Gabriel Jesus continues to recover after surgery in a Barcelona hospital, but received a special guest today to cheer him up.

His Brazilian compatriot Neymar, who of course plays his club football in Barcelona, stopped by to wish Jesus a speedy recovery and posted a photo of the two together on Instagram.

The two won Olympic gold together and have formed a good partnership for the Seleção since Gabriel Jesus was promoted from Brazil’s youth set-up to the senior side.

The 19-year-old is expected to be out of action for two to three months following surgery on a broken fifth metatarsal and will remain in Barcelona for a couple of days before being discharged.

THE Jesus Picture

“I am sorry to tell you that your mom has Dementia, and has probably had it for a while.”  All three of us grown siblings were shocked!  This medical diagnosis was the worst scenario we could imagine – the absolute worse.

Together we decided to move mom to Buffalo, New York, where Rex and I lived.  My brother had found the perfect place for her — a senior living community with a full range of services, including a particular unit for people with beginning stages of dementia.  An added benefit was that this elder campus was close to our homes.  This meant we could check in with mom, daily – keeping tabs on her and arranging for lots of visitors.

Mom’s biggest problem, initially, was dealing with the unfamiliar. When she was in a room or place for the first time, she would often get frightened.  She felt she was lost – not where she should be.  These feelings could erupt quickly into panic attacks. When this happened, it took a while to calm mom down.  It was painful to see her so frightened.

When mom fell and broke her hip, we were all concerned.  She needed to have hip replacement surgery ASAP.  Of course, mom was not happy about the surgery, but she was most concerned about the unfamiliar aspects of the hospital.

I knew I needed to do something that would make her hospital room familiar – seem more like home.  Mom, a very religious person, had a favorite picture of Jesus Christ she had loved all her life.  It was the familiar painting, Christ at 33 by Heinrich Hofmann.

For years, she had this print above her bed. “I love having Jesus watching over me every night,” she said.  “I always feel so safe.”  When we moved her to Buffalo the Jesus picture, of course, came along.  Once again we hung it above her bed board.  She was all smiles when she saw the familiar face of her “best friend.”  “I know I am in the right place – because I see my friend, Jesus,” she said.

Mom’s discourse gave me an idea.  When I arrived home, I did an Internet search and found the exact photo of Jesus mom so loved.  I printed it and then put the image in a five by seven-inch frame.  “Jesus,” I said, “you are going on a little trip to DeGraff Hospital with Mother.”

I chuckled as I imagined Jesus then saying to me, “Sounds good to me.  I love that sweet lady, just like you do, Katie.”

The day before her surgery my husband, Ron, and I brought mom to DeGraff.   When she was finally settled and comfortable, I pulled out the picture from my purse and said to her, “Mom, look what I brought with me – and am putting on top of your overbed table.”

“Oh, my,” she said.  “It is my Jesus.  How fantastic– this is absolutely marvelous!

Her face broke into a huge smile.  “I know I will be fine now,” she said.

After chatting with her for another hour, Ron and I left.  We told her we would be back in the early morning before her surgery.

The following morning we all arrived early.  The nurse came into her room to prep her for the operation.  As I stood there thinking about the day, I suddenly realized mom would not be waking from her surgery in this room.  She would wake up in recovery.  I knew I needed to get the picture to recovery.

I excused myself, telling mom I would be back in about ten minutes.  I then rushed to recovery and found the head nurse.  I explained the situation. The nurse smiled broadly, telling me she would make all the necessary arrangements.   I was not to worry.

picture of jesus in surgery room

Later in the day, the nurse told us this story:

“When Nadine finally woke up from her hip surgery, she was woozy and confused.  I was standing right beside her bed.  She looked up at me, not knowing who I was – or where she was.  Her eyes widened as she perused the entire room.  I could feel the confusion she was beginning to experience.”

Suddenly your mom’s eyes caught sight of the Jesus picture.  A  look of wonder and joy covered her wrinkled, but beautiful face.  I said to her, “Nadine, are you all right?  Do you know where you are?”

She looked directly at me and said, “Well, I am not exactly sure where I am, but I see my friend, Jesus.   So, I know, without a doubt, I am where I need to be.”

Pictures of Jesus, by Greg Olson

Greg Olson is an exceptional artists, who doesn’t only portray Jesus in a serious way, but he also expresses the love of God. These images of Jesus show us something of the wonderful person who Jesus Christ truly is: full of love, purity, compassion and power, helping, guiding and saving us. When we obey His command to love one another, then His love will transform our entire being and change the world around us. Jesus Christ is the perfect image of God, showing us who God is and how we can get to know God as our Father and best Friend.

Jesus Christ is the One who gives us true peace and joy, and who turns our darkness into bright light.

