“Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.” Matthew 8:17.
We have come to believe that it is just as wrong for a believer to bear his sickness when Jesus bore it, as it is for him to bear his sins when Christ bore them. We have no right to live in sin and to bear those hateful habits that make life a curse, because Christ bore them. It was wrong for Him to bear them if we are going to bear them too. It is wrong for us to have sickness and disease in our bodies when God laid those diseases on Jesus. He became sick with our diseases, that we might be healed.
What God Has Declared
Here is the foundation for faith, the Living Word of God. What God says, is. What man says, may be. What God says is never “maybe”; it is always made good. God’s Word is a part of Himself, just as your word is a part of you. What you say reveals the real “you.” People come to trust in the “you” in your voice. Your voice and your words are “you.”
Jesus was God’s Voice. What Jesus said, the Father said. Jesus was the Logos, the Word of God. When you read what Jesus said, or you hear it read, you are hearing God, you are hearing the Living Word. God is in back of what He has Spoken. The Throne of God is in back of what He has Spoken. God’s Character and Jesus’ character are involved in what the Father or Jesus has Spoken. So when He says, “Surely He hath borne our sicknesses and carried our diseases, Yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted” we know that our diseases were laid on Him.
When He climaxes that statement with, “By His stripes we are healed,” we know that we are healed. It is a problem of the integrity of the Word.
“He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his on way; and Jehovah hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:5.
This solves the sin problem.
“But now once at the end of the ages hath he been manifested to put away sin by the Sacrifice of Himself.” Hebrews 9:26
The sin problem is a settled problem because God said it was settled. Disease and sickness are settled because God said that He had settled them.
He bore the diseases.
God said, “By His stripes ye were healed” so that ends the discussion. He said the issue was closed. The diseases have been put away, so sickness and disease shall not lord it over you. He said, “Wherefore if any man is in Christ, he is a New Creation.” That is His declaration. That statement is a part of Himself. He says you are a New Creation. He says that you are His Son, born from Above. “That which is born of the Spirit is Spirit.” This is a statement of Fact.
Sin and disease are one. They cannot dominate the New Creation. You are not only His Son, but you are a joint-heir with Jesus. You are a joint receiver in all that Christ did and is. This shows how near you are to Him; “I am the vine, ye are the branches.” God is a part of what He said. In Christ, you are what He says you are.
You are a New Creation created in Christ. “There is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus” — to the New Creation. What God says, is. If you are a New Creation, then there is no condemnation for you. If there is no condemnation, disease cannot Lord it over you.
The Healer
When you know that, “By His stripes you are healed” and you know it as you know that two and two are four, the adversary will have no power over you. When you know the Power and Authority of the Name of Jesus and that you have a legal right to use it, and the adversary lays siege to you, you will not be filled with fear. You will simply laugh at him and say, “Satan, did you know you were whipped? Leave my body.” He will leave. God made Him sick with our sickness. He was afflicted with our diseases.
As to our sins, “He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.” He dealt with man’s body, and with his soul, and spirit. He laid our iniquities and our diseases upon Jesus. He was stricken, smitten, and afflicted with our diseases and with our sins.
“Him, Who knew no sin, He made to be sin on our behalf; that we might become the Righteousness of God in Him.” II Corinthians 5:21
He has already healed you.
In the Mind of the Father, you are healed. Jesus knows that He bore your diseases. How it must hurt Him to hear you talk about bearing them yourself. Learn to say: “I am healed because He did that work and satisfied the Supreme Court of the Universe.” That makes you free.
Sin shall not lord it over you because you are a New Creation. When were you healed? When Jesus defeated Satan and stripped him of his authority and arose you were healed. The promises that cover your case are of no value until you act upon them. Believing is acting upon the Word.
Our purpose in writing this was that people might see their deliverance in Christ from oppression and sickness, that they might see their complete redemption already purchased for them. We feel that if they were to read of the physical manifestations in others’ lives, they would unconsciously look to the other person’s healing and not see their own deliverance already accomplished. We want you to look to the Word for your healing.

A Prayer Against Disease
Lord, your scripture says that you heal all diseases and whoever believes in you will not perish but have an everlasting life. Strengthen me, Lord, in this time of illness. Sustain him as he lays sick in his bed. When you were on Earth, you did all things good and healed all kinds of sickness.
You healed those who had diseases. You died and rose for our sins and that we may have eternal life, Lord. I believe in my heart that you are here with us today and that with your most holy power will remove all sicknesses and evils that roam the earth. Let it be done in your glory, Lord.
We praise and glorify your name, Amen.

A great portion of Christ’s time was dedicated to healing the sick. He healed all kinds of people: the blind, the paralyzed, the lame, the deaf, lepers, those who had fevers, and many with chronic illnesses.
