Buying a house can be one of the most exciting times of life! You look and search for the one that is just right for your family, whether it is big or small. Have you purchased a house recently or know of someone who has? Have you ever prayed for God’s blessing on your home? Here are 7 simple prayers that you can pray for God’s blessing on your new home.
Thank You for leading us to this house. It is wonderful and just right for our family. We didn’t know which house You would lead us to, but we trusted You. I pray, Lord, that as You led us to this house that You will continue to lead us daily. We give You the honor, praise and glory this day!
1st Time Home Owner
Trying to find a home was so exciting! I never imagined having my own home would be so invigorating. Lord, this was a new process and I thank You for putting the right people in my life to make this happen. My realtor was very kind and answered all of my questions to help me purchase this home. As I learn to maintain this home, Father, maintain my heart and help me to always remember that this home is not my forever home. You have a room ready for me in glory! I love You, Lord!
I pray for your blessing on this home. Some problems have risen that I did not see coming and I fear how much money I may have to put into repairing these issues. I know I can fix the minor issues, but the heater is out. Father, I pray that this issue is really an easy, small problem and that I won’t have to purchase a new unit to keep the house warm. Father, give me peace to know that Your blessing is still here even in the midst of uncertainty.
My New Neighborhood
Father In Heaven,
I thank You for this new neighborhood You have led us to. I pray that as you have given us this wonderful blessing for a home that You would also bless our neighborhood. Our next door neighbors seem very kind, Father, and I pray that as we get to know them more and more that You use my family to show Christ to them and the other neighbors close by. I love You!
For Husbands And Wives Only
I thank You for leading my wife and me to this home. It is just perfect for us and for the family we want to have. Lord, I pray for Your blessing on this home that it will one day fill with children for us to love and care for. Bless our marriage, Father. Bless our marriage bed. As we walk with You, we pray that You will bring us closer to each other every day. We love this house and we love You! Bless our future here, Father.
Those With Children
We thank You for this wonderful home You have blessed us with! I pray for each of my kids, Lord, that they will be blessed with many memories to cherish as they grow older. I have so many wonderful memories of my childhood and I pray the same will be said for my kids. Help me, Lord, to be the best mom/dad that I can be for them all. Help me to be the best husband/wife that I can to show my kids and my spouse that they mean so much to me! I am excited for the future in this home and I pray for Your blessing to continue in it throughout the years.
I am truly thankful for this home that You have led us to. Lord, as much as I love this home I place it into Your hands for it really is Yours. Nothing happens without Your foreknowledge. Father, may I be a good steward of this home. Bless my efforts to grow a beautiful family and also a beautiful home. Lord, may this be a home that people know are always welcome, for it is Your home. So, I ask for Your blessing on it. May it be a place of refuge from the cold winter winds. May it be a place of security when my kids/spouse needs a hug or a serious conversation. May it be a place of romance as my husband/wife and I dance in the kitchen and long for one another when we are apart. This home is such a blessing and I will not take it for granted. I love, You!
If you have recently purchased a home, congratulations! Pray for God’s blessing in it and on you as well. May God bless you all as you continue to live a life worthy of the calling!

Have you ever formally blessed your home? This traditional ritual is a powerful reminder that your home is a “sacred space” because of the people who live there.
You can bless your home using one of the many blessings and prayers for homes and households contained in Catholic Household Blessings and Prayers, including “Prayer Before Moving From a Home,” “Blessing When Moving Into a New Home,” “Blessing of the Home and Household on the Epiphany” (corresponding to the visit of the Magi to the Holy Family) and “Blessing of Homes During Eastertime” (a traditional time for the blessing of homes).
Better yet, invite your parish priest over for dinner and ask him to bless your home at the same time.
Ideas for Blessing Your Home
Whether you bless your home yourself or invite your pastor to do so, here are a few ideas you might want to incorporate:
- Bless each room. Walk through your home and think about what takes place in each space. How is what happens in each place connected to the work of the Church? How is it holy? Compose a simple, appropriate prayer for each place. Choose an appropriate Scripture passage to read for each place. For example, you might read the story in Genesis about Abraham’s hospitality to the three angels as part of your blessing of the dining room table.
- Dedicate your home (and specific places in it) to a patron saint. Invoke the patronage of St. Zita in your kitchen; dedicate kids’ bedrooms to their patron saints, etc.
- Get the kids involved. Let your kids compose prayers for your home blessings, read Scripture passages, or sprinkle holy water.
Talking Points: Why Bless Your Home?
Catholics bless their homes because God comes to meet them there. In its official blessings for homes, the Church recalls that Jesus spent much of his ministry sharing a meal with people in their homes: Zacchaeus the tax collector, Martha and Mary, and the disciples on the way to Emmaus, for example.
Christ continues to meet his people where they live; as a result, “every dwelling is a temple of holiness” (“Blessing of Homes During Eastertime,” Catholic Household Blessings and Prayers, p. 129). It makes sense, then, that Catholics have long blessed their homes and households, asking God to protect them and make them places of peace and holiness.

