Holy Mother of God and of the Church,
our Lady of Guadalupe,
you were chosen by the Father for the Son through the Holy Spirit.
You are the Woman clothed with the sun
who labors to give birth to Christ while Satan,
the Red Dragon,
waits to voraciously devour your child.
So too did Herod seek to destroy your Son,
Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,
and massacred many innocent children in the process.
So today does abortion killing many innocent unborn children
and exploiting many mothers
in its attack upon human life and upon the Church,
the Body of Christ.
Mother of the Innocents,
we praise God in you for His gifts to you
of your Immaculate Conception,
your freedom from actual sin;
your fullness of grace,
your Motherhood of God and the Church,
your Perpetual Virginity
and your Assumption in body and soul into heaven.
O Help of Christians,
we beg you to protect all mothers of the unborn
and the children within their wombs.
We plead with you for your help to end the holocaust of abortion.
Melt hearts so that life may be revered!
Holy Mother, we pray to your Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart
for all mothers and all unborn children
that they may have life here on earth
and by the most Precious Blood shed by your Son
that they may have eternal life with Him in heaven.
We also pray to your Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart
for all abortionists and all abortion supporters
that they may be converted and accept your Son, Jesus Christ,
as their Lord and Savior.
Defend all of your children in the battle against Satan
and all of the evil spirits in this present darkness.
We desire that the innocent unborn children
who die without Baptism should be baptized and saved.
We ask that you obtain this grace for them and repentance,
reconciliation and pardon from God for their parents and their killers.
Let there be revealed, once more,
in the history of the world the infinite power of merciful love.
May it put an end to evil.
May it transform consciences.
May your Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart
reveal for all the light of hope.
May Christ the King reign over us,
our families, cities, states,
nations and the whole of humanity.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary,
hear our pleas and accept this cry from our hearts!
Our Lady of Guadalupe,
Protectress of the Unborn,
Pray for us!
we come today to this place dedicated to the memory of those precious unborn babies whose lives were cut short because our nation failed to recognize their value and to protect them.
We thank you for the beautiful words Our Lord Jesus spoke in His Sermon on the Mount: “Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” And so we do mourn the loss of so many unborn lives. And yet we find comfort in your love and compassion and in our conviction that Jesus loves the little children.
We pray that these victims of society’s callous policy of expediency are now safe in your loving arms, and that they know that we love them, and mourn that they never had the opportunity to show the world who they are.
Lord, we know that at this very moment, in abortion clinics all over America, precious unborn babies are in danger of a horrendous death. We pray in fervent hope that someone will intercede for these little ones to spare their lives. But in the event their mothers choose abortion, we pray that you, as Father of all, will take these little ones to your bosom.
Lord, we pray for our nation, that with Your grace and the tireless work of those of us who value each and every human life, the United States will reject abortion and become a county that appreciates and welcomes every child, no matter the circumstances of his conception.
We pray for the mothers of these babies buried here that they come to recognize the tragedy of the choices they made and to turn to you for forgiveness and healing.
We pray for the fathers of these babies that they mourn the loss of their fatherhood and the duty they had to protect their children, and that they turn to you and ask for forgiveness for their failure.
We pray for the doctors, nurses and clinic staff involved in the death of these babies, that they turn away from the abortion industry and open their hearts to learn compassion for the innocent unborn victims of abortion.
On this day, Lord, more than forty years after the sad day that Roe v. Wade legalized the killing of unborn babies, we ask You to give us renewed energy and hope that our nation will once again know a day when all life is sacred and protected in law.
We ask all these things in the name of your Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
This prayer was written by Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director Priests for Life.
Lord God, I thank you today for the gift of my life,
And for the lives of all my brothers and sisters.
I know there is nothing that destroys more life than abortion,
Yet I rejoice that you have conquered death by the Resurrection of Your Son.
I am ready to do my part in ending abortion.
Today I commit myself
Never to be silent,
Never to be passive,
Never to be forgetful of the unborn.
I commit myself to be active in the pro-life movement,
And never to stop defending life
Until all my brothers and sisters are protected,
And our nation once again becomes
A nation with liberty and justice
Not just for some, but for all,
Through Christ our Lord. Amen!

On Saturday, September 14, 2019, Citizens for a Pro-Life Society, Priests for Life and the Pro-Life Action League will co-sponsor the 6th annual National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children, calling on pro-life Americans to honor the gravesites of our aborted brothers and sisters.
Solemn prayer vigils will be conducted at these gravesites, of which there are 52 across the United States, as well as at dozens of other sites dedicated in memory of aborted children.
Day of Rememberance 2018
The 6th annual National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children was held on September 8, 2018 at 187 locations throughout the United States, with over 6,000 in attendance. Click here to see photos from some of the 2018 memorial services around the country!
Why Visit the Gravesites of the Aborted Unborn?
When people become truly aware of the reality of abortion, they can more easily cut through the lies by which some try to justify it, and the natural apathy to which human nature is inclined. Even pro-life people are thrust into a higher level of commitment and activism.
Touching this reality happens in various ways: hearing a vivid description of the procedure, seeing diagrams of it or images of aborted children, hearing a woman’s personal testimony of regret over her abortion.
This impact, whereby abortion no longer remains an abstraction, can be brought to an even more profound level when experienced during an event, such as the funeral for an aborted baby.
Tens of thousands of these children have been retrieved and buried at gravesites across our country. The stories of how they were killed, how they were found, and how they were buried, along with the pictures and videos that document those events, are powerful tools to awaken the consciences of our fellow citizens.
But while a funeral and burial for an aborted baby may be a relatively rare event, the opportunity to visit the burial places and recall how those children got there does not have to be rare—in fact, it shouldn’t be.
Pro-lifers should be visiting these gravesites—and other memorial sites dedicated to aborted babies—as a regular part of their pro-life witness. That’s what the National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children is all about.
An Annual Event—and More
The first National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children was held in September 2013 on the 25th anniversay of the solemn burial of the earthly remains of some 1,500 abortion victims in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Over 100 memorial services were held across the United States, and it was clear this should become an annual event.
The Day of Remembrance is normally held on the second Saturday in September. Dates for upcoming Days of Remembrance are as follows:
- September 14, 2019
- September 12, 2020
- September 18, 2021
- September 10, 2022
- September 9, 2023
Pictures and videos from past Day of Remembrance memorial services can be found on the National Day of Remembrance Facebook page.
Pro-lifers are also encouraged to carry on the spiritual mission of the Day of Remembrance througout the year by visiting a gravesite of aborted children or other memorial site to offer prayers of mourning for the victims of abortion. Find the site nearest you here.
During your visit, you may wish to pray one of the following prayers prepared for the National Day of Remembrance:
- Prayer at a Gravesite or Memorial Site
- Prayer of Mourning for Victims of Abortion
- Prayer for Those who Have Lost a Child to Abortion
By participating in the National Day of Remembrance, visiting these solemn memorial places at other times of the year, and spreading the word about this prayer campaign, you are helping to humanize our aborted brothers and sisters and deepening your own commitment to ending the injustice of abortion.
