How to pray for guidance

Throughout Scripture we are reminded of God’s direction over our lives. He is our good Shepherd who leads us and He desires that we follow the path that leads to joy and contentment.  When we pray for God’s guidance and for discernment through the Holy Spirit, we can rest assured that God will provide wisdom! We do not have to worry about our next step or about tomorrow because we know who guides our way! Do not rush your day without going before God to seek guidance!

A Short Prayer for Guidance

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your guidance. Forgive me for getting ahead of Your plans, and help me know when to stop and listen for Your direction. Your ways are perfect, Lord. Thank You for offering gentle grace. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer for Guidance from the Holy Spirit

Lord, I pray you would move the Spirit more boldly in my life. I know that any sin can grieve and diminish the voice of the Spirit, and I pray against the temptation to sin. Help me crave your presence more than I crave sin. Help me grow in the fruit of the Spirit and so walk closer with Yourself. I pray for guidance from your Spirit- let your will and promises always be a meditation of my heart. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

A Prayer for Guidance When Life is Challenging

Lord, I’m here today with open hands and an open heart, ready to depend on you to help me through the day and all it will bring my way. Help me be like Nehemiah, help me come to you for guidance, strength, provision and protection. As I face tough choices and hard situations, help me remember my belovedness, help me remember that I am Your child and Your representative to the world around me. Help me live today in a way that brings honor to Your holy name. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer for Guidance in the Day Ahead

Good morning, Lord! Today’s a new day, a chance for a new start. Yesterday is gone and with it any regrets, mistakes, or failures I may have experienced. It’s a good day to be glad and give thanks, and I do, Lord. Thank you for today, a new opportunity to love, give, and be all that you want me to be.

Today I want to start the day with you on my mind and in my heart. As I dress, let me wear the armor you’ve provided daily: the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, the belt of truth, the shoes of peace, and the sword of the spirit—with prayer on my tongue: praise for you and petitions for those around me and those I meet.

Feed me today with your daily bread. As the Bread of Life, your food, like manna, will sustain me throughout any trials and hungers. Help me to set my thoughts on things above and to speak only what will help and encourage others. Keep me from putting my foot in my mouth, and help me guard the affections of my heart today, Lord. Make whatever work I do be marked with excellence rather than perfectionism, as I seek not to make a name, but to make a difference. Help me to treat each person I encounter as you would, with respect and love, forgiving others and asking for forgiveness myself when needed.

As I start this day, help me remember that I belong to you, and my desire is to act accordingly. Keep my feet from stumbling and my mind from wandering into distractions that could steal precious time and energy from the most important things you have designed for me. I’m proud to be your child, Lord. And I’m so grateful that you died for me—rising again on your own new morning—so that every day could be filled with the wonder of your love, the freedom of your Spirit, and the joy of knowing you.

I know earthly life is short and fleeting, Lord. But I want to live today as if it were the first or the last day of my life, giving thanks for every good and perfect gift you choose to give. Today, and every day, I want to live my life for you, Jesus. In your precious name, Amen.

A Prayer for Discernment and Wisdom When You Need God’s Direction

Lord, thank You for the people You have divinely placed in my life who speak holy truth, love and words of wisdom. Give me a heart of discernment to know when You are using someone to speak instruction into my heart and my circumstances, and give me the strength and courage to follow through with that advice, even when it’s hard. Fill me with peace in knowing that even if I take a wrong turn, Your purpose will prevail. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

how to pray for guidance

Prayer for Guidance

With your thoughts on the Divine… breathe into the infinite love behind all life.

Breathe easily and allow your body to rest from all tension, stress or strain.

Let yourself be open to the Christ Spirit within….where the still small voice invites you to immerse yourself in the calm peace of your soul.

BELIEVE that…Prayer can positively transform your life in incredible ways.

Realize a simple prayer from your heart can open you to Divine Guidance.

Surrender any decision you feel you so urgently need to make to the all-knowing mind of the Christ Spirit.

Give your imagination a rest and let yourself be guided.

