follow Your directions. Give him/her a direction to go in and strengthen their resolve in You. Lord, fill his/her heart with peace and joy and give him/her strength and courage to do Your will. In Your Name we trust, Amen.

Prayer #7

Heavenly Father, I come to You today, bowing in my heart, asking for protection from the evil one.

Lord, we are assailed moment by moment with images on television, the internet, books and newspapers that leave us vulnerable to sin of every kind.

Surround us with Your divine hedge of protection. Encompass us with Your strength and might.

Let all who take refuge in You be glad, let them ever sing for job. And may You shelter us, that those who love Your name may exult in You. Amen

Prayer #8

Lord God, in this moment of distress and uncertainty, I ask for Your wisdom and guidance to shine down on me. Help me to understand what Your plan is for my life and how to make it happen. God, I ask You to give me peace as I move forward in this world. Amen.

Prayer #9

Heavenly Father, I surrender every area of my mind, will and emotions to You.

I choose to dwell in Your goodness and faithfulness so that the good seeds You’ve planted in my life will take root.

Keep me close to You and direct my steps down the good path You have prepared for me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Prayer #10

Heavenly Father, as I arise today, I pray that Your strength pilot me, Your power uphold me, and Your wisdom guide me. May Your eye look before me, Your hand protect me and Your shield, defend me. Amen.

Prayer #11

Heavenly Father, I come to You today giving thanks.

Thank you for keeping and protecting me. Thank you for Your guidance and direction. Thank you for picking me up when I was at my lowest.

You are an awesome God and it is because of You I choose to live and walk in Your favor.

When tough times call, most people, even non Christians, often find themselves uttering a small prayer of guidance. For Christians, they understand and know that Christ has their best interest. Of course, it doesn’t make it any easier to accept uncertainty.

As a Christian one of the foremost things you do as you enter into Christianity is that you are required to fully surrender everything to the Holy Spirit’s guidance.

He will take whatever’s bad in your life and transform them inside out; turning you into the best possible person you can be under Christ.

This may seem easy but it takes a long time to finally reach the point where we can fully surrender our needs, wants and other so-called necessities and simply trust that Christ through the Holy Spirit will provide for everything.

On the other hand, entering through this relationship doesn’t mean it’ll be peaches and cake since as humans; we are predisposed to doubt and fear.

So if you find yourself in a situation where you feel like you’re going through a dark tunnel with no end in sight, here are a few important Bible Verses to remember as you utter prayer for guidance.

•  “O Lord, I know the way of a man is not in himself; it is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.” (Jeremiah 10:23)
•  “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord …” (Psalm 37:23)
•  “A man’s steps are of the Lord. How then can a man understand his own way?” (Proverbs 20:24)
•  “There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” (Proverbs 14:12)
•  “The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.” (Psalm 23:1)
• My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” (John 10:27)
•  “Direct my steps by Your word, and let no iniquity have dominion over me.” (Psalm 119:133)
•  “Show me Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation …” (Psalm 25:4)
• Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way you should go.” (Isaiah 48:17)
• For this is God, our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even to death.” (Psalm 48:14)
•  “The Lord will guide you continually …” (Isaiah 58:11)
• “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.” (Psalm 32:8)
• Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5)
• The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord …” (Psalm 37:23)
• Therefore be followers of God as dear children.” (Ephesians 5:1)
• “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” (John 10:27)

When praying, keep these verses in mind. Quote them back to the Lord and claim them as part of your life. You are a child of God, and he does have beautiful plans for you and your life.

Even though uncertainty and other problems might beset you right now, rest assured that the Lord is always there to help and guide you. All you have to do is ask for his help.
