Prayer for Finances
A number of people who have gone through Release the Power of Psalm 91, our free mini-course, have written me regarding financial problems:
“How to pray?”
I took the situation to the Lord, asking for advice. “How do you give a simple answer to something that could take a volume to explain in Scriptural terms?”
The Lord kindly returned a simple prayer.
In fact, it was so simple as to be almost embarrassing. (I’m quite wordy, if you haven’t noticed!)
Simple, but powerful! I began to get feedback from folks and gave glory to God for their breakthroughs. Breakthrough came rather quickly considering God is not on our timetable.
Details were somewhat similar:
• Payments that had been held up came through.
• Money denied was released and given over.
• Contested inheritance came through.
We’re talking large sums of money!
Two days ago a friend called me to report that all the financial stress they were in had been settled. The final word had just come from her accountant. She is getting an $8000 tax refund. She is incredulous. She was expecting to have to pay; and, she has never gotten a return before!
I hung up the phone, praising God, and decided I need to share this prayer more broadly. So here we go.
The prayer is based on Zechariah 4:6-7.
Zerubbabel has struggled to build the temple amid all many and means of problems. An angel comes with encouragement and wisdom:
This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel:
“Not by might nor by power but by My Spirit”
says the Lord of Hosts.
Who are you great mountain?
Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain!
And he shall bring forth the capstone
With shouts of “Grace, grace to it!”
Basically, the message to Zerubbabel and to us is that some problems are beyond our ability to fix, no matter how powerful or talented we may be. Where our power fails, the task is completed by the Spirit of the Lord. He gets credit. We do not! So here is the prayer in all its simplicity:
Lord, this day I take authority over the thief regarding (the situation)
And, I shout “Grace, grace!” to this mountain. (Zechariah 4:6-7)
How to pray it:
• Pray it each day, taking authority over the thief for this day.
• Any time during the day when the situation comes to mind, pray the prayer again.
• Pray this instead of fretting.
Part of the power of this prayer:
• Recognizing and confessing that the problem is too big for you, but manageable by God is a big step. You roll the burden of the problem onto the Burden Bearer, just as Jesus instructed. (Matt 11:30)
• As you repeat the prayer instead of allowing fear to grip you, your mind is renewed. You begin to think like God regarding the situation. This increases faith tremendously and when you have faith the size of a mustard seed, “you will say to this mountain, ‘move from here to there’, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matt 17:20)
Glory to God! This is where we are called to be. If you need more encouragement, read Faith, a good intro to the topic.

Lord God in heaven I come to you humbly asking you to bless me financially. This is not hard for you to do because the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof. You are Jehovah Jireh the God who provides and I ask you to provide for me and my family and my friends. We are in need of your help.
Lord I ask you to show me the areas in my life where I may not have been a good steward of Your money and I ask that you would bring conviction into my heart by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Show me the areas where I need to improve how I handle your money so that I may honor You by using what You give me in a manner that pleases You. I pray Lord that when I receive this financial blessings that you will send me in the next few days, I will tithe to the ministry that you will call to my mind the amount which You will put in my heart. Lord I know that You are able to supply my needs according to your glorious riches in Christ Jesus. I know that you are the God who gives me the ability to create wealth and I make a covenant with you today that when you send me this financial blessing I will praise you for it no matter how small it may be and I will continue to serve you with a grateful heart.
Lord I ask that you would cause me to have an undivided heart and mind towards you. No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. I know that I cannot serve both You God and Money(Luke 16:13). Forgive me if I have misplaced my worship and my focus. Bless me this day with the blessing that you gave our forefather Abraham. Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain (1Chronicles 4:10). In Jesus Name. AMEN.
Prayer for Finances
Heavenly Father, I come before you with thanksgiving in my heart and your praises on my lips. Father, I know that you are my shepherd and I shall not want for anything, (Psalm 23:1) that includes any financial needs. Lord, I need wisdom when it comes to handling my money. I want to live a life of abundance and know how to face any situation with the confidence that you will supply every need I have (Philippines 4:12,19) I pray Lord God that You would give me a financial strategy to live debt free and financially owe no man or woman anything, except to love them (Romans 13:8). I pray that You would lead me to use a strategy that is based on kingdom principles and developed for kingdom purposes. Father I ask that You help me to correct any financial mistakes that I have made. I repent for being a careless steward of Your finances, and give control of the financial area of my life back to You. Help me to show You that I can be trusted with more finances, and that I will use them to bring glory and honor to You.
Lord re-establish Your covenant of prosperity with me. I understand that You desire me to grow spiritually first, so that I don’t spend Your money foolishly, while struggling with temptation and falling into sin. Therefore, I thank You for Your wisdom, and ask for finances not just to meet my own physical needs, but the needs of others as well. Father, I ask for grace to make two commitments to you.
1. I know that your word says that if you sow a little you reap a little, and if you sow a lot you will reap a lot (2 Corinthians 9:6-7). So Father I ask you for opportunities to sow into other people’s life and to sow what I have. Although it may only be a little bit at first I know that it will continue to grow as you multiply my harvest and then in turn resow what I have harvested.
2. Lord, I commit to you and myself that my hope and confidence is in You and You alone, because I have done this you will protect me and when hard times come you will provide not just for my needs but also for my enjoyment (Jeremiah 17:7-8, 1 Timothy 6:17-19).
Lord, I know that you are the sole provider of all I have, but I also understand that I am steward of those resources and it is my responsibility to manage what you have given me to the best of my ability. I promise to be diligent and not be lazy with what you have given me, because that is how wealth is built (Proverbs 10:4). I do this in obedience to you and in return you will bless me from your treasury and everything I put my hand to will be successful (Deuteronomy 28:12).
Help me to keep my eyes on You, and help me to focus more on our relationship than anything else.
In the mighty name of Jesus I pray and declare these things,