Jesus Christ is the light of the world, who brings His light in our hearts, so we also become bright shining lights in this world.

‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’ (John 8:12)

picture of jesus in surgery room

Most Jesus paintings are very serious, but in fact Jesus Christ was filled with the wonderful JOY OF THE LORD! When He invites us to follow Him, He invites us to discover what true happiness is: being a beloved child of the Father, who is the source of life and the giver of all that is good, the one who fulfills His promises to us, and who gives us the glorious and victorious Kingdom of God.

Knowing God is knowing joy!

Jesus was able to endure the horrible suffering of the cross, because He had his eyes fixed on the joy of seeing you and me be set free from darkness and come home in His arms of love.

‘For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.’ (Hebrews 12:2)

picture of jesus in surgery room

This picture of Jesus standing at the door, visualizes one of the most important verses in Scripture:

‘Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.’ (Revelation 3:20)

Jesus Christ invites us to step out of a lukewarm religious ‘church-going’ lifestyle to truly KNOWING HIM, living with Him, having intimate fellowship with Him. Then we will experience the light, the life, the joy and the freedom He so longs to give us…

picture of jesus in surgery room

This Jesus image shows that although both Jesus Christ and John the baptist (man at the left) suffered a lot during their life, in order to bring the Kingdom of God on earth, they also had a lot of fun. Greg Olson writes it beautifully:

‘The life they promoted was the way of joy, the way to truly be happy. Not through a somber life of piousness and mere endurance to the end, but a life filled with gratitude, wonder, love and service, even a life filled with smiles and laughter. These are the emotions that bring us nearer to God and each other.’

picture of jesus in surgery room

In this picture Jesus Christ looks at the horizon, where the Sun is rising, as a symbol of the ever increasing Kingdom of God. Many christians believe the lie that this world is getting darker and darker, but Jesus Christ is not the dusk, He is the dawn, the Bright Morningstar, the New Day. His kingdom increases day by day, and His light shines in this world more and more, until His full glory is revealed.

The future is not dark and gloomy, but incredibly bright and full of hope!

‘Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.’ (Isaiah 9:7)

‘For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.’ (Habakuk 2:14)

picture of jesus in surgery room

This painting shows Jesus Christ looking at the heavens, which He has created… He knows the name of each and every star in the universe, just as He knows the name of each one of us. Jesus said that even all the hairs on our head have been counted! That gives us incredible comfort and peace, knowing that God knows everything about us and is always full of attention for us.

‘The very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.’ (Luke 12:7)

picture of jesus in surgery room

This picture of Jesus shows how He is inviting a teenager to come to Him, and find rest for his troubled soul. Young people are often severely under attack by satan and the lusts of this world. Jesus Christ is always waging war against the powers of hell, to seek and save those who are lost, to bring them home in the arms of the Father, where they belong and discover true peace of mind and fulfillment.

‘For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.’ (Luke 19:10)

‘Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.’ (Matthew 11:28)

picture of jesus in surgery room

In this picture, Jesus Christ looks at Jerusalem, while thinking about what He had exclaimed over the city of God:

‘O Jerusalem, Jerusalem… how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings…’ (Matthew 23:47)

The same way He is looking at you and me and everyone else in the world, full of love and compassion, longing to bring us home, in the arms of our loving Father in heaven. People so often run away from the One who loves them more than they could ever dare to imagine and who can help them in all their troubles.

picture of jesus in surgery room

This stunning picture shows Jesus Christ helping children cross a wild and dangerous river. The same way He is helping us, young and old, to overcome difficult situations in our lives. He is faithful and always present to help us. Never doubt the presence and the love of Jesus Christ, the great Helper and Savior.

‘So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.’ (Isaiah 41:10)

picture of jesus in surgery room

In this image of Jesus, Greg Olson tried to visualize the compassionate love of Jesus Christ, who is our healer. He looks at us with tender eyes, seeing our deepest pain and He offers us healing for both body and soul.

‘When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.’ (Matthew 9:36)

picture of jesus in surgery room

This amazing painting shows how Jesus Christ is full of attention for this world. Many people today think God has forgotten about us, because they see all the suffering in our world. But God is full of attention, for all of us. He knows what is happening and He is thinking always of way to reach us with His eternal love and goodness. If we would only open our hearts and minds for Him, then He could reveal who He is and we would experience His help so much more.

‘For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.’ (2 Chronicles 16:9)

picture of jesus in surgery room

This beautiful picture shows how Jesus Christ invites us – not to a boring religion, but the life of abundance, the life in freedom, the life of true love, the life of divine fruitfulness, the life of the glory of the Lord, the life of His wonderful goodness and mercy.

Jesus is the most beautiful person there is. When we really know Him, we will discover that which truly makes us happy and fulfilled.