“Jesus Is Still the Healer”
We find no record in the gospels of Jesus turning away anyone who came to him for healing, nor do we find that any disease was too difficult for him to heal. He even raised the dead. Miraculous healings still occur today—evidence that Christ is still our Healer.
The Purpose of Divine Healing is to Glorify Jesus. In the Book of Acts, we find three important truths we need to grasp: Jesus is still the Healer, Healing comes from Jesus alone, and the purpose of divine healing is always to glorify Him.
As a pastor, I was called to meet a couple at a hospital. Their daughter had suffered a seizure and was not breathing. When I reached the hospital, neither the parents nor the doctor were with the child. A nurse was unplugging the flat-lined machines.
The Holy Spirit prompted me to do something I’d never done before — pray over the girl’s lifeless body. I asked the nurse if I could pray for a minute, to which she replied, “You know she’s dead,” but allowed me to go ahead.
I asked God to restore the little girl. Then I went to next room and found the parents witnessing to the doctor. About a minute later, we heard a scream, then the little girl crying for her mommy. It’s never happened to me before or since. But Jesus is still healer.
Why did Jesus Heal so Many People?
- To get attention: Jesus knew that by meeting a physical need, healing, the door would be open to speak about Jesus’ greater mission—to bring salvation to souls. We see the same pattern throughout Jesus’ ministry. Whenever Jesus made an intangible claim, He backed it up with a tangible act of compassion. Jesus said He was the bread of life and fed 5,000 people with a few loaves of bread.
- To prove He could forgive sin: How do you prove such an intangible thing? First, Jesus lived in a culture where the assumption was that sickness was a result of sin. Second, based on the same assumption, healing comes with forgiveness of sin. To prove that He had the power to forgive sins, Jesus said to the man who was lowered down through roof on a mat, “Friend, your sins are forgiven…take your mat and go home” (Luke 5:20).
- To prove He was God: Jesus healed to prove He was the Messiah. Only One has authority to forgive sin—God alone—a charge the Pharisees made when Jesus healed sickness and at the same time forgave sins. He was claiming authority to be God.
- To show His compassion: Jesus healed because he cared. There is no record of Jesus turning anyone away who asked for his help.
- To show that He is the Lord of all of life: Jesus is the Lord of compassion—not just Lord of our souls but of our bodies as well.
- To show that salvation starts now: Jesus’ wonderful, compassionate willingness to reach out and touch our physical needs demonstrates that it’s not just future tense but present tense. Salvation starts now. He heals in this life, in this moment, in anticipation of something much more complete as eternity rolls on.
The Healings Did Not End With Jesus
- He Said They Would Continue: Healings did not end with Jesus. He told his disciples they would do greater things. Although there is some dispute as to the validity of the end of Mark’s gospel (Mark 16:18), it is clear in the Book of John that Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I am doing. He will do even greater things than these” (John 14:12).
- The Apostles Continued His Work: Nothing in the New Testament says or even implies that the healing ministry would stop at end of the New Testament. In fact, it says the opposite. Healing ministry will continue in age of the Church through His Body, the Church. The apostles continued his work.
- Jesus Is Still The Healer! Jesus is still the healer today. Why don’t we see it as the disciples in the Early Church did? They were full of the Holy Spirit. We leak. They were fully obedient. Too often, we are not. They fully expected to see Him work. We are often surprised that He does.
The Power Comes From Jesus
- Not From Our Faith: The power comes from Jesus. The power doesn’t come from faith. There is interaction with faith. Jesus challenged people to have faith. He even said, “Your faith has made you whole.” But faith was a response to the person of Jesus. It was power of Jesus and not individual faith that brought healing. If you believe the power comes from faith, there’s a problem. Faith is a necessary component but not what heals.
- Not From Within: Healing does not come from within us. It is not a matter of getting everything in balance. A great, satanic error of our day teaches that healing flows from inner peace or balance, some resource inside us, even if God put it in us. That simply is not true. Healing comes only from the hand of Jesus.
- Not From Faith Healers: Healing does not come from faith healers. There are gifts of healing. God uses prayer to raise up people who need a touch by Him. But the power is in Jesus, which means, if you need a touch from the Lord, you don’t need to look to a faith healer.
- Not From Crystal Skulls: Healing does not come from any occult objects, such as crystal skulls.
Why Isn’t Everyone Healed?
Why do people get sick in the first place? The Bible gives a theology of sickness as well as a theology of healing. There are a number of reasons for sickness. The first is sin. The Pharisees were right that some get sick because of sin but wrong that all get sick because of sin. In 1 Corinthians, we are warned about abusing the table of the Lord. “That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you sleep.”
Sometimes God allows the enemy to make us sick. Sickness definitely is related to the curse, the fall, and the work of Satan. There is no better example than Job. In the testing, our faithfulness can be perfect. God allows sickness or disabilities to teach us lessons that would not be learned any other.
Healing also can be God’s way of taking us home, the moment of eschatological healing that ultimately comes when we are made perfect. No more glasses, no more insulin pumps. I won’t walk with a limp.
