Prayer After Death of Loved One
Saints of God, come to his/her aid! Come to meet him/her, angels of the Lord! Receive his/her soul and present him/her to God the Most High.
May Christ, Who called you, take you to Himself; may angels lead you to Abraham’s side. Receive his/her soul and present him/her to God the Most High.
Give him/her eternal rest, O Lord, and may Your light shine upon him/her forever. Receive his/her soul and present him/her to God the Most High.
Let us pray: We commend our brother/sister, (Name) to you, Lord. Now that he/she has passed from this life, may he/she live on in Your presence. In Your mercy and love, forgive whatever sins he/she may have committed through human weakness. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

My Father, I worship you, I thank you for being there for me, through all the good times and bad. I thank you that so far, Father, every day has been sweeter than the day before, with you in my life. I thank you for your unmerited favour in my life. I thank you for giving me strength during these hard times and being there when I am not strong.
Phillippians 4:13- I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.
Praying through the difficult times
Today has been a difficult day, O Lord, I feel as if I can’t go on. The loss I feel is so strong, it is almost tangible to me.
I have had thoughts that I know are wrong. I feel as if the loss of my loved one has left me empty and drained, so much so that I didn’t want to be here anymore. I need you, my daddy, I need your strength, and I need you to preserve my mind and my body.
I still cannot understand why you took them home? I loved and needed them and you still took them? Why?
Isaiah 57:1 The righteous perish and no one takes it to heart, the devout are taken away and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil.
Taking Comfort
I take comfort in knowing that they are better off with you and, one day, we shall all meet again.
Father, I need you to pull me through. Give me that joy, help me to smile again. Give me beauty for my ashes and the oil of joy for mourning. Fill this void in my heart.
Preserve my memories of my loved one. Help me to go on, Lord. I need your strength like never before.
Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Thank you, Father, for taking me in your loving embrace and helping me make the correct decisions. You are my guide, my Lord. You be my light. Amen.
Psalm 27
The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?

“Dear Heavenly Father,
The wonderful gifts of life are the people you have allowed us to love and be loved by.
I have lost a person very dear to my heart and my heart is heavy with the grief from this loss. As you know, each person is a unique creation that is irreplaceable.
Lord, as I think of the memories that will tie me to this person forever, please help me to see past this pain. Let the love that has made this loss so hard never die. I know my heart is capable of loving much, if it is capable of this kind of pain.
Will you help my heart to share this love again? Open new friends and people into my life. I know that they will never replace my dear one. But, my heart has a lot of love to share and that will not end with the death of ____________.
Show me how to deal with my grief in the best way you see fit. Help me to continue to reach through to others through my pain. Draw closer to me as I lean closer to you. You are Jehovah Rappha, the God that heals broken hearts.
Right now the pain is so intense. It feels as if my heart will never beat the same again. Give me hope, Lord. I need your presence to fill my heart, my home and lift this depression.
Cradle me in your arms as I go to bed at night. I am having a hard time sleeping. Give me complete shalom in every way.
In Jesus’ precious name, I come to you as my comforter, my healer and my peace. Amen.”

A Prayer for Person(s) Overcoming the Death of a Loved One
Psalm 48, Psalm 23
Reflections of the Heart:
It is very difficult to say “good-bye” to a loved one. The pain can be unbearable. If you have experienced the death of a loved one, let the Lord love and comfort you.
Our Father in heaven, may Your Name be honored. There is none greater than You. You are our refuge and strength. You are always ready to help in times of trouble. We praise You, Lord. We lift our hearts with praise. It is good to sing praises to You, our God; how delightful and how right! Lord, You are great and mighty in power. Your understanding is infinite. We thank You, Father, for the life of our loved one(s) who have gone on to be with You. Thank You for their time on earth and the impact they had on our lives. We are thankful to You and we bless Your Name.
Father, You can count the stars and call them all by name. Your power is absolute. Your understanding is beyond comprehension. You support the humble and bring the wicked down into the dust. You comfort those who mourn. We declare that those grieving the death of a loved one; mourning will turn into dancing. We confess that You are their rock, fortress, and Savior in whom they will find protection. You are their shield, and the strength of their salvation. Father, You are their stronghold. As they call on You, You have promised to answer. We believe that You will be with them during this period of bereavement, rescue them from grief, honor them, and give them Your salvation.
Father, we ask You to send Your peace to those persons who are mourning. Continue to surround them with family, friends and loved ones who will offer words of comfort. Give them sweet and restful sleep. Father, remove the spirit of heaviness, and give them garments of praise. In due time, bless their lives to overflow with laughter and joy again. As they take refuge in You, please help them to put their trust in You. Holy Spirit, we ask that You settle the hearts and minds of those who are feeling any guilt, resentment, bitterness, or anger. Help them not to look back but to press forward.
Write down the name of those who are grieving the loss of a loved one. In addition to praying for them, call, visit or send an encouraging note to them.

Father, forgive the bereaved for any sins they have committed through thoughts, words, or deeds. Forgive them if they have not meditated on Your Word to find comfort. Father, forgive them if they have not been totally submissive to Your perfect will for their lives. Forgive them for any hurtful things they may have said or done to the deceased. Lord, help them to forgive the deceased if necessary. Please remind them of anyone they need to forgive; and help them to forgive quickly.
Lead those who mourn not into temptation; but deliver them from the evil one.
Lord, the heavens tell of Your glory. The skies display Your marvelous craftsmanship. You are the Lord, Most High, the great King over all the earth. You reign over all nations. You are an awesome God. We honor You, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