‘I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance.’ (John 10:10)

‘You will show me the path of life: in your presence is fulness of joy; at your right hand there are pleasures for evermore.’ (Psalm 16:11)

picture of jesus in surgery room

In this painting we see how Jesus Christ suffered in ways we can’t understand, while He was in the garden of Gethsemane. He realized what would happen: the sin, the guilt, the demonic oppression of entire mankind would come upon Him.

He would become the very Lamb of God, and He would be literally slain for the sins of the world.

The Bible says He started sweating blood, that’s how intense the fear and turmoil was, He went through. But He persevered, because His deep love for us is stronger than His fear of the torture He would have to go through, in order to save us.

What a love! And this love is here for you, right now…

picture of jesus in surgery room

The last painting by Greg Olson shows us a major secret of knowing God. Jesus Christ said He didn’t require from us to become full of religious knowledge. He said we may simply become as a little child: open, trusting, vulnerable and spontaneous. When we become like little children, our hearts are opened up to know Jesus Christ and experience the kingdom of God in our lives. It’s all about being real, wearing no religious masks, but truly be who we are, without faking anything.

‘Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.’ (Matthew 18:3)

Eyes full of wisdom

I like the depth in these eyes of Jesus Christ. Often paintings of Jesus are lifeless, especially the old paintings from centuries ago, show Jesus as a man without emotions. In this image Lars Justinen was able to give real personality to the portrait of Jesus. His eyes show a depth of wisdom and insight.

Painting of Jesus as God

The main hallmark of Jesus Christ is that He is the Word of God who became flesh. The Word of God is God himself, says the apostle John. Jesus Christ is far more than just a prophet or good teacher, He is God Himself, Who became a human being like you and me, to reveal His love to us.

‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.’ (John 1:1-3)

Picture of Jesus, by Nancy Lee Moran

This painting is one of my all time favorite pictures of Jesus Christ. It shows so much of Him, just as I know Him… His eyes look at you with such love and joy. He doesn’t have this angry, judging look, some would expect Him to have. Yes He does look with eyes of fire, that see right into the depths of our souls. But He also looks at us as our true Friend, on whom we can always rely.

As I have stated on this page again and again: when Jesus Christ invites us, it is not into a boring, controlling religion. No, not at all. He invites us to discover the life He has for us. True abundant life. He is the giver of life. He layed down His life to give us freedom and peace.

He restores our soul, He heals or heart, He mends our wounds… and He makes us fly as eagles again.

‘Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.’ (Matthew 11:28)

The first time I saw this picture of Jesus, it immediately struck me, because of the joy and life it radiates. I can imagine when Jesus Christ invited His disciples to follow Him, He didn’t look as stern and boring as some paintings show Him.

Jesus Christ offers us abundant life.

Pictures of Jesus being baptized

Jesus Christ was baptized in the Jordan, by the prophet John the Baptist. When Jesus rose from the water, the Holy Spirit came upon Him in the form of a dove. His Father spoke with a loud voice that sounded like thunder: ‘This is My Son, in whom I am well pleased.’ This baptism in water and in the Holy Spirit, followed by the public affirmation of His identity and calling by His heavenly Father, prepared Jesus for the great challenge He was about to face: being without food for 40 days in the desert, where He would be tempted by satan, to give up His calling and choose an easier way.

Pictures of Jesus healing the sick

These pictures of Jesus show Him while doing what He did most of the time: healing the sick. Many christians think that Jesus only healed the sick now and then, but the Bible says that Jesus Christ always healed all the sick who came to Him. He never turned a sick person away – never! And He never made anyone sick – never! He always healed them: the blind, the deaf, the demonized, the lame, the mentally ill, etc.

“Great crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others, and laid them at his feet; and he healed them.” (Matthew 15:30)

He showed the perfect will of the Father: restoration, deliverance, life in abundance, freedom,… God is a good God, who wants us to enjoy the life He is giving us.

The miracles of Jesus are an expression of the love of God for all of us.

When we are healed by Jesus Christ, we know He truly cares and He is so good that He removes the chains of suffering from us and surrounds us with songs of deliverance. Today Jesus is also healing the sick, all over the world. Visit the page modern day miracles to find out more about what Jesus Christ is doing in our time.

Pictures of Jesus raising the dead

Jesus not only healed the sick, He also raised the dead. Many people die before their time, while God’s plan for them is to live longer and enjoy life. Jesus Christ raised several people from the dead and gave them back to their beloved ones. He gave the command to His followers to do the same. Death is not always natural, but can also be inflicted by satan and his demons. Jesus called the devil the one who comes to ‘kill, steal and destroy’. Jesus said: ‘But I have come so you would have life in abundance.’

Today people are also being raised from the dead, through the prayer of christians who believe and obey the words of Jesus.

