Here is a prayer for all grandmothers’ children and grandchildren, big or small, wherever they may be:
O’ Lord watch over my children
help them to grow each day in grace
guide their steps in every direction
so they will master whatever they face
Lord feed them when they hunger
and supply their every need
let them know that you are there
to help them to succeed
Lord help them to seek for wisdom
so it will help them in life to cope
when things become too hard to bear
it will give them a little more hope
Now Lord seal this prayer in Heaven
let it follow them wherever they go
for I desire the best for them
and behold the seeds, that they will sow
also this prayer goes out for others
for their children you will also keep
and allow them to grow under your safety
while we at times are sleep

A Grandmother’s Prayer Submitted By: Ladybeth. Oh Lord, I do not ask for much, Eternal beauty, or youth, or such. Just give me a little hand to hold, And I’ll forget that I’m growing old. I do not ask for cloudless skies, A life that’s free from tears and sighs. Just give me a little face to kiss, And anxious moments will turn to bliss.
This poem describes a loving grandmother’s relationship with her grandchildren. It expresses the fact that when we get older, we don’t have grand plans and schemes. We tend to focus on small things that give us joy. The grandmother rejoices over the fact that being with little children makes us feel young. They sort of rub off on you.

Because grandmothers are such a source of joy for their grandchildren, they are always sorely missed when they pass away. To lose a grandmother is to lose a most valuable family member. Many grandchildren find a peace and solace after the loss of their grandmother by expressing their feelings through poetry.

Dear God, my heart aches because I feel my grand-daughters’ pain. My family has been torn before, but never like this. God please bring my babies back home. We miss them so very much. I know you have all power and I pray this is your will. I surrender it all over to you for I have no power, but I do have faith in you, Lord God.
You know my struggles and my heart and you said in your word, that we have not because we ask not. Well, God I’m asking with all of my heart and my soul that you please bring my babies back home. Our family has not been whole since their mother took them away, and I was so very angry and hurt that I hated her for that.
But I know your word and I have been seeking you so that I may have the strength to forgive her. At this very moment I’m searching my heart and honestly I don’t know if I have fully forgiven her or not, but I’m willing to take up this cross and follow you. So God please help me to forgive her, in Jesus name. Shandice, I forgive you for taking my grand-babies away, I hope it was for unselfish reasons.
I pray that you can overcome any obstacles in your path and find love you those who misuse you. God please help Shandice to find peace. I love my Grand-babies Christian and Kirsten more than words can express, and they are constantly on my mind and in my heart. Please Lord, help my son Christopher, be moved on this Wednesday to have the strength to stand up and speak up for his daughters because I know he loves them dearly.
God please grant my family this blessing that we my be whole again and free to love again. God I just want to feel whole again in Jesus name. Amen.
Return to 7 Daily Prayers to Get You Through The Week
Prayer is one topic I love to share about, as I feel it’s such an important part of our walk with the Lord. This week’s post, from Bettie and Sean, was about the power of a grandmother’s prayer. I was so moved by God’s faithfulness to this family through their grandmother’s prayers.
It was such a blessing to read through this family’s story, to hear of the urgency with which this grandmother prayed for her family. This post was also a blessing in that it shared the perspective of three generations. How precious to read of the grandmother, but also to hear the mother and son share how the grandmother’s prayers blessed them. It’s amazing to see how God worked in this family over the years, particularly due to the grandmother’s prayers.
This is why it’s so important to be praying – for our children, for our families, for God to work in our lives!