How Do We Respond?
Our prayers for healing tend to be, “Jesus heal me because I want to serve you more, I don’t want pain, or I want to be a testimony of your faithfulness. See how much more faith I have now.”
The only possible right response is: “What ever brings You glory, Lord. I believe you can. With the absence of a firm word to the contrary, then I believe that you will. But the only reason I want to be healed is because I want to bring You glory. If something else brings You more glory, that’s ok with me. It’s not about me. It’s all about Jesus.”
“In The Name Of Jesus Christ Of Nazareth, Walk!”
The power comes from Jesus. The purpose is to bring glory to Jesus. It is not to meet my needs, to make me feel better, or relieve me of my pain, although that is a nice side benefit.
The disciples with Jesus encountered a blind man (John 9). One of the disciples asked, “Who sinned—the man or his parents.” Jesus explained that neither the man nor His parents had sinned but “this had happened so that the work of God would be displayed in his life.”
Healing is all about glorifying Jesus. It’s not about us. It’s all about Him!

There is no doubt that the Bible is filled with accounts of Jesus’ healing miracles. When we look at the healing ministry of Jesus, we recognize the vital connection we have with it – We are His body on earth today. If you look at any of Jesus’ healing miracles, it will reveal facts about how He healed and whom He healed. Jesus did this by the Word and through the faith of those who desired His healing including the sick, those who had demons and those who were desperate and persistent. There are many questions that come up related to the ministries of healing. These questions often include does God heal everyone, why are some people not healed and whose faith is necessary for healing? While we don’t have all the answers, Scripture tells us to turn to prayer.
The Bible says, “Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord” (James 5:14). We also know from Scripture that we can find healing through speaking the Word to our sickness. The Bible tells us, “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says” (Mark 11:23). It’s important that we note carefully from the previous verse that we must say clearly his need. This word must be spoken confidently. If you or someone you know if facing a difficult illness or disease, it can be hard to know where to turn. Many of us want to cry out to God, but don’t know exactly what to pray. If you feel alone or afraid about the future and want to unleash God’s healing power in your life, lift up these prayers for healing:
Prayer for a Sick Person
During His earthly ministry, Jesus said many prayers for healing, miraculously causing the sick to recover. Today, Jesus continues to pour out His healing balm. Is there someone who needs God’s healing touch? Do you wish to say a prayer for a sick friend or family member? We can lift these concerns up to the Great Physician, the Lord Jesus Christ. If you or someone you know is sick, turn to this prayer:
Dear Jesus, Divine Physician and Healer of the Sick, I turn to You in this time of illness. Dearest Comforter of the troubled, alleviate our worry and sorrow with Your gentle love, and grant us the grace and strength to accept this burden. We place our worries in Your hands. We ask that You restore Your servant to health again. Above all, grant us the grace to acknowledge Your holy will and know that whatever You do, You do for the love of us. Amen.
Prayer of Surrender
Surrendering your life to God means following His lead without knowing where He’s sending you. You know you’ve surrendered to God when you rely on Him to work things out instead of trying to manipulate others, force your agenda or control a situation. It’s important that you let go and let God work. You don’t always have to be in charge or in control. Instead of trying harder, you trust more. If you are looking to surrender your life now to God, turn to this prayer:
Dear Lord, it is my will to surrender to you everything that I am and everything that I’m striving to be. I open the deepest recesses of my heart and invite Your Holy Spirit to dwell inside of me. I offer you my life, heart, mind, body, soul and spirit. I surrender to you my past, present and future problems. I ask You to take hold over every aspect of my life. I surrender to You all my hurt, pain, worry, doubt, fear and anxiety, and I ask You to wash me clean. I release everything into Your compassionate care. Please speak to me clearly, Lord. Open my ears to hear Your voice. Open my heart to commune with You more deeply. I want to feel Your loving embrace. Open the doors that need to be opened and close the doors that need to be closed. Please set my feet upon the straight and narrow road that leads to everlasting life. Amen.
Prayer to Renew Mind, Body and Spirit
What is the first thing you think of when you wake up in the morning as you go about your day? Every moment of every day you have the freedom to think about whatever you want. What you think about is the most important factor in how you feel and what you say and do. Your thinking determines the person you become. Real, lasting change is always an inside our process that begins with our mind, goes down into our heart and body and then goes outward into our behavior and relationships. If you are looking for your mind, body and spirit to be renewed, turn to this prayer:
Dear Lord, I come before You today in need of Your healing hand. In You all things are possible. Hold my heart within Yours, and renew my mind, body and soul. I am lost, but I come to You with grace. You gave us life, and You also give us the gift of infinite joy. Give me the strength to move forward on the path you’ve laid out for me. Guide me towards better health and give me the wisdom to identify those you’ve placed around me to help me get better. Amen.
