Prayers for change in my life

Lord God Almighty, the path You have set before me is a long and narrow one. There are bridges to burn, mountains to climb and oceans to cross.

I know it’s not going to be easy. But, Lord, the toughest roads lead to the most beautiful destination. And, with You by my side through it all, I will make it to Your heavenly kingdom, where I will dine with You at Your table.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord. Plans for peace and not of harm, to give you a future and a hope.

Isaiah 40:31 But those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not be faint.

Overcoming Temptations

As I seek You in the expectation of changing my life around, trials and temptations will be launched at me. The evil one will always try to throw me off-course.

Set my paths straight, Oh Merciful Savior. Allow me to see beyond those distractions and to focus on what lies ahead. Give me strength, as I battle the evil forces around me, fully equipped with Your Armour, Oh God.

Ezra 10:4  Arise, for this matter is your responsibility. We also are with you. Be of good courage, and do it.

Protect Me Lord

Protect me as I go out into this harsh, cruel world that is constantly changing and trying to influence me. I will overcome it, just as You overcame the grave.

Precious Lamb, I want to know You more and more. Draw near to me. I request Your Holy presence. Sometimes I may fail You, Lord and at those times I need Your love, grace and mercy the most.

Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

Reveal Your Plan For My Life

I am a work-in-progress, Lord and all I ask of You today is that You cleanse my heart, shape me and mold me into who You want me to become.

Reveal Your great plan and will for my life. Use me to fulfill my destiny and spread Your message across the land.

I declare and decree that from this day forward, Your never-changing, genuine, undying, never-failing love, will envelope my heart and I will gain compassion, hope, faith and love for humanity and I shall follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ of Nazareth! Amen and Amen!!

Philippians 2:12-13  Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

Heavenly Father, I look up to you in this time of change. Allow me to have the courage to change my life for the better. Allow all my burdens to be risen up to you as I know that You will see me through. Forgive those who have done evil and allow me to do the same. Teach me to love with an open heart and open spirit. Take time for me today to help with all the trials you have set out for me and allow me the strength and energy to follow you. Give me the blessings to find a new home, keep my family together, and bless those who are away, may they be strong and know how much love is out there. Let them know you and I are thinking of them and missing them dearly. Bless me with love, strength, wisdom, health, courage, forgiveness, and a willingness to learn.

A Prayer for Change

While looking at my blog today, I chanced upon a section of the dashboard I hadn’t noticed before.  It showed the search terms people had used most to find my blog online.  It shocked me to realise what it meant.

The two top terms were:

  1. Prayer for change in my life

  2. Empowered Person

If ever there was a cry for help, both these terms are screaming it from the rooftops! Prayer for change and seeking empowerment!

For two decades I have delivered life changing workshops and seminars all over my country on exactly these topics, and the cry has been the same:

“I expected more out of life than this, by now!”

I expected more out of life than this, by now!

I have heard it from teenagers, from young disillusioned couples, from parents with teenage kids, and from retirees, who were struggling still, after a lifetime of struggle.  A #prayer for change, if ever there was one!

When we were in school, we were told, and probably you were too:  “Study hard, get good grades, get a good job and have a good life!”  Well, these people all followed those directions and by the time they came to my workshops, that is how they felt – ripped off!  It was a lie, and they had fallen for it!  And now, they have this prayer for change!

There’s nothing wrong with having a good education and getting a good job.  However, that’s not it – that’s just the start!  Your education continues and it’s a lifelong program you are enrolled in!  The school of life is never on holidays – it always has something to teach you!  The question is – are you ready, willing and able to learn?

“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”

Today, My Perfect Day

A day that I could begin by being of service to another, to start their day also with inspiration and love.

A day when I could plan and begin projects – dreams that could take all of my tomorrows to complete.

A day I would live as though it was my last, as though there would be no tomorrow.

A day when I would play the games I play to the limit,

To laugh as hard as I can,

To love as passionately as I am able,

To work and achieve to my capacity,

yet with time to rest and relax with my loved ones

until we are full of the love we have for one another.

A day when there is time to reflect,

To consider those whose fortunes have not yet been realised, as mine have,

To pray that they may be realised – soon.

A day which closes with a Prayer of Thanks to the Great Spirit and all the guides I have,

for watching over me through this day,

and to ask them to guide me through the next,

so that again someone might say:

“I’m glad that you came by!”

Jamie Morgan is pastor of Life Church (Assemblies of God) and the Life House of Prayer (24/7 prayer).

For the last 25 years I have prayed everyday with all kinds of prayers and requests, however, there are 7 prayers that stand out among the rest. Although simple in nature, God has powerfully answered each one and they have produced great spiritual growth in my life.

Here are the 7 simple prayers that have changed my life:

1. “What is my purpose in life?”

I began praying this as a new Christian and prayed it daily for years. God answered this prayer 10 years after first uttering it by dramatically encountering me during my daily devotions with my call to the ministry. Because I persistently sought God in prayer regarding my purpose, I am now living His dream for my life.

2. “Anoint me for what I am called to do.”

God’s empowerment on what we do for Him delivers supernatural results. I proactively prayed this long before my calling was revealed. I knew that whatever my purpose, I needed God’s power to do it. I am still desperate for God’s anointing, so I continue to pray this everyday.

3. “I need wisdom and discernment.”

Viewing people and circumstances through God’s eyes is crucial to accurate understanding and intercession. I ask Him to give me the amount of wisdom and discernment needed in proportion to the call on my life. I pray this at the start of each day as well as throughout the day and as needed. This remains my most frequent prayer request.

4. “Root all selfishness and pride out of my life.”

The opposition to the Kingdom of God is the Kingdom of Me and, oh boy, did I have a lot of me when I became born-again (pride still tries to rear its ugly head)! God answers this prayer by using the people and circumstances in my life to cause me to die to self and walk in Christ-like humility. This ongoing pruning process is always very painful, but absolutely necessary in order to produce much fruit … which leads me to the next prayer …

5. “Increase my pain threshold.”

We will grow as a Christian only to the level of our pain threshold. I never want to draw a line in the sand and say, “No more pain!” If I do, I will stymie my growth. No pain, no gain. I always want to be painfully stretched, taken out of my comfort zone, and receive needed correction. I also want to be able to deal with challenging change, make difficult choices and work hard. And then there is the pain of rejection, the ache of forgiving someone who has wronged you, the sting of persecution, the throb of nailing your flesh to the cross and the list goes on and on. I pray this so that all limits are taken off of my growth.

6. “I ask You for one divine appointment per day.”

Winning a vast harvest of souls has always been my foremost goal and I know it is accomplished one person at a time. Wow, does God answer this prayer! Everyday God leads me to at least one lost soul and uses me to bring them one step closer to Jesus. I marvel at how He sets up divine encounters in the least likely of places and circumstances (oh snap! … material for a future blog).

7. “Expose what needs to be exposed, reveal what needs to be revealed and bring into the light that which is kept in darkness.”

Darkness is the devil’s playground, therefore asking God to expose the adversary’s plots and plans is crucial to winning in spiritual warfare. When God uncovers the devil’s schemes in my life, He makes the invisible visible and the subtle blatant. This prayer can make the difference between victory and defeat.

I would love to hear what life-changing prayers you have prayed. What prompted you to pray them? How has God answered them? What effect have they had on your spiritual growth?