He’s a celebrated neurosurgeon who denies evolution. He is also a devout Christian facing claims he has lied about certain aspects of his life story.

And these pictures of Ben Carson’s Maryland mansion reveal a further insight into the eccentric mind of the embattled Republican presidential candidate.

A marble engraving on a wall proclaims: ‘By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches and honor and life – poverbs 22:4′. Unfortunately, Proverbs is misspelt.

Above that, is a portrait of Carson in his surgeon’s coat. Over in the hallway, is another striking portrait of Carson… with Jesus. Carson is again, wearing a surgeon’s coat over scrubs, and Jesus has an arm on his shoulder.

And in the family room, is a spectacular shrine to the 64-year-old – with almost every inch of the wall covered in his awards, plaques and diplomas.

Scroll down for video

Rags to riches: From growing up in inner-city Detroit to an eight-bedroom mansion, Ben Carson is pictured in his 48-acre Maryland property, which boasts a palatial staircase and Corinthian columns with gold-leaf capitals

On display: Carson’s wife Lacena or ‘Candy’ put up dozens of awards, certificates and prizes given to her husband, who became famous as the first surgeon to successfully separate twins joined at the head in 1987

Attention to detail: On one wall, a marble engraving proclaims the words: ‘By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches and honor and life – poverbs 22:4′. Unfortunately, Proverbs is misspelt

‘It took me around 12 hours to put all these up,’ his wife Lacena ‘Candy’ Carson told Baltimore Magazine in 2009.

‘I had to lay them all on the floor first to get the proportions just right.’

She added: ‘I wanted it to be art – not just a bunch of plaques on the walls – and I still have so many to put up that are still in storage.’

There are numerous honorary doctorate degrees – ranging from Yale to Morgan State University – as well as cases filled with certificates, photographs and trophies.

Carson’s Presidential Medal of Freedom, awarded in 2008, takes pride of place close to the front door as well as pictures with then-president George W. Bush and his wife in his makeshift shrine.

Jesus’ right hand man: Also hanging on a hallway wall is a portrait of Carson, in his scrubs and surgeon’s coat, with Jesus, who is pictured with an arm around Carson’s shoulder

Highest honor: Ben Carson’s Presidential Medal of Freedom (pictured), awarded to him in 2008, takes pride of place close to the front door

A prophecy? Also on display is a signed photograph with then-president George W. Bush and his wife Laura Bush, taken at the White House in 2008 when Carson received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor

Happy couple: Carson and his wife Lacena ‘Candy’ Rustin smile and dress casually as they pose in front of a pool table in their home in 2008

Family: Pictured in 2008, Carson poses in his home with his wife, Lacena ‘Candy’ Rustin, his two sons and his mother, Sonya Carson

Also on display are pictures from the movie about Carson’s life – Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story.

The film, based on his autobiography, aired on network TNT in February 2009, with Oscar-winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr. playing Carson.

Magazine articles about Carson, who found fame after becoming the first surgeon to successfully separate twins joined at the head in 1987, also feature on his wall.

Carson and his wife, who have three sons, bought the 48-acre property in Upperco, Baltimore County, in 2001 and lived there with Carson’s mother Sonya before moving to Florida.

The palatial property, boasts eight bedrooms and 12 bathrooms. It’s decorated in the Georgian style but with Corinthian columns featuring gold-leaf capitals.

Wall of fame: In the family room, beside a blue pool table, hangs dozens of honorary doctorate degrees, from institutions ranging from Yale to Morgan State University, which Carson’s wife Candy has painstakingly arranged on the wall

Welcome: Hanging above a mantle at the home in Baltimore County, Maryland, is a portrait of Carson dressed in his surgeon’s coat. He became the youngest ever chief of pediatric surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore at 33

Pride: Display cases at the 48-acre are filled with pictures, magazine articles, awards and medals dedicated to Carson and his career

Movie star: In February 2009, TNT aired a movie about Carson’s life – Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story. Photographs and scenes from the film, starring Cuba Gooding Jr. are on display on Carson’s wall of achievements

These photographs, taken in 2014, are a far cry from Carson’s oft-repeated life story – beginning with a childhood living in poverty in Detroit, where his mother Sonya single-handedly raised her sons by working several jobs after their father left.

‘There’s no question I loved the idea of space,’ Carson said, of the luxurious home, in 2009.

‘Having grown up in places that were not very spacious with lots of people around, I like the idea of having your own space, and the idea of being so secluded really appealed to us.’

But in recent days, questions surrounding the accuracy of Carson’s autobiography – Gifted Hands – have dominated his presidential campaign.

It tells the story of Carson’s rise from a childhood in inner-city Detroit to becoming the youngest chief of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore at 33.

As Carson is relatively new to politics, much of his career and published works are being scrutinized for the first time.