Spiritual guidance is not hard, fearful or complicated. It is simple, peaceful and true.

As Spirit moves in and through you, feel reassured that you are on your right and perfect path.

Let prayer strengthen your faith and trust in the love that God is…in the love God has for you.

The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything. John 14:26

There is no special formula on how to pray for guidance. We all have the ability to reach out for help here on earth and during out spiritual lives. We can trust that God will guide, warn and love us even in dire circumstances.

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.” Yes, lean and trust Him.

He can be depended on as we are called into companionship and participation with His son Jesus Christ. We are partners and joint heirs with the King of Kings.

This truth is something to get excited about today. Ask God to show up and He will. He might show you through the Word, your heart, or through prayer time. There are no limits—we tend to stick Him in a box. That is not His style sometimes. Maybe you feel that you can’t pray. You might be burned out, or depressed.

Psalm 73:23-24 shared that “Nevertheless I am continually with You–You have taken hold of my right hand. With Your counsel. You will guide me, and afterward receive me to glory.”

Don’t know where to begin?

Here are six tips on what you can do when looking to prayer for guidance, trust and hope, too.

1. Ask for wisdom and help.  We tend to be prideful and want to make it on our own, does not always works out. Ask.

“Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

2. Be honest as we are all diamonds in the rough. Learning to trust God totally is a lifetime. Don’t be discouraged if you feel odd, or can’t find the words. They don’t need to be pretty. David poured his heart  to the Lord, freely. He didn’t worry about his words or perfection.

3. Choose to believe He will hear you. Say “I trust You God” to guide me and show me where you want me to go.

4. Walk me through each step. Write all your prayers requests down and pray over it. Date it when he answered. Overtime you will see how God worked through it. This will build your confidence and strengthen your walk.

5. Psalms 143: “Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God; Let Your good Spirit lead me on level ground.” Ask Him to teach you or what He wants you to learn.

6. Praise Him. Praise God and be thankful. You don’t need to be in church to do this. It can be in your car, a room, or wherever you are. Worship, worship, and praise Him. Enter the gates with praise. God moves and revels himself through praise.

Isaiah 48:17-18 said that the Lord teaches us for “I am the LORD your God, who teaches you to profit, Who leads you in the way you should go.”If only you had paid attention to My commandments! Then your well-being would have been like a river, And your righteousness like the waves of the sea.”

how to pray for guidance

“When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?” —Psalms 11:3

I believe our nation is in trouble today, probably more than I’ve seen in my lifetime. We are contending with issues that are causing the very foundation of our country to crumble. Our moral and spiritual roots are eroding, the economy is misleading, family life is disintegrating, and political forces are at unprecedented odds. There seem to be very few leaders who will take a stand for God and for His Word.

It can be tempting to believe that America has reached a point of no return. While these factors cause despair, we are reminded in Scripture that with God, nothing is impossible. No problem is too great for Him. Seasons of distress and uncertainty and hardship call for faithful, fervent prayer by God’s people and remind us of our responsibility to humble ourselves before Almighty God. We cannot expect healing to come to our nation apart from obedience to God through His Holy Word.

God longs for His people to humble themselves and to seek forgiveness and pray for guidance. God’s Word says, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” (Psalm 33:12). The Bible commands that we repent of our sins and turn to Almighty God. And because we are confident that we serve a God of mercy and compassion, we know that He stands ready to respond to our cries out of the abundance of His divine wisdom.

It is a crucial time for us to individually and collectively seek God’s divine intervention for the challenges facing us. We need to pray not only for our nation, but we need to pray for our leaders, for all those who govern us, that they will turn to God with humble hearts and follow Him. Our military leaders need our prayers as we have dedicated men and women serving on battlefields and sacrificing their blood to protect our nation and many innocent people around the world. God is faithful to bless those who turn to Him.

Pray that as a nation we would return to God. As we call on God, let us do so by genuine faith, believing that He hears our prayers. God can heal this great land, for which our forefathers fought and died. We need spiritual renewal, we need a revival in America, and we need each and everyone to pray.