2 Chronicles 7:15 Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place. For now I have chosen and consecrated this house that my name may be there for ever; my eyes and my heart will be there for all time.
Bless our household members: may only great things come their way. Let no evil befall them. Let temptations just slip away as they cling to You. Lead them into the plain path of righteousness, protect and cover them under the precious blood of the Lamb wherever they go.

Psalms 127:1 Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.
Proverbs 24:3-4 By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
Guide them accordingly, Oh heavenly King, let Thy will be done. Draw them in, Oh loving Father; may they turn from their wicked ways and eternally seek and crave Your goodness, mercies and everlasting love. And as they walk with You daily, Oh Merciful Savior, bless them abundantly… let it rain, let pour and let it flood, in the precious Name of Jesus we pray, Amen!
Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any one hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.

Your Presence is Heaven to Me by Israel Houghton
Father God, the God who is in Heaven, the God who created the Heavens and the Earth, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in Israel, the one true living God, the Father of Jesus Christ, the God who said, “Let there be light” in the beginning and there was light. Father God, this is a prayer going up to you to bless the house where this prayer is being played. Father God, we want you to do a deep cleansing, a deep blessing over this house. Father God, to do this blessing you have to first remove the cursing so, Father God, I ask you now to search this house where this prayer is being played. Do a search. I want you to look at the house. If there are any demons hovering over this house, if you find and see any demons lurking in the roof of the house, if you see any demons following the persons living in this house, if you see any demons in the rooms standing/watching the persons in this house, if you see any demons abiding in any of the objects that’s in this house, if you see any demons in the mirrors, if you see any demons under the ground of this house, Father God, if you see any demons living and abiding in this house, Father God, identify all of them. Make records of how many and start sending in armies of Angels to fight off and to destroy these evil spirits living in this house. Send your Angels right now, Father God. Have your Angels to destroy every single demon that has been hovering over this house and living and abiding in this house where this prayer is being played.
Father God, every organization that these demons have formed when they were in this house and abiding in this house, every little thing they used to gain access in this house, any type of portals, doorways, destroy them, Father God.
So after you bless this house it will not be cursed again. Father God, after your Angels have defeated and removed every single demon that was around and abiding and living in this house, quickly put a shield over this house where this prayer is being played. This shield is to protect of the demons that Satan might send to re-curse this house. The demons will not be able to get through the shield. Father God, have Angels, other Angels, outside the body of the shield that’s outside this house so if any demons try to even come near the shield, your Angels will prevent them from even touching or trying to penetrate the shield to get through.
Have those Angels, Father God, be standing guard. Father God, spill the blood of Jesus Christ on the ground of this house. Have the blood of Jesus to remove every corruptible thing, all curses that have been placed on the ground that this house is on. Have the blood of Jesus Christ to break those curses. Release the full power of the blood of Jesus Christ on the ground of this house was built on. Father God, take the blood of Jesus Christ and pour it on the roof of this house destroying every curses and corruptible thing that was placed or that was abiding in the roof of the house. Father God, take the blood of Jesus Christ and put it on every door in this house, every bedroom door, every kitchen door, every basement door. Every door in this house, put the blood of Jesus Christ’s seal on every door, even the front door of this house.
Father God, you cease control over this house. No longer are Satan’s demons in charge. Father God, since you are in control and now that all the evil spirits have gone and removed, and are removed now, now you can start to bless. Father God, put your hand over this house. Put your hand over this house, Father God, and let your anointing power and glory flow from out of your hands throughout this whole house. Bless it, Father God. Send blessings to this house. Make this house become a magnet for blessings in every way, in every form. Pull, Father God, pull nothing else but blessings to this house where this prayer is being played. Father God, let the blessing not stop. Let the blessing be continuous and continuous, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. I thank you, Father, for blessing this house in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.
