Prayer for purity

Jesus, Lover of chastity, Mary, Mother most pure, and Joseph, chaste guardian of the Virgin, to you I come at this hour, begging you to plead with God for me. I earnestly wish to be pure in thought, word and deed in imitation of your own holy purity.

Obtain for me, then, a deep sense of modesty which will be reflected in my external conduct. Protect my eyes, the windows of my soul, from anything that might dim the luster of a heart that must mirror only Christlike purity.

And when the “Bread of Angels becomes the Bread of me” in my heart at Holy Communion, seal it forever against the suggestions of sinful pleasures.

Heart of Jesus, Fount of all purity, have mercy on us.

Abba Father, you are the author and finisher of my faith, you knew me when I was within my mother’s womb. You know my destiny and you have orchestrated my life so that I may be successful. You have been a faithful friend throughout my life.

Heavenly Father, many times I find myself being cynical and unkind. Sometimes, I let the cares of this world harden my heart.

He who loves purity of heart, and whose speech is gracious, will have the king as his friend. – Proverbs 22:11

Create in me a clean heart, O God and renew a steadfast spirit within me. – Psalm 51:10

Yet I know it shouldn’t be like this. My Lord, I pray that you give me a pure heart, as I am jaded by the hurts of this world.

I want to love as you love, and care as you care. I need that peace that passes all understanding. When I look at how carefree children are, I remember:

Matthew 5:5 God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth.

I want Purity of Spirit

God, I want to be that way. I want purity of spirit, I want humility.

I want you to use me as a vessel of honor unto your name, so that whatever I do and whoever I speak with, they will see the Christ in me.

Abba, this world is not easy but you make my existence worth it. Father, help me to keep my eyes on you and help me to guard my heart.

Help me to look at every trial as an experience and learn from it so that I may be a blessing unto others with my testimony. Help me to conquer every obstacle, as you promised in your word.

Deuteronomy 28:13 The Lord will make you the head, not the tail.

GIVE ME WISDOM AS YOU GAVE SOLOMON WHEN HE ASKED.

Father, help me to take my eyes off myself and my problems and give them fully to you. Lord. I want to be mindful of the plight of others.

Give me wisdom as you gave Solomon when he asked. Give me the wisdom to offer wise council to others.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.  – Matthew 5:8

Almighty Father, put the words in my mouth to build up and not break down.

Help me to uplift and not destroy, to bring this tongue under subjection, Father. I want to be kind, Lord and I look to you for this kindness. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Here are three beautiful prayers for purity.

As we move through this life, it easy to become jaded and harsh. May God grant us the strength to live as he would have us, as children of God, and shepherds of love.

A Prayer for Purity

In this world where inappropriate images and behavior
are all around us, it can be more difficult than ever to remain pure.
But for Your children, God, for those who choose You, there is no other
choice but to live a life of purity.

Help us all to keep the commitments that we have made to You.
Help us to stay pure for that one special person that will one
day be our husband or wife. Give us the strength to remain pure
and let us always remember that the reward for purity will be well worth it.

Amen

Puritan Prayer for Purification

Lord Jesus, I sin. Grant that I may never cease grieving because of it, never be content with myself, never think I can reach a point of perfection.

Kill my envy, command my tongue, trample down self. Give me grace to be holy, kind, gentle, pure, peaceable, to live for Thee and not for self, to copy Thy words, acts, spirit, to be transformed into Thy likeness, to be consecrated wholly to Thee, to live entirely to Thy glory.

Deliver me from attachment to things unclean, from wrong associations, from the predominance of evil passions, from the sugar of sin as well as its gap; that with self-loathing, deep contrition, earnest heart searching I may come to Thee, cast myself on Thee, trust in Thee, cry to Thee, be delivered by Thee.

O God, the Eternal All, help me to know that all things are shadows, but Thou art substance, all things are quicksands, but Thou art mountain, all things are shifting, but Thou art anchor, all things are ignorance, but Thou art wisdom.

If my life is to be a crucible amid burning heat, so be it, but do Thou sit at the furnace mouth to watch the ore that nothing be lost. If I sin wilfully, grievously, tormentedly, in grace take away my mourning and give me music; remove my sackcloth and clothe me with beauty; still my sighs and fill my mouth with song, then give me summer weather as a Christian.

A Gentle Life

Lord, let me find back the lost treasure of time.
Time for gentle listening to a friend, for sharing the play of a child,
for consoling a suffering fellow human being, for thinking without strain,
for labor without pressure.

Time to delight in birds and flowers, blooming trees and lustrous green.
Time to enjoy music, friends, and meals, time to be silent and alone,
time to be quietly at home, time to be present to Your mystery.
Free me from the tyranny of time urgency. Let time not possess me neither
the pressure of daily concerns.

Let me not cram every moment with useful or exciting things to do or say.
Let my life be a gentle preparation for the pure and precious moments of listening
to You so that I may not drown in the rushing waters of practical pursuits.

Amen

The Episcopal Collect: Cleanse Our Hearts

Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known,
and from you no secrets are hid;

Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,
that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen
